Im not an explorer but youll not see astreoids on scan result to my knowledge ,just magnetometric /gravimetric etc sites and astroids in them.iirc sites were spawning around 4Au of planets . http://www.eve-tribune.com/index.php?no=2_30&page=5

Originally by: stiget Then, I went out to a 0.5 system to learn how to use them. I spent about two hours doing this. No asteroids showed up on any of my scans. But, there were asteroids in the usual belts. I figure at least one of them should have shown up.
Finally, I launched one of the gravimetric probes in an asteroid belt with a couple dozen asteroids, but nothing showed up. I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

High sec... Kernite is best ore unless you explore.
This is a common mistake. In High sec, the best ore is Veldspar in isk per hour. You gotta remember that you get fewer units of some ores per m3 than others. So, you're gonna make more money mining veldspar because you get more units per cycle. Now, here's the broken part. The best ore in low sec to mine is..... are you ready?..... VELDSPAR. Why would anybody want to mine in low sec? Perhaps a good way to fix the problem would be to add more tritanium to the refined minerals in low sec ores. That should drive down the high tritanium prices and add value to low sec ores at the same time. Without crashing 0.0 ores.
There is one problem with Veldspar though, it's a pain to haul in large numbers. Veldspar may be worth more in raw ISK but the minerals you get from Kernite AND the fact that Kernite roids in m3 size don't deplete as fast as most Veldspar roids (except the really big ones) means Kernite is a much more stable and steady choice. The reduced amount of (more valueable) minerals also means its a lot easier to haul.
Only if you could directly refine the Veldspar in the same system and sell the Trit there AND have enough Veld to avoid having to warp to new belts would it really be worth more.
Also, just because you get more Veldspar per cycle (39k give or take) than Kernite (3.2k give or take) doesn't mean anything for it's value, try mining Mercoxit and find out for yourself ------------------------ Ship Yield Calc Improve Mining |

The value for Veldspar per m3 is higher than that of Kernite based on current mineral prices. The prior poster is correct, though. If you fill up any cargo hauler with Veldspar, the final refine will be roughly 1/3 the hauler volume of Tritanium. 3 hauler loads of Veldspar = 1 hauler load of Trit. It takes roughly 32 hauler loads of Kernite to fill up a hauler of the Mexallon, Isogen, and Tritanium you refine from it.
I've found the exact same thing as he did: if you're mining in a spot where you can refine and sell without having to move the tritanium more than 1 system it is worth mining. If you have to move it more than that, the logistical hassle isn't worth the money. |

I remember mining in my Tormentor way back when and getting about 80m3 per cycle (a minute) now my strip miners get an average of 1500m3 ever 3 minutes sometimes more sometimes less depending on ganging etc. I could fit 2 miner 2's on the tormentor.. a covetor or even a hulk will fit three strip miners..
anyway 20% more for 4500 is way better then 20% more for 160 (80x2). the margins for profit are relative and there is money to be made there. the trouble is that most low sec mining is quite a bit more risky then 0.0.

Well first of all you only Ninja mine .4 for 4 reasons.
1. Jaspet 2. Omber 3. Fat big as houses roids 4. Ratting

totally agree and it's a shame CCP don't see the obvious fix to an obvious problem

he actually didn't MEAN 'mining' in the true sense. i find it laughable CCP can't even understand simple sentence structure. I'm really heartened that CCP "has not had a significant impact on" my morale

1. Worthless 2. Worthless 3. Of questionable value 4. L4s are better assuming no good faction spawns
And #1 and 2 will remain worthless until Iso/Nocx get out of their current hole. I find this unlikely given the massive chunk of the value of most ships that trit makes up.
I'm with the guys who want to make variable grade asteroids, from 1.0's crap roids to 0.0 with some form of super-veldspar that refines to twice its own volume in trit. -------------------- Originally by: Crumplecorn

I would like to see the illegal low-end blast mining crystals make it into the game. Significantly higher yield bonus with the inability to use them in empire. This would start to bring low-sec into the equation a bit. |

1. A raven does not equal one Hulk leave alone two - unless the Hulk forgot to equip strip miners.
2. Low sec specific ore is generally worthless but I will still mine there because there are vast amounts of higher density high security ore in low security. Definitely worthwhile if you can withstand the risk.

It's not as accurate as it once was. Nowadays, its more like 1 Raven + Salvager + Hauler = 2 hulks. The changes to tech 1 loot sizes has seriously slowed down/complicated looting large missions. Before the min compression nerf, you could definitely pull in a LOT of minerals in a short time in a Raven running Level IV's.

Edited by: Pwett on 21/11/2008 17:02:34 Edited by: Pwett on 21/11/2008 16:58:47 The module size changes aren't really all that big of a deal. If you mission smart and salvage the right missions and learn how to keep the salvage clustered, you can generate more minerals, especially low end minerals, in the absolute safety of a level 4 high-sec mission - not to mention the added value of salvage components. When I say Raven, I imply Raven + salvager (properly fitted hurricane is 2,000 m3); just like when I say 2 hulks, I imply 2 hulks + hauler.
When I'm mining in my hulks I can only get the minerals that are available in my section of space. I can't convert the minerals into isk until I either sell or convert them into product and sell the product.
When I mission, I not only get the full spread of minerals (plus salvage), but thanks to bounties and LP, I get paid to mine. The added standing I get with the member corporations also reduces refinery tax and broker fees in affiliated stations.
I stand by my assertion.
/edit: When Megacyte was at its prime I could average around 1 million isk / minute assuming no hostilities and a dedicated hauler with 1 'God mode' hulk (pre-rorqual but not including transport-to-empire time).
In Empire, if you are a smart mission runner, you can average that much isk / hr before you even count minerals without batting an eye. |

I was the one asking that question to him, and yes; while missioning itself doesn't have a huge impact on the mineral market, it DOES have an effect that we'd like to see reduced.
And what of the drone regions, I think it's WAY worse since when the drone regions were introduced, mineral prices plummeted to the bowels of hell together with Basement Cat. |

I mine in a Hulk in .7 to .9 looking exclusively for all Vel. I bump the cargo to 13,005m, use 3 strip miners, 5 mining drones IIs, and can fill up in just under 10 minutes. I take (1) combat drone for npcs. Figure 5 casual loads per hour if you do not jetcan, 0% waste on the refine due to standing, and $1.2M per load or $6M per hour (roughly).
Mining drones pull in some good ore once you get Drone Interfacing to V - 62.5m/drone/minute.
