Tests are skewed since they only test for a certain type of intelligence. That said most tests put me around 130-140.

I tried doing an IQ test once...
It was like 50 pages long, about 5 pages in I lost complete interest and couldn't be bothered with it.
Theeen I'm pretty sure I logged onto EVE and shot at red flashies for a few hours.
Myee.. Flashies.

Exactly, who really gives a **** about their IQ? When it comes down to it we revert back to the 'animals' we evolved from. Fear, instinct and strength would decide this situation.
Einstein would kick my arse in physics, his QI would dwarf mine. Could he walk into my job and do it better than me, no. Intelligence is only relevant to the area where it is applied and correct application takes training.
You may well have an IQ of 158, but without the correct training you couldnĘt tie your own shoelaces.

Einstein actually had a pretty low IQ given his advancement of physics, he was borderline autistic.

actually, people with autism, add, adhd and other similar disorders are actually rather intelligent. i myself have adhd and have always been able to pass exams, even though i never study for them (just dont ask me to do an assignment, i hate them) and i know several people with autism, all of whom are really intelligent despite thier conditions. they all have really great memories and sttention to detail, and learn new things rather quickly, when they are focused. however, both myself, and my autistic friends can be very easily distracted and once distracted, it is really hard to get focused on the task at hand.
i personally think that my adhd is why i was able to learn eve so easily as i never had any problems when i first started other than the usual "wtf do i do know" that comes when you start playing any game for the first time.

Last time I took a test, I got 164 but IQ tests are not indicative of your intelligence as a whole but more your ability to think logically and solve problems.
I know someone who consistently scored high MENSA level scores in every IQ test but he could hardly read or write properly (questions were read out to him BTW). He could solve complex math equations in his head and almost immediately see odd one out and next in the sequence every time. He was autistic, a laugh a minute but needed help just to use a bus to get to town.

Well my uncles and cousins are each over 140 and are both in MENSA. It runs in my mothers side of the family probably from my grandfather.
I should be at or near that level, but after suffering PTSD, several STROKES and nummerous other severe head trauma injuries from accidents as a child/teenager, I have lost a lot of IQ points...
Though i'm still more inteligent than most of the ******s i went to school with...
Though i do suffer serious problems with maths(from crappy education and head injury), I scrapped though level2 and crashed out of level3 maths at college in the 80's. Higher algerbraic functions just mess my head up(please stop making my head hurt[litterly]).
I did do a very long IQ/Personality test in 1994 as part of some stupid job interview but it took forever to complete, and just gave me a severe headache. In the end i wasn't interested in the result or the job. (so i never found out)
i did try one of those short online ones, it came out at about 110, so im definatly more than that...

For no "regular" test I ever took (job-related) was I ever given the results, and I never even tried to join Mensa (no point where I live, less than 100 members in the entire country due to lack of interest and emigration), so all I can go with was self-administered tests, and the things available in writing for a reasonable price aren't much better than those "free" online tests. There's only a few online tests that even list your percentile score (or mention the exact standard deviation the test has so you can calculate the percentile score), therefore I can only guess what my actual IQ is.
Top 3% for sure, possible top 2%.

I didn't say that autism = stupid, which is what you imply, I feel the need to correct this, also, on a 150 point IQ test I vary between 139 and 145, most tests are stupid because, as mentioned, they often only test particular kinds of intelligence, and all tests can be practised for, if you believe MENSA testing system, my mother has an IQ of 208

IQ tests are meaningless. They're not standardized, they're arbitrary, and they attempt to quantify something that is basically impossible to quantify.
I've taken seven different tests over the years, and wound up getting a pretty much uniform distribution of results between 135 and 207.
I don't trust IQs.

Hey, Tarminic's back!
The last time I did an IQ test was in fourth grade (122). I should get another one done, except that I don't really care. ---

one could argue intelligent people don't waste their time getting fat playing pseudosocial internet spaceship games and we are infact all a lot less intelligent than we think.
but no it seems eve online is actually a darwinian socially engineered surivial of the fittest proof of manhood and all other people are lesser 'wow players'.

Actually I do not agree fully. A whole lot of Eve players just run their missions against zombie npc's for isk, do mining, trading or whatever. It doesnt exactly flex those mind muscles... its probably more challenging fighting mobs in WoW actually.
But on the other hand, there is the 0.0 part of Eve, with tactics, combat and strategic decisions. That requires more.

