Why not be able to walk around your own ship? Or perhaps even board OTHER players ships. Anyone else think this is a good idea, or is it something too big to implement. |

Personally i think CCP needs to allow our ships to WiS as well, It isn't exactly fair otherwise. |

Er, could it be because Eve characters pilot their ships from inside fluid-filled pods, which they never leave until they dock in a station?

When ambulation finally arrives, I wonder how long it will take before clipping issues cause players to fall through the geometry and end up outside in space.

When in space, you are in a POD full of goo with wires and stuff in your head. You just can't walk around. And why would you want to walk around in your ship when you are docked in a station?
And when boarding another ship amd it blows up, you would simply die. No cloning. Permadeath. CCP could change the backstory though and intruduce portable brainscanners or something.
So implementing it would be kinda pointless.

yah, I demand RiS or Rolling in Spaceships where you move around inside your egg like some 'Marble Madness' sub game. Man goes to the doc, with a strawberry growing out of his head. Doc says "I'll give you some cream to put on it." |

Escape shuttles could allow you to "escape" death when on a ship that isn't yours. As soon as the ship blows you are placed in one and it works similar to a pod. Whose to say you couldn't make it to a shuttle before the ship explodes?
as for the goo thing? Once again, who says you can't unplug inside your own ship. Is something in the station needed to unplug you?

I think the better question is why not use the graphics/animations that are provided in WIS so that we can have video chat with other players. Imagine the pirate that sends you a message for ransom. Right now all you see is their static portrait.
But when they deploy WIS you should be able to see a animated avatar of the pirate pilot, complete with animated emotes. I want to be able to transmit back animated emotes to the pirate, either begging emotes or defiant emotes.
I believe they would be able to do this and still keep the "Pilot in pod" backstory, maybe the video chat would be of the pilots head inside the pod and you can see the wires and hair floating inside the fluid.
Imagine what the Eve video creators out there could do with this in making story based videos.
They could even implement it into the PvE side, where the missions have more NPC interaction and storyline with the animated PvE pilots.
Seems like a waste of graphical assets and code if they keep WIS completely station based.

A 20 man gatecamp instapopping the ship say so.

AFAIK a station is needed to unplug the POD. And your ship would be without a pilot if you would leave your POD.
Sure, CCP could implement anything and just alter the backstory. Still, I don't see a point walking around your ship when in space. Nothing to do there. You can't even socialize with your friends like in a station.

Yes! Although it would be optional of course. But they already have the tech going into WIS to make the avatars lips move when eve-voice is used, why not put that to use in the video chat.
And we could finally have NPCs that voice chat to us instead of text chat! Of course, with that wild Icelandic accent.

Some of the backstory has pod pilots leaving their pod to walk around their ships.
To answer the OP's question, I merely need to point to the number of station types, and number of ship types. |

Theres no reason to believe that similar ship types couldn't share ship interiors. Like All amarr cruisers / BC's for instance.
And of course we probably couldnt explore the entirety of the ship, just parts of it. |

i can see why they don't want to allow this while in transit (as it's counter to the lore) but i'd love it if they would allow us to do this while docked up. you could do this with SWG and it really added something, a level of attachment to your ship, that certainly couldn't hurt in EVE |

They are only doing a few stations, doing all of them would take eons. Doing all the ships would take eons more.
Especially considering they aren't doing ALL the station, just the main plaza and some off rooms. That station is meant to hold ****loads, so is your ship. Even a frigate is probably larger than my village in terms of floorspace. |

I'm sure if Rockstar could pull off the simply massive game area that was GTA San Andreas it shouldnt be beyond the realms of possibility for CCP to knock up some spaceship interiors.
I mean their 3D design team have so much to do filling all that empty space with - well. empty space.

I want 2142 to become part of EVE. You know, skill up in using power armor, better guns, shield emitters, nanoreconstructors for your armor and lead your squad in to take over an enemy outpost, where they would have people and/or NPC defending... like titan mode in 2142.
