This has begun happening to me. I notice I tend to keep one client open, that doesn't disconnect, but all of my other ones get shut down, usually one after another. It's driving me insane, I have to reform my alt fleets almost constantly, lose connection on my covert ships floating in hostile space, etc, etc. I'm just lucky I haven't lost anything to it yet.

I use OpenDNS and it still happens. It has nothing to do with DNS.

I also have this problem. My ISP connection is OK and there's no hardware issue.
I could be logged on with one account and the other account is disconnecting randomly.
I've almost went insane last night, it took less than 5 min before i disconnected, after 20+ retries I give up.. But my other account is more "stable" and is connected to internet on the same ISP and computer.
My fellow corp members is experiencing the same issue. Eve is not playable as this issue is on its third week for me...

Originally by: Amarr Valkyre Hey all. I had the exact same problem, but seem to have found a fix for it. I run "PingPlotter" in the background. Seems it keeps the socket "open".
I use the following settings: Address to trace: 87.237.38.200, # of times to trace: Unlimited, Trace Interval: 2.5 sec., Samples to include: 1500.
Check it out and see if it works for you.
This is worth trying - until a couple of days ago I still had this issue, but after a petition reply suggested running pingplotter to see if there was any packetloss etc I tried it....and didn't get a connection loss while having it run in the background. (no idea if it was just co-incidence or not as I've not had a socket closed error for the last couple of days even without it running).

Edited by: Zharah on 08/10/2009 04:53:45 ^This appears to help. But not a universal or all-encompassing solution. Still some drops and socket closed messages. Connection seems to go to hell after crossing the pond to Germany and then UK.
Edit: Yeah, don't count on this working all the time. A pair of dropped connections already while PingPlotter is in operation.

I'm getting randomly disconnected since yesterday, sometimes it's the main, sometimes the alt, one time it was teh sisi client (after waiting 3 hours \o/ ). Getting no socket message, the client just closes with the usual windows error. Happens every 5 minutes or every 2 hours, for no obvious reason. Just had 2 corp mates telling me that too.

I too have been having this problem, however now I am having a bigger problem. When I try to start the game back up, I have sound from the game but nothing on screen but my desktop. I have tried updating all of my drivers, etc. Not sure if anyone else has seen this but I can't even log on to the game because I can't see the login screen. I am running Vista.

I've been having this issue for a few weeks now. It's screwy. I even installed an additional fan in my computer today, thinking I was having GPU issues. (it's been running rather hot lately) Apparently this has been a problem for -quite- some time. Oh hey, there it went again. Hooray, now I have to warp back to the station I was repping outside of. Thankfully I can finish this mission off without my 24% hull failing on me.

Since after downtime today - I have had this socket closed problem on both my machines on any of my accounts. If I get to play for longer than 2 mins, I am fortunate - therefore I have given up on Eve for today. Hopefully after tomorrow's downtime, I can play again.
Interestingly, my other online game does not give me any problems. |

Same here from South Africa. Socket Closed errors started 2 days ago. Can rarely be more then 2 minutes logged on. I'll be damned if I have to d/l the client again. Will just have to do skills training for the moment

Edited by: XennoX268 on 14/10/2009 07:57:06 Yeah, I get it every 2-3 minutes since downtime yesterday. Hell I was even online when downtime was suppose to end and CCP posted a message saying 'Downtime is extended by 10 minutes due to a server having startup issues.'
It makes Eve ultimately unplayable.
Edit: Also connecting from SA. It seems a couple of my other buds from SA are having the same issue to. My entire corp last night was dropping.

Getting same errors, constant disconnecting.
Also connecting from SA. Could it be to do with our "wonderful" transparent proxy telkom is using?

Hi I'm also from SA in Jozi. The socket closed problem started on Monday for the first time. Downloaded the client from scratch last night installed this morning and it still happens. Looking into possible remedies atm playing around with settings ect. My bro in Secunda is running fine got all his profile settings so checking that as well.

And I'll bet a bag of swaz sakkie up there is SA too & is using telkom adsl.
Bugger, and I swapped my isp not so long ago to telkom cause my old one kept blokking TS/vent.
Any suggestions SA boys & girls? Getting help from telkom support is like taking to a stuffed monkey.

Also in SA here, had the socket closed error about every 2 minutes. I have tried different DNS servers, OpenDNS and enabling and disabling proxies. Disabled antivirus too, for good measure. No changes. Eve is currently the only program with connection issues.
I then opened up 26000 UDP and TCP on my firewall (never needed to before), and followed the suggestion to keep a high traffic chat open to keep the connection alive. My connection is up for longer now (maybe 10 minutes), but still getting the socket closed/ client restart error.
It makes no difference whether I use the full or safe mode client, the game is still unplayable.
Will fiddle a bit more and see if anything else changes. I'm becoming more convinced this is a server issue since the last patch, as it worked fine before then.

Im no techie when it come to networks, but Im guessing one of 2 things.
either CCP has changed something to do with how they treat IP addresses that arent the same as the one u connected from. (if you're on the saix backbone you're never using your own IP, but instead going through a transparent proxie server farm for all international traffic. which means the ip address the eve server see's 'from u' changes now and then while you're still connected)
Or telkom has changed something with the proxie to block the traffic or cycle ip addresses more often... dunno

Strange thing is, if I switch over to my IS backbone account, I no longer get Socket Errors. So I am seriously thinking Telkom/SAIX did something. That, or CCP's servers are more sensitive to IP cycling.

Same thing happening here since Monday night. Also in SA and also on Telkom.
Haven't been able to stay connected for more than 3 to 5 minutes at a time since Monday night. It's driving me nuts. The game has become complete unplayable. There isn't even any point in leaving the station. Any one found a solution yet? My guess is it's the IP cycling. Somebody help us please.

I've also had this problem... Can't stay connected for more than 3 minutes (even less at times)... I'm from South Africa aswell - and it seems there's an issue with the packet routing as soon as it leaves our shores. It's really frustrated not being able to take part in pvp ops because of these drops.

Edited by: Alandrix Deck on 14/10/2009 14:54:34 Haha, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only SA boykie with the same problem. I've heard that Telkoms been having some issue with their service for the last 3 days or so, and it looks as if they've done half a job fixing it, as usual.
I think we can safely rule out a CCP issue here, we're all from SA and we've all had this problem since about Monday. Does anybody have an ISP account that doesn't DC after 5min?
*edit.
Ok, I've been asking my fellow Corpmates. Seems the guys using the IS backbone are still doing fine (As stated by a poster above). I think Axxess is offering a good deal on a 6pm to 6am unshaped account atm, think I'll give them a ring.

Well I figured it seems to be only happing on telkom/saix backbone, which means it probly is the badwidth shaping proxies giving us hell. So for guys in South Africa having this issue, here was my simple solution:
Goto http://www.axxess.co.za/prepaid.php Pay R69 for a 1gig prepaid account (it carriers over for 12 months, and u can top it up as and when u like) It uses the IS backbone. and as a bonus 5pm - 7am is unshaped, so even faster gamming in the evening woot woot :)
changed my router to the new account... Eve works great.

Well so far Axxess hasn't really helped. Been dropped twice already. Only difference now is that with Axxess it's happening every 15 minutes whereas with Telkom it was happening every 3 minutes, so slight improvement. I still can't risk PVP with a 15 min time-limit though, I've lost one ship already today.
