Edited by: Keltanae on 22/08/2009 03:39:12 Okay seriously CCP, this should have been addressed in the patch. Having the same thing happening over and over again ever since 1.3 patch. Its not my connection, I want it fixed, tired of losing drones in missions everytime I see socket closed, getting interrupted while I'm moon probing and traveling. |

This is getting beyond a joke. The patch didn't fix this issue. Well looks like its time to unsubscribe as this game is unplayable. I will be back when/if they fix this BS.

I've been having the same problem along with other corp members with "Socket Closed" since the last patch. Didn't have any issues with this before the patch.

HI
For thoes of you that are getting socket close I have found an easy fix to it that works for me just open the help channel ingame and leave it open for the first time in two years I was able to stay log in eve all day with out getting socket close even if i sit idal for over an hr. so this is realy telling me that ccp has done soemthing to the game and has nothing to do with my internet provider and anything on my end at all and they realy need to stop saying to use to check with are provider or are internet conections and start looking at what they secure up and fix it they should not be asking us for help if they whant help from us on what they missed up on then they should start paying us money becosue we are are doing there work for them. I hope this will help other untail they fix what is wrong.

It's really weird for me at times... I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the game. The game disconnects, and my entire net shuts down on my PC. I'd initially think that was something with my PC. But it's been happening after specific actions. The second after I clicked to dock, the second after I bought a shuttle, and so on. I knew it was right after, as I was having a convo with my corp mates.
This hasn't happened with any other MMO or program, so I'm pretty confused. ---

I finally seem to have solved the problem for my mac as well as my windows clients by exchanging my router (downgraded from a speedport w700v to a speedport w502v). As there were no eve related problems with the w700v before I'd say some network coding was changed as part of the "need for speed" initiative and side effects of these changes now sum up with all the little glitches client-, router- and isp-side to an other kind of butterfly effect ;).

I have the same problem as everyone else. Get DC:ed after approx 1 min.. sometimes even after a few seconds! Got the problem for the first time last night, and have not had any problems at all before, and have done no changes in settings or connection! And i can confirm that the "help chanel fix" does not work... unfortunaly :D

Hey guys, I need a little...LOT of help. This is a long story, but over 3 different tech support remote assists, of 2 hours each, no one could solve this problem. HP, ASUS, and MICROSOFT (all PAID 59.99, because the free versions couldnt solve them either)
So here I go, I bought a Compaq 2 days ago (I know I know, ****ty system, but I just wanted to run EvE and BF2)and installed EvE and Battlefield 2 (Project Reality mod=awsome). Internet worked PERFECT. Could Surf, download, whatever. BUT, when I tried to log into EvE or BF2 account server, it was the same old error over and over. The server has refused the connection for BF2, or the much longer one that ends in "Odds are that your internet connection is not establishe....blah blah." from EvE. I spent 59.99 and 2 hours with remote assistance with HP. It had been a long day, and before I had paid HP, there free remote assistance with a level 1 technician lasted 4 hours. I returned that hideous creation of Satan back from whence it was born.... Brandsmart.... So I buy a significantly more expensive ASUS. Low and behold, SAME ****ING PROBLEM. At this point a ****ing flip and call both ASUS, AND MICROSOFT TECH SUPPORT. Both upgraded to level 2 technicians and still, NO ONE CAN FIX IT! At this point, you might be saying its my ISP. Well, I have an unusual ISP. I live in a modern apt with free high speed internet. Skynap, I figured out from asking questions. I called and asked them if they had similar problems with other people. They said I was the first. And the plot will thicken further. My HP Laptop (which I gave to HP to repair some wate damage 3 days ago...its why I bought the pc, cause it would take 30 days for the laptop to get back and I need to be able to type for the fall semester) is able to run the game and connect PERFECTLY to both eve and bf2 account servers! I think I'm losing my mind...
Here is a list of **** the technicians f'ed with: Turned off all firewalls, deleted norton, turned internet security OFF, turned User Account Recognition off, updated all drivers/patched/uninstalled/reinstalled/REFORMATTED THE ENTIRE PC TWICE ON EACH ONE/f'ed with the tcp/ip settings/a plethora of other random crap.
I am plugged into the WALL now, no router involved. My laptop that ran both games uses the SAME OS (Vista Home Premium). I have conducted pings and traceroutes and sent them to my ISP representative who shares my dislike for Vista (and is NOT F'ING HINDU LIKE ALL OF MY OTHER PAID TECHNICIANS!...I mean, wtf, outsource much?)
Below is a copy of that email. Below are two pings and 2 traceroutes to the game server (and google). So what does this mean? Here are two traceroutes to the game server Results from: /usr/sbin/traceroute 87.237.38.200:

