I keep hearing this... I'm not exactly understanding it. If you are talking about MMORPG's in general then you are way off. Just load up Asheron's Call 1 and see. You can play that game for days with no problems at all. I have a buff-bot running on that game that only goes down when I have a power outage or they take the server down for a monthly update. They also have a TOP-NOTCH customer service site and forums. You can ask questions and actually get answers in a timely fashion. However, if you are talking about SPACE based MMORPG's then you are correct but that's not exactly saying much since there are only really two of those on the market right now. Being the best out of two when neither is even remotely stable is not exactly a good thing... |

Edited by: Swift on 02/07/2004 23:48:04 I understand your point.. but EVE only turned one years old a short while ago. Asherons Call is now quite a few years old, has a skeleton player base and thus really very little is going on. Thus its hardly difficult for its customer service to handle the few people online and the very little changes occuring in the game. Do you remember Turbine and AC during its first years? I think many others players do.. teehee...
Everquest on release - players couldnt actually log on, and there were no quests. This lasted for well well over a year in terms of instability and gameplay.
Asheroncs Call - huge issues with exploits and hacks that plagues the game all tis life and Turbine getting a huge hit for not taking an aggressive stance.
Anarchy Online - the worst mmporg release on history, costing it huge amounts of income from lost players....
Star Wars Galaxies - one of the buggiest games in existence with completely broken classes still and server issues worse than this one popping up.
This list goes on and on.. and EVE really stands up ahead of every single one *except* the recent City of Heroes which has had a super smooth release and seems to be sliding along like butter. However it is a far far simpler game and simplicity often goes hand in hand with less problems when the load on the tech isnt quite as heavy.
No it doesnt matter really.. people will complain and I understand that. My only regret is that I posted here when I knew that it wouldnt change a thing. But human nature is human nature -----

I can live with these bugs NO problem, im VERY patient, hell I have faith in CCP to get them fixed, but when you lose a month times worth of investments because of some instability issue with the GAME, and ccp isnt going to replace it, or ANY of it, its a very very sad painful thing, and this is what I think is ****ing off the people for the most part... I just want my stuff back when I lose it due to CCP's instable game... or at least some of it...

FACT: Eve runs a hell of alot better that most MMORPG... so its going through a rough patch.. live with it or leave. There is no use in flaming etc.
They are trying to make the game better.. upgrading the clusters like ccp's servers takes alot of work.. . little things go wrong...
Just wait.. grow up.. and live with it. ---------------------------

I get more to feeling that its the older players that keep EVE alive. All I c from the new players is consumer-whines and "I leave" threads.
/emote whishes these ppl would put action where their mouths are

whiners: go out and get some sun. The rest of the playerbase are tired of hearing about how your 14.95 monthly fee should get you a free BJ and a supersized french fry. Course, I know 14.95 is alot to you farkin 8 year olds who only get a 20 dollar a week allowance from mum and dad; and, it must really burn deep inside knowing you could've bought the new teenage mutant ninja doll (w/kung fu grip even) and been the envy of all your neigborhood sex trophy friends. But, thats really too bad. Here is a hanky.
I mean really, the servers ARE a problem. And the devs seem to be taking it seriously. Is it really worth repeteadly coming to the forum to jump up and down and throw a temper tantrum? STFU already.
I'm so unlucky that if I was to fall into a barrel of nipples I'd come out sucking my thumb. |

Heh, i see people screaming "omg fix it now blah blah blah" followed by others yelling "take your time with patches and fixes so there arent many bugs".

Sure Eve isn't perfect, but it's looking quite good compared to other MMORPG. Anyone who think CCP are 'amateurs' should check how the 'professionals' are doing like SoE.

Skeleton player base? I just did a quick check at www.treestats.com and there are 6233 people playing AC1 right now. According to the EVE login screen thre are 6130 people playing EVE at this very moment. Pretty evenly matched if you ask me. Sure AC1 is spread over multiple servers but that's not the issue. Whether it's 1 server or 8, if you can't play, you can't play. Oh and I very much remember AC1's launch. I was there. I guess it spoiled me into thinking MMORPG's should be stable since it was probably the smoothest opening of a MMORPG in recorded history. I had no problems at all and the only time I remember the servers coming down was after the admins giving ample warning in game and then applying actual "hot-fixes" that fixed problems. If by hacks and exploits you mean Decal then I have to laugh. Decal isn't that big of a deal and the devs have even incorporated many of Decal's plugins into the client itself. Not to mention hiring some of the plugin authors as members of the Turbine team. They know a good thing when they see it and aren't afraid to listen to the player base. Anyway, sorry about all that. I realize it wasn't exactly EVE related but it is within the context of this thread which basically boils down to: "Other companies are getting it right. What's up CCP?" Also, each month Turbine adds new content. I'm not sure where you got the "very little changes occuring in the game" thing. You must be thinking of Turbine's mangled AC2 which was and still is a total disaster with probably the smallest playerbase of an MMORPG I've ever seen. I remember logging in once to see a whopping 50 people online.
All in all I'm just frustrated that CCP thinks content is God when it can't even be enjoyed due to bugs they won't fix. Why won't they fix them? Because they are to busy making new content. It's a sick cycle devs with this mindset rarely snap out of and it's discouraging. |

Quote: Sony MMPORG (the two leading US mmporgs - EQ and Star Wars Galaxies) to see stabilty and bugs, and then youll gain some sort of perspective.
I love the way Sony has put such a low standard on quality control for MMORPG's... allows all companys to now put out sub standard products while allowing a few to go "But it's better than <insert Sony Product Here>"
Whine? Naa, don't really care, don't have time to play for the next month anyway, but it is funny to see those that don't care about what they get for their money flame against those that do. The new world simply doesn't care about quality... as long as it's high speed.
This post soon to be followed by a "END YOURSELF" or "You should just quit" post by the same folks that don't care about what they get for their money, because they do not understand how others tie themselves to their time & money investment into specific MMORPG's. |

i never complain about lag in an MMORPG that devs are trying to fix. I understand that they are trying their best and if it can't be fixed quickly, it can't be fixed.. Especially since CCP let us know they are aware of the issue..
but i am getting frustrated. I've been busy with real life so I have no time to play anyways. I can understand how angry people are getting over this.
I think what ****es me off most is the fact that people are working on fixing the server instead of other stupid issues with the last patch (balance). This just delays upcomming updates even further.. ugh
oh well. gonna go watch a movie. hopefully this time next week (when im less busy) the game will be fixed ________

I would like to add that eve is pretty damn stable compared to other MMORPGs. I've never played an MMORPG that was able to release a large patch and have it working within a week.
Still no excuse, but I wanted to make that clear. ________
