In conclusion I voted for McCain this morning on my way to work at about 7:15am EST, not because I agree with even half of his policies but because I would like to keep the money I'm earning and not have Big Brother take my dollar and give it to trailer trash drug dealers (be they black or white--it doesn't matter) who are too lazy to do honest work.
I went and voted for Obama at 6pm EST, because I want your tax dollars to go to support drug dealers who are too lazy to do honest work.
Also, according to Ms. Pollworker lady, they've seen 80% voter turnout in my small town today, so I am quite happy either way
Originally by: Captain Hudson Dont you have to be born on American soil to run for president?
if so how come Mccain can run seeing as he was born on a naval base in Panama.
It still counts as America, for such purposes. |

No, if you are born on US soil you're a citizen reguardless of your parents. They could be illegal immigrants, doesn't matter. You're born on US soil and you are a citizen.
If you're born not on US soil however you can still be a citizen provided that one of your parents is an American of legal age.
Problem with Obama is his mother was 1 year shy of legal age when she had him. If he was on US soil (Hawaii) he's a citizen, so he should release the vault original long version thingy of his birth certificate. What he has released is not the vault copy with all the info, but a public copy that could be easily faked, and in fact the one he has released looks strikingly similar to his half-sisters birth certificate. Multiple forgery experts say it is probably forged. As stated previously some of his family members claim to have been witness to his birth in Kenya (not US soil).
Now, this citizenship thing is admittedly a technicality and not the reason I didn't vote for him. My beef with him was him being very actively involved in Socialist circles and being a devout follower of Islam right up until he went into politics, when he did a Heel Face Turn and went Democrat and decided to be a Christian. He's spent his entire political career working towards the presidency at the expense of his performance as a Senator.
Oh, and until he decided to go to college he didn't even live in the US, he spent most his life in Indonesia going to schools that only allow Indonesian citizens. He was legally adopted by a stepfather in Indonesia to attend. Guess what, Indonesia doesn't allow dual citizenship. It has been claimed however that the school documents listing him as a citizen were forged to allow him to attend the schools, whatever not too important a point. Like I said before, citizenship--a technicality.
So we have a guy that grew up in an Islamic country in the Islamic culture is genetically half white half arab who spent the first 20-30 years of life as an active communist/socialist. Now he claims to be a black democrat christian american. Okay, so far just wierd, I can deal.
Wait, he wants to distribute all wealth evenly taking the work smart rich peoples money to knock them back to work hard middle class, and give it to poor people with no jobs or work ethic to bump them up to middle class. Gov't gets any money left over to put towards socialized programs that can dictate what you can and can't put into your own body, cause after all if you break your body with too little excersize, bad diet, and illegal drugs and make society pay for you you're a burden on society. Now you're having your personal freedoms revoked and money you rightfully earned taken from you. Yeah, socialism, who didn't see that coming? Oh yeah, all the boneheads that think a black president would be novel, never mind the details like for instance that HE'S NOT BLACK.
You know what, screeeew that. I want to smoke, I want to do drugs, I want to have unprotected sex and I want to spend my money from my full time job that I had to get a degree to even apply to without the government taking it away! I don't care much for this McCain fellow but he's like a punch-to-the-face compared to bullet-in-the-head Obama. -- Distortion| Distortion 2 Preview |

US Military bases and embassies are considered American soil. Arnie, is from Austria.
McCain did lose a few planes, one to power lines, heh, one to a flame-out, one to a missile that someone else accidentally set off on the carrier deck, and one to a SAM. Most of his military combat record comes from Operation Rolling Thunder.

He was born on Non-US soil and had no American parents of legal age.
I agree, it's a stupid technicality. I brought it up because nobody seems to even know the issue exists. Seems nobody bothered to check who the heck this Barry guy is and where he came from.
Barack: Hey guys, I wanna run for President. US: So? Barack: I'm blaaaaack! US: Really! Cool, you've got my vote. Anybody who doesn't vote for you is a racist!

These based on exit polls, or actual ballots? Exit polls are notoriously ridiculously skewed towards the most vocal group. (I haven't heard anything but Obama for weeks)

Watch it. I bet you most of the southern states will be McCain. Obama will get the north east corner. ID, WY,CO, and TX will be McCain. CA, OR, UT, and Washington will most likely be Obama.

I would say that most people don't know, most of who's left don't care, and most of the remainder don't want to deal with the consequences if Obama wins (esp. if it's by a huge margin like it looks like it might be right now) and is then subsequently stripped of his citizenship by Republicans and neocons. I honestly can't think of any faster way to bring 3rd world banana-republic style unrest to the US.
As far as all the rest.. if people want a socialist Muslim president and that's who they elect, sure, whatever. It doesn't say anywhere in the Constitution that the US is a Christian Capitalist Democracy, just that's it a democratic republic. Personally I don't give a rats as if he's Muslim or not and I think the whole socialism issue is overblown. Sure, he'll regulate the markets a lot more than they are now and probably raise our taxes. But we can't continue mortgage our future to pay for right now - the deficit is expected to exceed $1 trillion this year - and if the last couple of years has taught us anything it's that more regulation is needed in the markets. ---

Despite me well researched and thought out arguments I really don't care what happens whichever way. I suspect that if Obama is in fact trying to hide a socialist side and lets it out of its closet when elected that things will not bode well.
I am, however, like the Joker of Dark Knight. *geek powers on!* I may be intelligent and well thought out but I don't really care about the end result. Simply enjoy and am fascinated by the physiological things that people go through with the election, and if Obama does bring about the Apocolypse I get to see the world burn!
Of course if it's business as usual that's fine too. I'm easily amused. -- Distortion| Distortion 2 Preview |

Maybe if New Orleans got off it's lazy ass and did some it's own work they wouldn't still be complaining? (And yes I have every right to say that.)

New Orleans is a separate issue. I think it's a combination of issues actually.
- Nobody in power wants to rebuild New Orleans because it's virtually guaranteed that it will just flood out again sooner or later as it's below sea level. Coming out and saying this would be very unpopular though, so they just ignore the whole issue until it goes away.
... and...
- The people in power didn't want to bail out the people affected by the flooding (especially the poor folks who need help the most) since it's hard to argue that they, as a group, do anything useful.
... and...
- The more economically valuable areas of New Orleans (the French Quarter, the zoo, a few other places) were either minimally affected or not affected at all.
Add all that up, add in a corrupt Mayor, an incompetent Governer and a heavily neocon-influenced President, and you end up with a lot of people who are SOL and the government doesn't even have the decency to tell them so.
Personally I think the areas that flooded should be razed & abandoned. But I think the people who owned property there should be compensated at the value of their properly *before* the flood by the state of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans (not by the federal gov't though). ---
