I am tired of seeing players with 5 or 6 accounts mining at the same time. You don't need 5 or 6 accounts for running level 4 missions. Why miners do?

You don't NEED 5 or 6 accounts to mine, but if you have 5 or 6 accounts all mining at the same time, then that's 5 or 6 times the amount of ore yield.
CCP needs to prevent multiple logins on the same comp.
This would also fix falcon alt's, covops alts and other craptastic stuff like this. |

There is a difference between a macro miner and someone who does mining with multiple accounts. There is nothing wrong with someone mining with multiple accounts and look at it this way, if they couldnt't then that would be alot less income for CCP, meaning a crappier game for everyone long term as less money is spent.
Whoever said about falcon alts, cov ops alts and other crap like that, STFU, dont like other people using falcon alts then get your own to counter it, simple.

Help me understand what's driving this complaint. Are you competing for ore in the belts? If so, find another belt. Are these mining groups cleaning out belts in 1.0 space? If so, that's pretty puny of them, and shows a lack of fairness in judgement; not a problem with game construct.
This is the same complaint I used to hear in other MMORPG's. Only with them, the complaints were from group members when the healer and tank both died because the user boxing them had a computer crash, resulting in a wipe. Or in a similar situation, when the group activity was complete, a single human player got the lion's share of the split because he/she was boxing several of the group's characters.
With mining, neither one of these is the case; it can be social or nonsocial with little impact either way. Mining with boxed characters does little to actually hurt the game. In fact, it may keep the game running and balanced in more ways than we understand. Minerals are needed for ships, modules, and ammo. Modules and ammo drop from missions and ratting. They can be used or reprocessed. The minerals for ship building can be gotten by mining, or reprocessing. Some even buy ships simply to reprocess and place the minerals on the market. A large number of players that buy ships actually fly them or hangar them. The more people that keep ships, the less minerals on the market from reprocessing, and the more mining is needed. Additionally, the less minerals on the market, the higher their prices, and those of the ships they produce. At least that's what I've observed in my short 2 or 3 month playtime in Eve.
If you wanna pay more for the stuff you use, then pursue your complaint. I'll keep boxing a miner and hauler combo while you do.

Your definition of macro mining needs to be cleared.
A person using 5-6 accounts on the same computer is more than likely not macromining unless they themselves have written some complex program that can coordinate it all.
Macromining is a player using a program to automatically mine.
I think your mistaking that for a player who uses multiple accounts to make mining more time efficient. |

Problem being there is fundamentally no difference between running 6 accounts simultaneously and just getting six computers and if necessary, six friends to run the accounts during the day with a lure of beer, tunes, movies and times thanks to the largely AFK nature of mining,,, and six people around the world doing a mining op.

For those that are a bit short on reading comprehension skills (AKA: everyone above me in this thread - granted the OP's choice of thread title didn't help), the OP is pointing out that to make the same high-sec income from mining as you can get from missions, you need 5-6 accounts. 1 account mining in high-sec is an exercise in futility - and before anyone chimes in with their 60 I.Q. wisdom - even if you mine with others the income per player is still pathetic.
To be honest, I couldn't give a toss about the problem, just pointing out that you clowns need to learn how to read before responding with your intellectually-challenged quips. |

Oh yeah - that sounds like a brilliant business plan for a company selling game accounts. Stop people from using more than one at a time. All those people with more than one account go out and buy multiple computers, they definitely won't just cancel 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 of their accounts.
Great idea! CCP will be implementing this idea really quick - it will save them having all that pesky revenue lying around for things like staff wages. ______________________ Isn't it time you learned to fight back? Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University.

Alot of people I know use 2+ machines + synergy for their falcon alts etc.
CCP do supposedly prevent any real account from logging in at the same time as a trial account. But one suspects their revenue would dive if they actually prevented logging in twice on the same machine. Because it's just not used for miners / PvPers. A lot of people use their other accounts for trade or being in two places at once (ie, to do something else while waiting for a fleet to form etc). _____________________________

