dudes at ccp, wow, you guys went through a lot of work for that speed nerf. scramblers turning mwd off, inertia stabs changed, ceptors changed, skirmish warfare links nerfed, webbers reduced to 60%. my gods, guys, are you ******ed?
the only thing broken were the vagas that could go faster than ceptors. that's really about it, except i spose you could argue some other cruisers needed to be slowed down a bit too.
but that's all you had to do. slow down the cruisers.
or, failing that simple fix, you could have increased the standard webber range to 24k. think about it. a 24k webber means any nanoship that comes in for a point is now web-able. so no more i-win ships. or if the i-win ship won't come in for the point then you can just warp out. problem solved.
i'd say that would be a helluva lot easier than the mess you just made.
oh, and i can't wait to put a scram on an ares, arazu or lachesis. :-)

And about the 24km web crap your talking about. That thing would screw up EVE like 57694785674895764985896748568759657597587 times more than EVE would get screwed ever .

yeah, been in the real world a while... just saw the new patch notes and phreaked out a bit.
and what would the 24k webber break? bs's can do the same thing to a ceptor or cruiser right now with a heavy neutralizer or two.

The speed nerf was two years overdue. Ever since rigs, implants, drugs, and heat were all introduced speed has been a problem.

I honestly fail to see how nano-ships got nerfed? You dont get to insane speeds anymore but u can still nano ur ship and fly circles around a slower one.
All the patch does is glorify pulse and missile boats while making blasters and drones totally exctinct. Minmatar can dictate range though they have similar problems with ACs like blasters do.

Edited by: Aesheera on 08/11/2008 22:50:53 Your proposition is ridiculous compared to the current patch.
And only cruisers should need a nerf?
How about Crows going 18km/s? Typhoons and Pests breaking ridiculous topspeeds? Machariels doing speeds that are way over the top?
The speed nerf will indeed make combat more interesting, the reduction in webstrength simply compensates a small bit for the lack of speed the formerly superfast ships could accomplish.
But to some extent I do agree that the current state of nerfing is too much.
Just my 2 cents.

DPS CROW \o/ Machariels doing the only think they do well! DAMN YOU DOING WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO! NanoPest? wat NanoPhoon? Low DPS, no tank when webbed.
Make Polycarbs stack more reduce mwd speed boost. Or make webs more effective or give the bellicose a small web bonus so even new players can be effective. You don't need to change PvP completly. _______________

Actually it WOULD be closer to 120km
(117.6km to be exact, I did the math, using lvl 5 skills a rapier with a domi web and a optimal booster in gang with the mindlink but not the implant would boost the range to 73.5km, and since you are proposing a 60% boost that would be 117.6... I am aware this does not fully add up but it comes close) It's about time I put something sensible in here, but I couldn't really come up with something so you'l have to do with this. Vaga is DESIGNED to go very fast and act as a large interceptor. It also cannot go faster than a similarly fit interceptor. It was never broken and was not nerfed.
I don't like the entire combat rework either. But if you think about it, it makes sense. One of the main problems with EVE combat mechanics was the 13km sphere of death and that is thrown in with the nano fix. Web nerf and missile nerf lets smaller ship become usable. Hit-and-run tactics are fine, but the run was getting out of hand. It is very easy to disengage when in a nano ship orbiting easily at 22km and can hit over 3km/s easy. If you really want to speed tank you have to risk it and go into web range with an AB. CCP wants it so if you choose to fight, you have to commit. --

Rapiers and huginns can web further than 120km now with the right (but rare) setup. Look at officer webs. Some fit on a rapier/huginn. Yes, they're used in combat (but very rare).
It isn't unheard of for rapiers/huginns to web at 70-80km between faction webs, heat, and gang bonuses. So a choice of a strong 10km web or a weak 20km web isn't a big deal.
Folks asking for a long range web were asking for something like a strong 80-90% 10km web, or a 25-30% 24km web.

The problem was that a Vaga was better then a ceptor in most regards. The major reason to fly a ceptor was because it was disposable. It was a better investment to pimp out a vaga than a crow.

Yeah I know of officer webs (40km max right now, 20 after nerf) but I left them out for reasons like payability etc... Like domi webs are really affordable even though they're 100m+ per... I have one sitting in my hangar doing etc... Officer webs are a different story.
What I did forget was heat... I think we have well reached the stage were we can all agree 24km normal webs would be insanity right?... some good stuff there, many thanks for a real reply.
let's see, my friend still flies his vaga with a 24k point. he can tackle and kill pretty much any cruiser or battlecruiser by orbiting at 20k and using arty's. they can't get close enough to either web me or scram him. so nothing has really changed.
he does have one new danger tho. that's the ceptor with a scram. he gets within 7.5k of my vaga friend and now the vaga's mwd goes off. ouch.
oh and hugins and rapiers aren't the deathtraps they used to be. in fact, it really nerfs them a lot. my vaga friend could probably keep 1 or 2k a sec around a rapier now and kill it. think about that.

Normal webs at 24km? yeah, bad.
However a web that could be scripted would be excellent. CCP apparently cannot implement this.
So the choice of a 10km 90% web or a 24km 25-30% would be excellent. I think most agreed that a 90% 24km web would be overpowered. The issue was that to be effective at that range it took a heavy neut. And only a battleship can effectively carry those.

The issue is that a vaga has always torn up ceptors trying to web a vaga. So its usually better to get folks into nanos themselves to counter nanos rather than using ceptors versus vagas.
And afs have been way to slow to think about using against nanos.

Agreed. a 9km scram is better than a 60% web. And a rapier/huginn cannot get within 9km of a nano.
So a rapier/huginn has to use 3x webs. Which means they either drop a 24km point or a lse. And rapiers/huginns aren't as effective against multiple hostiles.

I doubt that most of the people who are against the speed nerf think speed was a problem; something along the lines of "There are already plenty of counters" comes to mind.
As for handled correctly, I don't think there's a nice way of saying "we're going to nerf your ships" _____________________
