The Mega Pulse Rokh actually looks pretty good on paper, but you'll be using an injector for all of your missions.

I have to disagree here. Because something is funny doesn't mean you're actually having fun. Normally, such a break in logic seems absurd. Once, long ago, I watched a movie called Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (or something like that). I was laughing hysterically throughout the movie but by the end I still wanted to kill myself because the movie was so terrible. Somehow they managed overcome hilarity with so much stupidity and absurdity that the movie was physically painful to watch.
Still, other than the fact that you throw away bonuses using certain weapons on certain ships, there is no reason to assume you can't or shouldn't. There are a host of reasons why a laser raven is a bad idea, but if you have FUN using it (and this is entirely subjective) then those reasons are pretty meaningless.

Nighthawk is simply the best looking ship in EVE. The Maller is the ugliest, next to the Domi of course.

if you're going to use lasers then wouldn't it be a better idea to use the rokh over the raven since the rokh has eight turret hardpoints?

Originally by: Rommer Galadorn Not really ignoring them, just not taking full advantage. Raven only has 4 turret slots, but 6 High slots, I think, which means I could still fit 2 launchers. Regardless, it's been made quite clear that this is a bad move, so I won't be pursuing a Raven. At this point, it's between training for Amarr ships (which is going to require learning armor skills as well, since I have mostly shield skills) or hoping a laser Megathron is viable.
Laser megathrons are not viable unless your aim is generating comedy killmails.
Viability is often a difficult argument. One cannot say it's impossible for a laser megathron to succeed, it's just going to be exceptionally difficult. Afterall, you are blatantly ignoring BOTH the ship's bonuses in favor of lasers, which will almost certainly trouble the Mega's cap. It would certainly perform poorly in comparision with the amarrian entries which are designed around the laser systems but that's a given.
But one must also consider the post patch blaster issue. While I don't belive as some do that the weapons will be utterly useless, I do recognize the inherit weaknesses of the system is further exacerbated and will essentially force your average blaster boat to give up the idea of true tackling in favor of an additional web, or tracking computer or even a target painter. In this light the laser system MIGHT just be a reasonable response to a very real issue.
So, while a laser mega would almost certainly lose in a slugging match with other PVP battleships one does have to ask if it is actually a loss in viability. I don't hold much stock in sisi testing and knee jerk whining and crying as some do - the real results will come on Tranquility. In the crucible of true PVP action we will have our answer on the viability of the blaster. With any luck, using lasers instead of blasters on a mega will remain a monumentally stupid move.
Indeed, old bean. *lights pipe*

Well man, I dont dissecate the matter that much, that aint fun
Whatever is entertaining or makes me have fun works for me.
Besides, The laser raven fits proposed aint all that horrible, they could actually work. Then you had enough fun with it and want to farm isk properly, you swap to a regular Raven fit, its that simple.

A lot of guns Can be used on ships of other races. Lasers usually not.
You simply cannot fit tachyons (PG wise) on anything but ammar bar the maelstrom without gimping your setup beyond infinity. And about any other battleships would get empty of their cap so fast is not even funny. Pulses are a bit more friendly but even so far from good options.
But if you REALLY want to fail you can use lasers in a typhoon /:P ------------------------------------------------- If brute force doesn't solve your problem... you are not using enough

I would definitely switch to Amarr. I started off Caldari, and switched to amarr shortly after because I didn't like the Caldari style. I would switch to Amarr, but don't rush to Battleships. Being in a battleship after only a month is pretty premature IMO. Also, cross training from missiles and shield tanking to lasers and armor tanking won't be a particularly fluid cross train. It'll basically be like starting all your combat skills over. But Amarr is really fun, and right now it is FOTM, so win!

Personally, the rokh would be a better choice than the raven for a laser ship. The rokh is not only much better looking, and in fact it really is along the ferox's and cormorant's style of design, it's also the ship of the two that has one weapon-independant bonus and a weapon bonus that can be easily ignored.
Here's a setup I threw together that's fairly effective on paper. 313m/s, 485 raw DPS with drones, 488 Serpentis tank with the given hardeners. For reference a LAR2 + 2 each kin/therm hardeners yields roughly a 444 DPS tank given the same damage spread.
[Rokh, New Setup 2] Capacitor Flux Coil II Capacitor Flux Coil II Capacitor Flux Coil II Capacitor Flux Coil II Capacitor Flux Coil II
100MN Afterburner II Large Shield Booster II 'Copasetic' I Particle Field Acceleration Ballistic Deflection Field II Heat Dissipation Field II Heat Dissipation Field II

Hammerhead II x5
As for the raven... If you're going to cross-train to amarr ships then you might try flying something like:
[Raven, Laven 1] Power Diagnostic System II Capacitor Flux Coil II Capacitor Flux Coil II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II
X-Large Shield Booster II Ballistic Deflection Field II Ballistic Deflection Field II Heat Dissipation Field II Heat Dissipation Field II Cap Recharger II
Mega Modulated Pulse Energy Beam I, Multifrequency L Mega Modulated Pulse Energy Beam I, Multifrequency L 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Paradise Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Paradise Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Paradise Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Paradise Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Paradise Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Paradise Cruise Missile
Ancillary Current Router I Capacitor Control Circuit I Capacitor Control Circuit I
Ogre II x2 Hammerhead II x2 Hobgoblin II x1
Lasers on a raven is fine by me but 4 lasers and 4 launchers isn't. Power grid and cap use issues make it very very hard to pull it off on even a semi-effective basis.
TBH, if you want to cross-train but use amarr-based skills on a raven you'd be much better off armor-tanking the raven than you would putting lasers on it in my opinion, and not just because it's totally awesome to hear gang members freak out as your shields go to 0 and tell you to warp out and spaz when you don't. ____________________

It's not impossible to put lasers on almost any BS if you're just using it for PVE. Including even the Megathron. You won't have to worry about getting killed so much for your crazy fits against npc's. Once upon a time I used a Dominix with lasers for quite a bit of mission running. Thanks to no ammo and didn't want to bother with hybrid skills. Just used drones for the primary means of damage dealing. This was when the nos-Domi was king in pvp and made switching fits between pve and pvp pretty quick for squeezing in a misson.
So if a laser Raven is what you want, go for it. In the grand scheme getting the BS ship skill trained for another race doesn't take long at all if you change your mind later.
