The Jove are dead
These once magnificient and mysterious people where held with such reverency for so long they inspired tales of fear and wonder.
Just over a hundred years ago they gave us technology that was well beyond our understanding. A race of people in superior position giving technology to us barbarians who not to long before have tried to confront them in the battle of Van'kolth. Why give us the technology that could lead to thier demise? To what ends or reasons?
The Jovian's gentetic disease is a clear answer to why.
The Jove are a dying race and they no longer fear us more than thier own end. To ensure the balance of power they give the technology they deemed worthy of inheriting, and deny us the other technology to keep us from making the same mistakes they as a race have.
Where as this technology lead us
Immortality is a small concequence of it. War was the other
In the never ending struggle of superiority the four empires have amassing mountains of knowledge, playwrights of war, and fourtunes of entire systems. We have come far from the ashes of Van'koth 10,000 capsuleerless ship disaster against the 7 jovian ships
The Jovian battleship sank nearly 9 years ago the effort of 200 capsuleer captains
We've built ships with morphite and are mastering its properties
We've built ships with sleeper fullerides, and making ships with capabilities in flexbility that would make a jovian ship jelaous in the amount of coverage a strategic cruiser can accomidate
Weapons like our titan super weapons have been a curiosity to the Jovians
And more and more incidents of meeting with jovians in the mordern times are ghosts or echos or forgotten memories. Everything we seen recently none of it has been living breathing jovian
CONCORD even has been makign advances with their jovain given technology their pod jammers are becomming more and more effective
We are beginning to master the technology of the jovian's own ancestors beyond what they could have done.
Sleeper Technology isnt enough to overwhelm similar numbered capsuleer ships
And since the beginning of YC113 Thousands of fleet updates have been made. Battleships used to not withstand an assault against a Heavy Assault Cruiser for more than five seconds. Now laugh at the HACs and shrug thier attacks off. Bombers with bomb launchers, Micro Jump Drives, thousands of nunances in minor software updates and hardware equipment has been showing improvements in combat and reducing how well we can engage each other. Combat ranges of 450kms reduced to mere 250kms now. Lock times lengthening, weapons being better resisted, then weapons being cranked up to counter. The list goes on
Yet what equipment updates have the Joves made? What have they expanded with? What reasons do they need to? Death of thier race looms over their head they don't have time to upgrade thier ships
And now we're facing Sansha Ships built from the ashes of the Jovian Empire, whom are using Jovian technology to launch attacks against the empires. Despite the use of the promised land and the malpractices of Sansha and abuse of living people into a pernamently watergraved state to make impromptu capsuleer ships to fight us. Its still not enough to take us on one for one in numbers.
Now we are throwing immortality around with wreckless abandon turning normal people into unkillable soldiers, how long before even the common man has this? How long this elite status is that of commoners?
Face it people Jove are no longer technologically superior to us. We surpassed them wtihout notice We are the authors to the future now
Maybe we are the solution, thier salvation, thier inheritors of the stars they where once masters of...
In the vain hope we may avoid the same fate that befell them.

that was a really good read, actually. I've always visioned joves as impossible to kill by us capsuleers, but you're right, we've got even better, even more efficient tech than they have, all because they wanted to engineer themselves and are now dying from it. Poor bastards. Love my Gallente Federation Navy ships! |

But remember that was just a few of their ships, and I don't doubt they've been advancing their technology too (if not in the area of "not dying of a genetic disease", then almost certainly in ships). Given equal numbers, and modern ships of both sides - plus any support technology they have (off-grid remote repairs, maybe, or cloaking that doesn't need to be shut off to target things), I'm pretty sure the capsuleers would come off worse. Jove where from the ashes of the sleeper empire. As jovians are to us is sleepers are to them.
Remember in that time we managed to recover a Terran weapon and use it. Who knows how much knowledge KNOWING such weapons had exist could cause empires to do for thier research goals?

Nova has got a point.... thanks to regular updates of EvE online, the four empire's tech is accelerating much faster than Jove tech has canonically.
However we all know that if the devs want the Jove to remain superior they can pull something out of their asses and say like "Turns out capsuleer tech was actually used to spy on the four empires, and now the Jove have everything you do, except better!" |

jove tech is still better but people still think 1 jove battleship can take out 30 amarr BS.... its just false. the only real super superior ship in the jove fleet is their motherships, and they only have like 3. the only real fight jovians won vs amarr was because of the BS practice of "no retreat" so they all sat there and died from mothership DDs and frigs they couldn't track. with the improvements in.. well.. everything even slavematars could take on joves. |

What, like the wormhole incursions into sleeper space?
Capsuleers don't do incursions. We do MIGRATIONS. We don't attack in waves and then stop, we MOVE IN. We SETTLE. We harvest resources, bootstrap ourselves up to capital ships, and start farming the locals for their hull materials.
If a way was found into Jove space, the Jovians would leave. |

There were Jove characters in a recent Dev build, looked v cool (black eyes/blood veins and pale skin)
Templar One explains that the Enheduanni are a sister race of the Jove who lived in a VR state where time is considerably sped up so scientIfic/technologigal/military advances come much more quickly. The sleepers are the guardians of the Enheduanni - as with the Jove, are in a virtual battle with an entity called 'the Other'. The Jove genetic disease is from this ongoing battle. The Other is the entity that possesses Empress Jamyl via the salvaged implant technology from Falek Grange etc. etc. A great read, must be summarised properly somewhere
Given that the Jove have thousands of years on the empires, some of that in accelerated VR worlds, then it's unlikely that we would have caught them up in a century in normal time. I'd love to see the Jove in game but remaining impossibly advanced [;)

Nice surmise Nova - +1 easter egg to you.
The Jove have been quiet for a very long time now. It was never fully explained why they tried to send a diplomat in the first place all those years ago and the retreat back into themselves, bar a few sightings of battleships, has never been fully explained. Sure the dipo ended up spread across the universe, but the Jove got most of him back. The capsuleers showing willing on their side yet the Jove just retreat and never retry a dialogue. Odd.
You are certainly right in the way our Tech has moved onward hugely since many of the 'incidents' involving Jove tech ships and capsuleers. The question though as to whether they have also moved upward is inconclusive and its conjecture to say not.
I think the question really is : Have the Jove succumbed to the illness.

I really hate redactions. Original text said 1 mothership (in the context it was just a mobile 'colony ship' and 7 'support' ships which hinted at being frigates.
This could be the result of historians trying to make it seem a less of a disaster, maybe because of the influence of technology creep making the 7 ship defeating thousands just seem less likely nearly impossible. So Amarr historians went back and 'corrected' the problem.
The other distrubing redaction was the number of amarrian ships that where sent to reclaim the Jove. The newest version declares two thousand. not the 10,0000 ship disaster.

Our most advanced tech, our Strategic cruisers, can only be made through salvaging the technology we seize from the Sleepers. We still cannot create it from scratch, we are reliant upon what they left behind. We have not surpassed the Jove, we have simply shortened the gap in our capabilities.
I do not know if the Jove are still out there, it seems unlikely that they would all have died off in less than a decade since last formal contact. Are they still capable of being a power in New Eden? Who knows, perhaps not as they were. We know that the Jovians possess long life spans, despite the disease that plagues them. Their perception of time may have become quite different to our own, the passing of a decade might seem quite inconsequential to them.
If the Jove are truly gone, then CONCORD has likely chosen to suppress that information as it would weaken their authority over the other Empires.
