So, the voting for the CSM is underway, yet there's no sign of it in the home page of the site. No banner on the right column for forum readers to see either. If you go to the CSM section (clicking "CSM" on the left column) there's not much information about the voting, other than the candidates. Only a sticky on the Information Portal forum and the Dev blogs about it.
It would be nice to have more info, like the percentage of the playes that already voted (I did ), the dates, etc. You have to go to this dev blog to find out that you have time until November, 21st.
Seeing that there are many questions around, specially since the Quantum Rise deployment, and that the CSM is one of the best opportunities the players have to make their voice heard by CCP (better than what many people think,) I believe it's important to make the players aware of what's going on with the CSM and the voting.
I'd prefer to see CSM candidates debate about current issues in the Jita Park forum than see too many whining threads about the same subjects in General Discussion... |

The CSM is too important to throw uninformed votes.

Is there any way to see the running trends in voting as it stands, prior to the final stats on the 21st?
We do that for every other election, a by the minute examination of poll statistics.
Just a thought... I've already voted.

That sort of coverage taints elections by suppressing votes for people who aren't currently in the lead. I'm glad CCP has done what the real world media can't seem to do - let the people vote without trying to influence them.

How large should it be?
I don't know about you. But I do empire industrial operations with a POS, I do low-sec piracy and from time to time I head into 0.0 and shoot at some people or go carebearing with exploration/missions. I have even spent hours defending a POS and campaign a gate.

I abstained last time, but that is counted as a vote so this time none of my accounts shall be casting any kind vote, which is sadly the closest we can come to a vote to dissolve the CSM.
I won't deny things were achieved by the CSM, but ( each of them are things that could, and in my opinion should, have been achieved by the reading the forums, the devs asking for specific feedback and ideas, and threads like that fantastic initiative by Zulupark.
It is, in my personal opinion, at best a publicity stunt, at worst, a distraction.

There are people running that fall into that category, but there also are those that genuinely believe into making Eve better for everyone. I personally don't have an agenda myself, and I certainly support issues that go way beyond my personal playstyle or interests. People might call me a carebear for opposing suicide ganking, but the truth is that I was never affected by suicide ganking myself, and I raised this issue due to concern over the overall game balance.
Same goes with other issues. I went to do things that I would never do otherwise, to learn about other aspects of the game. I specialized in Factional Warfare, and on the current CSM I raised a few issues regarding FW, even though I'm not a PVPer myself. I went to 0.0 and low-sec to learn about small gang warfare and piracy, which are other important aspects of the game I never touched beforehand.
When discussing missions, exploration and industry I tried to integrate as many views as possible, resulting in unbiased issue documents. I treat the CSM as a job, and I don't even have the time to play Eve for myself, let alone have somekind of personal agenda or need to boost my ego.
Last CSM we had Dierdra Vaal from the Eve University, he wrote a whole document about bounty hunting, which is not exactly E-Uni's pet issue either, right? I'm sure that there are other candidates running in this election that feel the same, you just have to get out of your mind and look for them. |

You are not even trying to be objective but instead list all your personal ideas for all the different areas, trying to please everyone with unreflected ideas, disregarding feasibility. You are offering single solutions for general issues instead of collecting solutions, a random brainstorm instead of an attempt at analyzing the issues.
That's where your scope is limited. |

Thank you for your feedback. However, there are some things I do not feel you picked up on from the OP:
1. That my main platform is that of my principles first:
Quote: I offer myself as a principled candidate û with my core principles including:
*An evidence-based approach: hard facts > hard opinion *Open-minded and ready to listen to feedback or advice: Nobody is infallible (including myself!) *Proportional attention to different aspects of EVE online: Keep the bigger picture in mind *Aim to keep Eve fun: make things simpler if there is no reason for it to be difficult
2. That, while I may have a lot of ideas, that even I mention are currently half-baked, my approach is to see that good, supported ideas receive fair attention - taking into account different aspects of the game:
Quote: While I do have many ideas as to how Eve can be improved (several of which will be linked later on), I feel that it is best to appreciate the general direction the game ought to go, rather than remain transfixed to a small number of specific issues. IÆm not running for CSM to force half-baked ideas onto the community û IÆm running for CSM to see good, supported ideas in various fields receive fair attention. With Eve being such a huge game that is played in such various ways, to tie oneÆs self down to a mere handful of issues would not do it justice.
3. Regarding being objective and how this is probably out of place in a game setting:
Tell me, how can one be objective in the context that we're working in? How can something objectively be 'fun'? Are there statutes defining enjoying as an objective experience? You make it sound like being empirically objective comes naturally. If one could be objective, that would imply that there were a right or wrong way about how Eve should be designed or thought through. I can't agree with you on that basis, I will not choose to view Eve in a concrete black/white format. There are opinions out there and it is the final result of these opinions that impact the interpretation of the facts - at every level, which eventually decide where Eve will go.
4. Re: offering single solutions and brainstorm - I refer you to my principle of fallibility that I mentioned in the OP - that I admit that many ideas that people, including myself come up with may not practical. However, as they said at the CCP panel - a good idea may invariably start as a bad idea. With that in mind, I don't try to stifle my ideas, rather bring them out for discussion and feedback. Many problems don't have obvious solutions, and demonstrating that you are willing to attempt to solve them with an open mind is part of the process in my opinion.