Argument: stopping multiaccounting would hurt CCP's income. Counter-argument: if that much of EVE's live and actively subscribed player is base is actually alts, that's really kind of sad. Everytime someone posts up a 'what do I do in EVE?' or "I'm new where do I go from here?" question, most of the regular forum posters immediately chime in with stuff about how EVE is a multiplayer game, and you should join a corp and make friends...when apparently what this really translates to is: you should create a corp and _make_ friends by creating additional accounts to play with. The second M now stands for Multi-accounting, not multi-player.
Argument: I can't rely/get/find other people to do what I want when I want. Counter-argument: So, is it really that important that you have to pay more money to do it? As for I can't ask someone I know to cyno/scout/haul for me - what happened to mutual co-operation? If your fellow corp members want the benefits of having your capitals then they should be prepared to lend a hand when asked, really.
Argument: I run 6 hulks and a hauler to make ISK mining. Counter-argument: Dude - ffs. You want money THAT bad, sell the 6 extra GTCs you're using for ISK. It'll be more, quicker and you won't have to spend all that time mining with your 7 accounts, which given the argument for multi-mining always seems to be "mining is boring" must be Dull^6, surely?
Essentially, most of the arguments in favour of multi-accounting and multi-boxing seem to revolve around player laziness and a desire for (insert X objective here) NOW! not next month. And yes, CCP probably are cackling all the way to the bank. At least until they get there and remember it's a bank in Iceland....
I don't have an issue with multi-accounting, per se, but I won't do it; same as I won't sell GTCs for ISK - because it strikes me as a lazier way to play. And if you absolutely have to sell GTCs to fund your PVP or anything...then something somewhere needs adjusting. You really shouldn't _have_ to pay extra real money to play successfully. I really wish CCP would let you train your 2 other characters simultaneously, even if you can't log them in at the same time. Because multi-accounting should be to allow you try out other races and other careers, not to replace other players.
You may now...flame. |

If you are so damn jealous get yourself another account or 2, or stop whining
EDIT: I am 100% against macrominers, someone using a program to automatically play the game. But if the person is micromanaging 6 accounts I see no problem, whatsoever in doing so. |

Jealous of spending 240$ every two months? erm...no.
Why is it every time anyone so much as suggests that multi-accounting is in any way 'bad' the first thing flung at them is the old jealousy nonsense. No, I'm not jealous of you being so obsessed about 'winning' in a game with no fixed goals and no levels you feel a need to pay more money to do so...

What GTCs? I pay for all of my accounts with isk. Haven't paid real money since I became successful, and that's by running 3 miners and doing missions amongst other stuff. If you were making so little from mining that you still had to pay real money to play then there is something wrong with your mining lasers. Take them back and get new ones.
Mining is profitable, end of story. It might not be as profitable as running level 4s but I can't relax and read a book while I'm running level 4s I have to be alert and constantly looking at the screen but if I want to relax while still making good money I can set my ship up at an ice/ore belt grab a cuppa and put my feet up.
As for macros, well until we see some real progress in the detection of these bots there will be little that will change. -

Personally I think that if you pay the money for the account, whether in ISK or $ that you have the write to play on it. That being said, If I'm playing on multiple accounts, I'm taking an added deduction in my pay to play on more then one account, and therefore I should reap the benefits of doing so.
I'm brand new to the game, but I've ran multiple accounts on other MMO's, whether it be from two computers or the same one (since I dual screen). I'm running two accounts right now - one hauler, one miner and seems to be working just fine and I don't consider it cheating in anyway, just taking advantage of the resources given to me. |

i run three accounts simultaneousely. for many purposes. I mine, I mission, I've dual cliented in PvP. I also often have a trade alt fly here or there. While my main is roaming 0.0 and one of my alts is managing some research or manufacturing jobs.
I'm a manufacturer, Pvper, Miner, Reasearcher, Carebear, Pirate, Missioner, Explorer, and just about all the other professions in eve. I spent the years setting up all of my accounts to be proficient at almost everything. I mine with multiple accounts because I build things. I play by the OP's rules and I lose a competitive edge becuase I can't amass the minerals for my projects fast enough. I'm also in a corp with many other pilots that mine with multiple accounts. Why? You ask...
Because guess what, there is a real world out there. I have a RL, believe it or not. And spending three times as long to get the minerals i need is just plain stupid. I have corp members that help me. But sometimes I need to move a dread/carrier at 2am PST, not a lot of people from New York, Scotland or etc are online then, because they have real lives too.
And dont give me that crap about recruiting more people so people are always online. I like the guys in my corp, they like being in my corp and there's a reason the majority of eve is not in my corp. We like out group the way it is.
On Macromining: ALL OF YOU DIE!
On Multi Account Mining: Managing multiple accounts is a lot of work. So dont give me that crap about it not being fair. If you have 6 hulks, 1 orca and 2 haulers, ur managing 18 Mining Lasers, and running ore from 6 accounts then into the cargobays of 2 haulers, Micromanaging that is overkill in my opinion, but if someone is that damn Hardcore... They deserve the higher mineral efficiency.
Besides there are a lot of things in eve. And if you say "I just like to mine" you my friend are an idiot. I dont believe that anyone only wants to do one thing everytime they log into eve. I dont mine everyday, or mission, or pvp, or any of one thing. I often do them all or a few different ones. So getting people in your corp to mine with you becuase ur in the mood to isn't usually going to happen.
When I start mining, the guys may come and help out, but the majority of the time they are off doing their own things, playing the game how they want to.

