Edited by: Denuo Secus on 07/11/2008 20:29:54 Could this work?
I fly into a field of wrecks of a finished mission and pull all wrecks together with Orca's enhanced tractor beams. Then I loot all wrecks into Orca's cargo bay.
Now I leave the ship (in space) and change to a dedicated and ready fitted salvaging ship (with 8 highs full of salvagers) out of Orca's ship maintenance bay. That way I could salvage all wrecks at one place with maximum of 8 salvagers :)
I tried to leave a ship in space already with a Merlin. After entering the ship again it's shield was approx. at 70%. That was because my skills were not "present" when I was out of the ship.
Now the Orca is a complete another class with much more skill requirements. Any idea what could happen? The warning message when I left said the ship could even be destroyed ^^

So you plan to take a CAPITAL ship, a full-blown, easy-to-scan capital ship with low skill requirements that even I could meet in 2-3 weeks, leave it in your mission with no pilot and go off through a different gate to salvage another room? That sounds like a great idea mate. What agent do you run missions for, by the way? Most importantly, how are you supposed to tell whether this is part of my post or my signature? |

First, it's an "affordable sub capital" ship :P
Also I wouldn't fly into another room of this mission. Only undocking, salvaging near the ship and redocking. After the mission is done. And I'd do this in highsec. But yes, I didn't really consider the aspect of thievery

Post-edit: OK so I actually read the OP's post this time. No, not effective. The time you spend fartassing around tractoring crap in, swapping ships, bla bla bla, you could just as effectively use a destroyer/battlecruiser from the start to loot/salvage.
Post-post-edit: OK, so this time I actually parsed the OP's post instead of just skim-reading it. In fact it could possibly work quite well, ****ty 'unfitted ships' bugs from ship maintenance arrays not-withstanding.

The only way you can really make the orca a decent mission salvage ship is if you have a partner who either flies the orca or does the missions and salvaging while you fly the orca.
If you want to use the orca to it's fullest potential in a situation like that then you should consider it for an exploration support role.
It can pack in spare mods, ammo and drone reloads, and it can fit a destroyer, covert ops ship, heavy assault ship, and a hulk giving you the ability to exploit virtually any and every site that you don't need a couple of battleships to run. ____________________

given your budget.
might as well use a marauder ... You can use it for running the mission and salvage loot while doing so.
if you take the money for the orca + skills + missioning BS you'll not be too far off marauder money ^^.