the socket error pretty much only happens to me when there's no activity happening in any of the chat channels, or in local. i do some work on the other screen, so i can't always be playing eve and keeping communication happening between the client and eve servers. that's what i've "diagnosed" the cause of my socket disconnect problems to be:
just an inactive client not keeping a stream of packets flowing between itself and the servers. maybe an "autoping" or a "keepalive" in the client of some sort would correct it.

To all of you!
Having the same and/or more problems of the problems shown in this thread, i would like to had the following:
Asked a IT friend of mine to poke my pc and everything to see what was wrong. After around 3 hours or cheking and testing, he turns to me and says " its your internet" I phoned my internet Provider and after some explanation and some cheking from them they admited it was their fault. After around a month of waiting without them finding a solution, i changed my internet provider and guess what? I got no problems whatsoever, none, zip, nada.
So before blaming ccp, as i was doing to in the begining, phone ur IP and if it fails, change it.

I had a few DC`s yesterday on my wireless laptop. One of those DC`s happened after i docked and opened my hanger. The hanger showed nothing and then i was DC`ed. Other DC`s occured after a little time of inactivity (few seconds to minutes). In all those occasions i got "Socket closed". It seems that after a spell of inactivity (even a few seconds) my connection time`s out. So when after a time out, i try to query the sql-server i get the socket disconnect. I am by no means an expert but i think that this is propably an SQL-server issue caused by improperly closed connections or lack of enough user connections.
The proposed remedies mentioned in other posts (keep connected to the server by generating traffic) seem to point to the above mentioned cause. I hope CCP adresses this issue a soon as possible because its very annoying.
PS: I wonder if these DC`s happen only in wireless networks. ------------------------------------------------
Damn its dangerous here. Good thing i brought my towel. By the way... how do i get to Lave? |

Edited by: BIZZAROSTORMY on 26/08/2009 19:26:38 `The socket closed issue is often because of Bittorrent clients like Vuse/Azureus
if anyone on the same network as you is downloading it will cause this.
Solution: Restart the machine doing the downloading, restart your own, start eve, profit.
(if you have wifi make sure it is secured - reset the password while you're at it)

I'm getting the same error too. I seriously doubt it is my internet provider because this game was working absolutely fine the past couple of days before I started to get this problem. Even if that was the case I can't easily change my provider because I am under contract with my ISP. I suppose what's making me rage the most is I cannot play a game that I had to build a new computer to play. I like EVE and I want to continue playing, but what's the point in paying for a game you cannot play.

I'm having the same problems; if I do anything but sit in stations doing nothing major, I might jsut be able to be online for a very long time. If I actaully go do anything, ANYTHING AT ALL, EVE crashes after about two hours, at most.
At that point when I logg back in I get to see the game online for maybe two minutes, or so. Then it crashes again, regardless of what I do. After the second crash and on, it will die on the "entering game" progress-bar, usually you don't even get to see space/inside of stations. Currently this makes the game completely unplayable unless I want a glorified phone-call service :/
I have a brand new 10k crowns gaming-PC, that ran EVE completely smoth up until the point I got this issue, I have broad-band, not a wireless, and the issue with 'no packages sent' don't seem to affect me; I could leave EVE online and go afk, so long as I did not leave station.
Also, strangely enough, now that I'm typing this post, the slide-bar on the right refuse to keep up; it bounces up and down with each press of a key, making it hard to see what I'm typing.
Frustrating, to say the least. I'll give this game a few months, amybe half a year. If this problem is not fixed by then, or no fix from my end works, I'll have no choice but to un-sub really. No need paying for something that don't work...