I dont really have much of a problem with mining on 1 account, even if its in lowsec space less traveled. I just switch my attention every now and then. Also i dont really see how people manage 6 or 7 accounts all at once but ill leave that to those who can XD. I think this thread is one of the stupid complaints that alot of people make in this game, how other people play the game. I havnt seen people care so much about how others play this game legally before Oo.

likewise, i run three accounts simultaneously - for the exact reason McFly pointed out in his second to last paragraph. This might be a MMOG and i do dearly love player corporations, except i cannot 'depend' on someone else dropping whatever they're doing to help me do something I'M doing. especially if that involves escorting miners. do you know how BORING it is to play the life of a hauler for a miner? or an escort for such?- With these changes for mining in the pipe brings some hope to me that SOMEDAY i'll be inundated with people wanting to escort my mining vessel to the point i might actually consider training mining drones V instead of Combat drone V. (which i do myself because i'd hate to ask someone to do something onerous)
- hell, and being a hauler for a miner is not only frustrating but unrewarding. hopefully the orca will spice up the mining support group by reducing the load on haulers, which would actually make the 'indy' business a much more satisfying career than the mind numbing one it is now. (which i do myself because i'd hate to ask someone to do something onerous)
- And since my foreman skill module is null and void while warping (and my foreman bonus entirely nullified if i dock/leave system) that means i'm tying down someone in a battlecruiser who isn't contributing anything but a glorified honour tanker to the group. (which i do myself because i'd hate to ask someone to do something onerous)
let's not even forget about the advantage to owning a scout while transiting low sec. That alone has saved me untold fortunes. |

I usually run level 4 missions with three or more friends. I tank, they spank, the missions are completed much faster and I get to my storyline missions quicker. One day, when both my alt and I are flying marauders, I'll have two level 4 missions going simultaneously. Until then AFK mining is the best ISK income per second spent actually at the keyboard.
I don't want mining to be more interesting. I don't want mining to require more interaction with the game. I really like mining the way it is right now, thank you very much.

Originally by: Diziet Coderusa Argument: stopping multiaccounting would hurt CCP's income.

Just because you employ yourself 6^+, scout and jam for yourself doesn't mean the game should be built upon it/endorse it.
TBH, I could give a rats ass whether or not CCP would lose money. I would rather play with 7k players on one account, than 34k people running multiple accounts. All-in-all, its still one person. First off Not a good arguement , second how the hell did you throw Bush and ****** into the mix? Really? Anyways Macro miners are a pest and hopefully with the changes CCP "will be" adding to Mining it will make Script mining impossible or very difficult. BUT! owning multiple accounts and having them active at one, will NEVEr EVER to removed as a feature of Eve. My advice is to do your research before joining a online game, to see if this feature that you do not agree with exist ingame, before you pay and invest time into it. Get over it really, either you are not smart enough to figure out that it won't dissapear , or your just here to whine about it becusae of a personal grudge. That goes to the Orginal poster of this Topic who has stayed very silent. Its part of the Game.

Allow me to educate you a bit.
Hedge funds (private investment funds open to a limited range of investors) have been dumping their commodities for months now in the face of redemption, which have helped lower oil and gas prices along with lowered demand worldwide...
... just don't get used to it. Demand will be back up soon, along with oil companies cutting production.
Bush has nothing to do with gas prices going up or down. And no conspiracy theory is going to change that.

I dont know you - but my time is to expensive to mine with only one ship. The same with mission - No. 1 kills the rat and No. 2 does the salvage.
As long as its not a Macrominer, then i dont care how many accounts one player have. Its better to have it open, then try to do some restrictions that wont work (like just one client per PC - you can buy two PC, use VMs..)