With under a day of voting left, you should think about voting if you haven't already done so. I firmly believe that the CSM can make a difference in the longer term for players and helping to get player ideas to CCP for development. I'm committed to maiing it work, as are many other candidates running. Take the time to read what they are wanting to do, decide if they are running for the right reasons- but most importantly, vote for players that aren't running to catch CCP's eye for a job...
Take care, Arithron Vote Arithron for CSM! Check out my thread: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=899358 |

Some have absolutely no stand, issues, or information whatsoever and are just taking up ballot space. Others look like bad MySpace clones discussing their personal life, RL hobbies, physical description and everything yet nothing of EvE is mentioned. And the few that are sticking to the subject are listing EvE issues that I just don't care about.
All and all, none of the candidates give a damn about the learning cliff and entrance bar to EvE Online. So none get my vote. ___________________________________________________ The Escapist: EvE Online video review. |

I'm sorry you feel that way. Personally, I think we have a fair amount of wonderful candidates that I would be most honored to serve with if I am elected, and who I would not mind being beaten by if I am not elected.
I'm also of the opinion that I'm a step or two up from terrible, but what can I say.
Originally by: Cyprus Black Some have absolutely no stand, issues, or information whatsoever and are just taking up ballot space. I often wonder why CCP let these people on the ballot in the first place. They stand for nothing, have nothing to say, and have zero interest in fulfilling the CSM role.
Other candidates look like bad MySpace clones discussing their personal life, RL hobbies, physical description and everything else yet nothing of EvE is mentioned. One would think they're running in a popularity contest.
Hey, that's democracy for you.
Originally by: Cyprus Black And the few candidates that are sticking to the subject are listing EvE issues that I just don't care about. Petty bickering of minor issues that really have little to no bearing on the game.
Given the wide diversity of issues candidates are campaigning about, I can only say that you must have a rather narrow band of issues you care about.
Eve is anything but narrow. Change one thing or another, and you will have bearing on the game, and on many other issues besides what you were directly addressing -- and many of things candidates have been discussing could hardly be said to affect the game in only minor ways.
Originally by: Cyprus Black All in all, none of the candidates give a damn about the learning cliff and entrance bar to EvE Online. An issue that should have been addressed and solved a long time ago. An issue that directly hurts CCPs wallet.
I must beg to differ here. I have indeed talked about lowering of barriers to new players (though admittedly most of the things I mentioned related to specific cases rather than in general), and it is an issue I certainly care about, since my alt is a member of Eve University, the largest player run corporation in Eve that has teaching new players as its primary goal.
Originally by: Cyprus Black So no. None of these jokers get my vote.
I'm sorry to hear that. But I guess that's your right. I don't see you running, though, if you don't think any of the current candidates are worthy.

Since voting is already over, and all votes were electronic, expressed on a single site... ...would it be too much to ask for results as soon as the voting closed ?

Translation : when do we get to see the results ?

Originally by: Abrazzar Had to abstain because none of the candidates has a large enough scope of view. Too petty, so no one.
How large should it be?
I don't know about you. But I do empire industrial operations with a POS, I do low-sec piracy and from time to time I head into 0.0 and shoot at some people or go carebearing with exploration/missions. I have even spent hours defending a POS and campaign a gate.
How much of a bigger scope of view is there to get?
It's not what you do it's what you think.

Keep in mind CCP does have a few things to do before verifying and certifying the results.
1) Ensure that Diebold machines played no part in voting. 2) Doublecheck all documentation provided by winning candidate. Can't have a CSM member that isn't legally allowed to travel to Iceland. Although I think maybe they should host quarterly meetings, rotating through their offices in Iceland, England, the US, and China. (Wouldn't that be a pain in the butt to set up? :) ) 3) Have to review server logs for evidence that proves votes are eligible for reimbursement legitimate and untampered. (They won't find anything.)

The suspense! It's killing me!
. . . I have a nice alcoholic beverage here, and I need to know if I should be drinking it in celebration or in consolation.