Game's unplayable for me. It seems it might be related to dual boxing. I play 2 accounts on 2 computers and when I have both active, I get the "Socket" message. It goes away when I only play 1 account. Sucks.

Can anyone else who is on at around this time check to see if it happens to them too please?
Looks like your ISP's daily resetting your connection.
Neg. Was the first thing I checked.
All other data transfers go without a hitch. I even created a little Java program that sits on my external server and a client on this machine. It passes random hashed data between the two on port 26000. Everything checks out fine.
There is something between my machine and the server (which is only 7 or 8 jumps) which is causing it. Data over the same port, but a different route does not suffer from the issue.
I have a few ideas on what I can try next though.

I used to think it was a problem with a gateway from my isp to level3.net - when playing aoc about a year ago a seemingly similar problem with random disconnects arouse. It appeared that t-online had not estimated so much traffic on a specific gateway to level3.net and the rising number of active players caused the gateway to drop packets due to overload. My old router did work well with eve before the need for speed initiative. It does work flawless when I use a different route. Changing my router using my default isp/route works too. So what the heck...
Some time ago I whiresharked my connection and constantly pinged tranquility during this session. tranquility kept answering to these pings within round about 54ms, no packet loss was recorded. But I got disconnected all the same with the client resending some request five times before restarting.
May be the "need for speed" initiative optimized ccp's network code just too good to stay working stable in all network environments.

I'm getting this issue as well now... I haven't played the game in a couple of days and between now and then I did get a new linksys router, but that said... I don't see why that would cause this sort of issue... I can log on for about 1 minute and then i get the boot.

Started getting this issue right after updating to apoc 1.5, never had it before.
I run two clients at the same time. Sometimes they both socket error at the same time, sometimes one does and the other doesnt.
Because one keeps running sometimes and the other doesnt, this means it cant be my internet connection, surly they would both work or both not? Firefox/IE still runs after the socket errors.
The times are random, from a few seconds into the game to 2 or 3 hours.
Over the last few days i got disconected dozens of times and ended up not playing at all
This is since updating to the latest client version.

I have been getting this problem since downtime on Monday 31st.
I get a "socket closed" error within 1-4 minutes of logging in. Half the time the authentication bar fills up at login and the client hangs.
The game is unplayable at this point.

It's been a while since I last posted here. Been too busy playing Eve...
Anyway, my solution was to stop Bit Torrent's DNA service, which is installed as part of the more recent versions of Bit Torrent. Btdna.exe, for those who still have problems, and have Bit Torrent installed, look for it in your running processes. Stop the process, and see if your problems go away. (DNA is also a separately uninstallable program from Bit Torrent, so you can remove it completely without killing bit torrent downloads.)
My random drops and socket closed errors are completely a thing of the past just by stopping this one program.

Been trying to play now for about 2 hours and I keep getting disconnected with the "Socket Closed" message... I've done everything on my end that is normally suggested when something like this happens and nothing has made a difference.. It started during a time when I was using the market quite a lot, but now it's happening pretty much as soon as I log in (MAYBE I can stay in-game 2 minutes, last 5 times I've tried I haven't even lasted 20 seconds) I know it's not a problem on my end, since everything else works fine... Tried 3 other MMOs, file downloading, even streamed a movie and a tv show... The game worked fine yesterday and now today I logged in to do some work on the market before I went to work and, apparently, I'm not going to be able to do anything....

And NOW I can't even log in.. The second the first screen pops up I get an error message saying the program stopped working...
I really hope they fix this soon (and find a way to reimburse us for the game time we've paid for that we're unable to use)
Were it just me having this problem I'd be inclined to think I'd not done something right or it was something on my end, but it's obviously not me (I say this, not only because of how long this thread is, but also because of the people who've told me [either in the SHORT time I was able to play today or from the several friends I've talked to on the phone tonight saying they're having the same problem])
