Or even God forbid, some protection from other corp members. _______________

Remove local from < .5 space. I like it :).
And that person who was whining about not being able to fight because we have to sneak - Obviously you've never fought anyone who runs when a fleet comes into local that might be a small challenge. --

Let me guess, you want to mine the higher-end ore all by yourself with little risk involved. You don't like the idea of bringing a couple friends to help defend your mining operation, because it is too much of an inconvenience for you.
There are hundreds of small groups & corporations in low sec and 0.0 space who are able to mine, haul, and defend their own operations with no problem.
40,000 accounts are subscribed to this game, and your exuse for not being able to find a couple of people to help defend your mining ships.. is what exactly?
Please, enlighten me.

i hate this "feature" in local, i believe it should be removed. and i am in favor of anything that will make the local chat less usefull and require more skill (as in useing all the different scanners or something of the sort) to better know ur enviroment and surroundings

The only ppl that want local removed etc, are pirates
So what, oh , I forget u like a easy life. OMG this would mean you have to work a little harder! To get your ękillĘ
A large number of the normal ppl like myself, like this new feature and I feel It should stay
So to all you pvpers/pirates/anyone else that likes a easy life
Deal with it !!
Like all the miners and traders do on a day to day basis

I'm sorry, I missed your logic as to why _YOU_ should get it easy.
Removing contact list in local doesn't make it easier for pirates to find you. Instead, it gives us both an equal chance of spotting/avoiding eachother. You like being fair don't you?
You don't want it removed because it gives you an advantage over pvp'ers, something you value more than a fair and balanced game. Please stay in empire space, with the rest of the non-pvp'ers plz? kthx.

Edited by: Estios on 07/07/2004 15:03:42 Edited by: Estios on 07/07/2004 15:02:49 I said on Entropy and IRC that I didnt think many of the community wouldn't like it and folks I talked to thought it was a flawed idea. My reply was a very helpful "Read the Topic" ??
I wasnt sure what topic I was supposed to read and was rather stoned so dropped the subject.
I think its a pretty ridiculous feature and should be removed. Turning off is convient but is NO WAY a work around like some keep suggesting. We dont like it because its tactically inept, not because its annoying (although it is until you turn it off)
I can only presume they implemented it because of this local bug we have seen since last patch ie some pilots showing in local when not and others not when they are. Perhaps its just another lazy workround like the cloaking uber nerf ????
I hate that carebear term but Bsport, you have surely won carebear of the week award. You think initiating PVP is already easy ? you think PVP'ers only whine to makes their lives easier ? and that miners and traders have it hard ? Purleeease ... Ever considered that a lot of PVP'ers USED to mine and trade but fancy some PVP too ? Getting PVP in EVE is like pulling teeth, most PVP'ers have experienced every aspect of EVE and simply see the bigger picture
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

Originally by: Mr nStuff It's fine. just disable it if it bothers you. So what if people see you coming and going. It's just as easy to monitor the channel name list.
If I were monitoring the local right now. Even if there is 100 players in local.. I would still disable the notification thing and just watch the name list.
Only thing I would change.. I would change the color of the notifications. But it doesn't bother me much since I disable the feature.
If it were up to me....
I would get rid of jumpgates as we know them today.. Instead, every star would be visible in space, the jumpgates would be replaced with jump rings. These rings would line up with the stars they send you to. And when you travel through the ring. You would actually see the system you are in getting smaller, while the system you are going to gets bigger.. You would see all the stars around you moving. So you could really get that distance affect with stars further away moving slower. The time it takes to get to the next solarsystem, that time would be used to actually load the next solarsystem.. The player would not even know they loaded a new solarsystem. To us the users, it would just look like we were traveling to the next system..
The scanning. I would get rid of the map "show pilots" and the "local name list" stuff. Local would still be there. But you wouldn't see people in a names list. You would only see them if they said something in the channel. Then their name would popup on the name list. But still you would be able to scan the entire system for people anyways..
Every ship would have the ability to scan the system it is in, for other players. And the long range scanner would be able to scan the neighboring solarsystems for ship signatures. So instead of "show pilots in space" on the map, you would have a long range scanner to show how many pilots are in the neighboring systems.. And for local pilots in the same system, you would find them from the short-range scanners.
Dunno though.. I know it's posible, but probably not gonna happen in this game.
Great, Excellent. But require a lot of programming efforts and change to the current engine. Doing that would delay shiva a lot. That could bd between shiva and kali. --------------------------------

It's a nice feature in corp and the market chats, etc., but it has no place in local.

its not only pvp users who want the anouncement removed
it does however only seem to be some miners who want it kept in, for their own selfishness __________________________________________________

It has to go...!!!
I for one cannot believe that anyone up at CCP thought "Hey what a great idea"
I don't think that they even mentioned that they were going to implement such an item. Why? Because they know its wrong and they do not feel good about doing it.
Dev's you are straying from your chosen, and stated Path.
Be true to yourselves and the Game that you created.
Does anyone even remember the player base suggesting such an addtion?

The join/leave change is GOOD. However a forced visibility in local is BAD. Like most here i would advocate the removal of local, not the chat per se but the list of users in local. So that people who want to talk can simply talk and it will show up but people who are silent won't be shown on local at all.
I mean there is a reason you have a scanner that can scan 16 AU away. 16AU gives you plenty of seconds to get out before the enemy arrives.
Also, WHEN (the chance is so necessary i'll not even speak of IF) they change the map to hide pilots in space in non empire space it will be a lot easier for small miners to go deep space and hide to mine in peace. It will be a lot harder for pvpers to gank people since they'll have to actually look for people. This change, more than any other would be very balanced for both pvp as non pvpers.

In some way, i also agree that "local" should be completely removed from atleast 0.0 since it is 100% dangerous outthere.