The flipside of that is many may be using their minds all day at work and just want to chill. If they've been programming computers all day, the last thing they want to do is use their brain playing a game.

I've got qualifications coming out of my arse and with a bit of practice can bump up any test score.
Apparently that makes me clever in todays world lol no wonder the planet is ****ed. I refuse to believe people are really that stupid then you meet another... and another... and another... and another.
I pretty much forget everything I learn unless I use it everday. Common sense is why I do well at work. I would take anyone with common sense over high IQ any day of the week.

Does anyone here read the BBC 'Focus' magazine ? The latest issue has an article researching what the most successful people have in common (ie the Beatles, Bill Joy, etc) as well as controlled test groups and it wasn't just a high IQ/ natural talent, it above all else an opportunity to practise.
The magic number is 10,000 hours practising something, whatever it is be it sports, chess, coding whatever, to become an outstanding genius at it.
Research has proven that if the IQ is above 120, it ceases to count for much after that. Practise and dedication to a skill mean much, much more.

iq varys from test to test and also depends if you are in practise or not
i.e. rely on the calculator for even the simplest of calculations because its faster for an extended period of time and your gona see your score slump
similarly you could say your language skills where once great before you came in contact with the internet

That is why Mensa is doing it better with counting in percentiles. The only semi-reliable test I ever day was the national IQ test which aired on TV, and you had to solve a series of questions over the internet. This was composed of different subjects. I recall doing very well on language and logic and failing horribly on the maths part, ending up with an IQ score of 127. This was when I was still in highschool, I suppose it must have gone up a few points but not that much.
Practice is key though, I am currently trying to work on my maths by solving one problem a week. I have always loved reading and puzzles and games, so those get plenty of training already.

The stupid "IQ Tests" that u find online are garbage. You can answer every question right in less than 2 minutes, and the most you'll ever get is like 146. Just advertising gimmicks, not the true stuff.
I did one in Elementary School when i was probably 8 and got 142 i think.

Well, no offense, but if are really so thirsty for knowledge, you could try reading the article in question. I'm sure you could get it posted to you wherever you are in the world.
http://info.bbcfocusmagazine.com/?bbcam=adwds&bbkid=focus+bbc&x=&jtid=70945&client_code=
And if you do that, you can read for yourself how compelling the data is, and it's interpretations. I would be genuinely interested in debating that with you.
Meantime, very sorry to say this, but I'm not sure you can lol when you don't really know what you are talking about. Unless I'm mistaken, and you have in fact read the article?
Originally by: Naomi Wynn Proof is for mathematics.
Now, lets examine this point. Please explain this to my obviously inferior mind. Do you mean to say that if research data and it's interpretations are not based on mathematics, there will always be some aspect of uncertainty?
If I were to embark on a quick research project to test if my cat is alive when I write this post, there must be some aspect of uncertainty unless I can prove it by mathematics?
Do I understand you correctly there?

He means it's impossible to prove anything 100% except mathematical theorems (and lemmas, propositions, corollaries, etc). Physics simply has theories and laws which are a best-fit match to observed data, but that will never preclude the possibility that an entirely different mechanism is causing the same effects. Much of current work in science (at least, the interesting parts) is picking apart previously "proven" facts, subjecting them to bizarre conditions and getting results that current theory says should not happen.
However, with maths you CAN prove things 100%. That's because it's constructed logically from fundamental axioms, and without reliance on real-world stuff. A mathematical theorem is true no matter what universe you're in, and no matter what bizarre conditions you subject it to. ____________________

Originally by: Merriam-Webster
Main Entry: prop+o+si+tion Function: noun Date: 14th century
1 a (1): something offered for consideration or acceptance: proposal ... b: the point to be discussed or maintained in argument usually stated in sentence form near the outset c: a theorem or problem to be demonstrated or performed 2 a: an expression in language or signs of something that can be believed, doubted, or denied or is either true or false b: the objective meaning of a proposition
Either you mean this word in a way that makes it so generalised as to prove my point for me, or you mean it in a purely mathematical way.
In which case, my reply would be this : my cat (the one in this universe) is either alive or dead. There is no in-between. If it is not dead, it is alive. And this is very easily proven by numerous methods. For example, if it was dead it wouldn't need to be fed anymore. And no amount of long words can change this very obvious fact.
It's not really all that complicated now is it.
