I would like to congratulate ccp on the new patch, even tho its only been running for a few hours it seems more stable, the market has most of the items (tech 2 diags and reactors missing) the electronic med slot items only taking 1 grid to help frigates fit and the turrent fixes
however entering leaving local announcments should be disabled, ye si knwo they can be client side, but in busy systems it is impractical and it is a major giveaway in pvp combat, checking the map for piliots in space was bad enough.
So please post your veiws on this. It only serves to give extra help to people who never check local for piliots entering their system anyway and greatly hinders the value of scouts to a fleet. __________________________________________________

This new "feature" is nothing but utter bull$hit and will do nothing but destroy the possibility to sneak up on people in a system if they are stupid enough not to watch local. Please remove this crap and tell people to learn how to watch local instead... frikkin Carebear-feature .

using your map, watching local for new entries is currently a very good way for people to spot incoming, having everyone announce themselves as they enter is ridiculous __________________________________________________

Lose this and also get rid of people showing in local and number of pilots in space and then and only then will scout be really worth while. This will also result in more fights and death which is good for the market etc. ATM it is hard enough to get a good fight but this just sucks now. After all you should not be in 0.0 space if you can't look after yourself

It's fine. just disable it if it bothers you. So what if people see you coming and going. It's just as easy to monitor the channel name list.
If I were monitoring the local right now. Even if there is 100 players in local.. I would still disable the notification thing and just watch the name list.
Only thing I would change.. I would change the color of the notifications. But it doesn't bother me much since I disable the feature.
If it were up to me....
I would get rid of jumpgates as we know them today.. Instead, every star would be visible in space, the jumpgates would be replaced with jump rings. These rings would line up with the stars they send you to. And when you travel through the ring. You would actually see the system you are in getting smaller, while the system you are going to gets bigger.. You would see all the stars around you moving. So you could really get that distance affect with stars further away moving slower. The time it takes to get to the next solarsystem, that time would be used to actually load the next solarsystem.. The player would not even know they loaded a new solarsystem. To us the users, it would just look like we were traveling to the next system..
The scanning. I would get rid of the map "show pilots" and the "local name list" stuff. Local would still be there. But you wouldn't see people in a names list. You would only see them if they said something in the channel. Then their name would popup on the name list. But still you would be able to scan the entire system for people anyways..
Every ship would have the ability to scan the system it is in, for other players. And the long range scanner would be able to scan the neighboring solarsystems for ship signatures. So instead of "show pilots in space" on the map, you would have a long range scanner to show how many pilots are in the neighboring systems.. And for local pilots in the same system, you would find them from the short-range scanners.
Dunno though.. I know it's posible, but probably not gonna happen in this game.

I really don't see it changing much for my sake. When im running around or doing anything while at war with other corporations i watch local like a hawk. Wether they pop up in the local window or have a little thing that says who entered local really doesn't change the fact that i'm still paying a big amount of attention to who's in the system. _______________

I'm just saying that relying on local as being unknown as a tactic is kind of flawed to begin with. Only really works on folks who probably hardly pk or with people with really small monitors that don't have the real estate to keep it open.
Now, removing the ability to see folks in local at all is a different possibility altogether. I would actually support that. I just don't think it's in the cards.
My opinions on this are also contingent upon how cloaking modules flesh out in the game (ie do you appear in local etc etc blah blah blah with what ship and which module). --- The Tarsis Shriners |

I would support removing local altogehter aswell. Maybe still have the chat open but don't list a player in there unless they send a message. _______________

Make it like this..
Keep the map option for "Show pilots in space", but also add a new medium slot module. A new module that will "Mask your signature" from scanners. This will make you not show up on the map with the Show Pilots option..
In local.. Have the names hidden on the name list. But if you talk on local, your name appears on the list for 30 seconds. However. The scanner window will have a system wide short-range scan to gather the player names. This scanner will not update automatically. So you would have to constantly monitor it to see who is in the system.
Every ship will have this short-range scanner built in. So if you want to be hidden in the system, you will have to fit one of thoughs modules I mentioned above. The module that "Masks your signature" from scanners.. This will make you show up on the scanner as "Unknown". instead of showing your username..

Removing local? And what the heck does one who is mining suppose to do if his corp is at war? Curl up in a corner? Take the risk and go out mining, even though the enemy can jump him without him having slightest chance of escaping? (yeah, mining lasers are very powerful..right.. miners can defend themselves with them)
And before you start yelling 'carebear' n00b left and right, have you last checked how important mining is for EvE?