Besides this being completely derailed.....
u guys do realize that if u cut all the mining alts out of eve, there wouldn't be a lot of mining going on. And what happens when the Mineral Supply dries up? Oh that's right, prices soar and no one can build anything... Everyone starts trying to mine themselves but an abaddon with 8 lasers just doesn't cut it...
We play a game in an economy dependant on the current status quo of minerals being mined. If the OP had his way I would guess based on experience Mineral Supply would be cut down 55-65%. I say that becuase a lot of people like me have a maxed out Mining Director, If I can only run one account, it would have to be a hulk and not a command ship/orca. I dont mine for my corporation, I mine for my manufacturing. U slow everyone down and prices on everything from ammo, to ships will soar, people will actually be doing missions for the ammo that drops.
In all honesty the eve economy is too dependant on the flow of minerals at it's current volume being moved.
Originally by: Chrono Homega You don't need 5 or 6 accounts for running level 4 missions. Why miners do?
Because mining isn't about making isk for most people. It's about getting the resources for manufacturing which makes them isk. And if you manufacture a lot of stuff, and dont like to pay for trit when u can mine it, multiple accounts is the same as blobbing, the more mining lasers the better.

If CCP takes away from the miners then they need to take away from the missioners also! I started with 1 acct and now I'm upto 3, & after the first of the year I'll probly have 4. I can run 3 with no problems and I've mined that way. I aint saying there aint no macro miners out there but, you must be buying all your **** from only NPC's but I doubt it.
With 1 miner cant mine enough ore to keep up with the making of anything that's in EVE. Thats why alot of us are going to several acct's, I know I've tried and cant so I got 2 mining accts and 1 hauler.
All I'm saying is if they are going to mess with us miners, they also need to stick it to the missioners also. |

I have to interject here.. The trouble seems to be that everyone defines their terms differently.. the topic itself "macromining" is charged but means different things to different people. To some macromining is synonymous with AFK mining. To others and apparently the op in this case, macromining means using more than one account at the same time. To still others macrominers are parties who collect game resources for sale outside the game.
Now, CCP has already said there is nothing wrong with having more than one account they actively promote multiboxing for the game. For those that have more than one account and wish to have both accounts logged in at the same time, there is no need to use a macro in any way to mine, to haul, to fight, or even to just hang out in the station and daytrade. If you are spending money on two accounts and you want to mine with both at the same time what's the trouble?
Only one thing that I can see is that it bothers others that are not pulling in the same amount as the two characters you own. This is just the way it is though; no matter who you are there is always someone who will be able to out do you. Heck, if we couldn't have two account there would still be someone with more time and skill making more money than anyone else. I feel like this is not a significant issue.
Then there are those who use macros to afk mine.. or those who harvest for out of game sales. These folks raise my ire and to me are not in the same catagory as multiboxers. The thing that bothers me the most is these folks are not playing the game to enjoy it; the AFKer isn't playing at all. I don't know what can be done to stop these people.. disallowing multi-accounts on the same computer would be usless to fight them.. there are those that have farming sweat shops. In fact, selling isk outside the game doesn't even require a macro of any kind.. just many folk to work for you.
Anyway, I don't aggree with the original poster; how can anyone tell that those 6 ships are being piloted by one person anyway? What, because they don't talk to you? So what. I don't respond to a lot of folk who chat me either. How can you tell that the hulk that is sitting in a belt not mining is being multiboxed? I submit you cannot. Mining is boring at times.. and even I have fallen asleep at the wheel more than once.
So yes something needs to be done to stop out of game sales.. and by all means lets fight against macros that make afk play possible. but I'm afraid you're driving against traffic wanting to stop multiboxing all together. |

well - there is only one definition of "macromining" - when you use a Macro to controll the ships and not doing by yourself. It has nothing to do with multiple accounts.

sorry, what issue is there with having multiple accnts. I have two myself, not for running a scout for myself or jamming ship or anything like that. Yes the two accnts interact at times. But really the second one came about because I simply cant train an "alt" while my main keeps doing what it's supposed to, and yes, i'm more willing to pay an extra subscription a month than reduce the training time on my main character (which as we know, not only can take months, but years for long term plans) for a little side affair for a couple hours a week.
Also yes, i realize i'm playing an mmo, but I am not a terribly social person, I do not make friends easily at all. Finding someone to play with, that isn't going to grate on my nerves tomorrow is not an easy thing for me to do, so for the rare occasion I do need a little hand I do have it. But for the most part the interaction is limited to building my ammo and finding a site. Being able to experience the combat side of eve AND the industrial/production side w/o having to in effect double my precious training time is worth the extra subscription to me.
