Come on ccp
There is lag and then there is dirt and some dirt and some more dirt and then here comes the lag there is in eve.
To talk blankly. This **** is to much to take. I cant f..k... belive that you have to turn everything ingame to low details and sound of to get 0.6 fps.
Here are one of many example' i hear on teamspeak. Ice did you just crash ?. I think is he on drugs. i'm still here. 30 sec' later in totalt on 40 sec. my client crashes.
what the hell i'm so slow i'm behind time. no i'm not 40 sec slower than the rest of the world. i from Denmark. not Afghanistan
here is a example more.
Fleet battle we are 30 jumping in om 30. game is going fairly LAGGY but we manage to get distance an keep it (400km) But then the warp in at 110 km stil in the same grid still laggy as hell Congratulation on ur 0.2 fps record. i die from battle ship that is firing fof's wich is at my screen 140 km from so is he just that skilled. no f..k... way. apperently he wasnt that far away.
but enough war stories.
One could say that you guys are working very hard using all your time bla bla bla bla bla.
That aint gonna fly nomore since i've paid about 12 x 13 euros atleast and about 50 euros on the game.
First the game doesnt even match was it says in the manual nor on the box. False advertisement ? whatever. Since i pay for this game i want the lag gone. to say i direkt. i dont give a **** about shiva nor game storie nor tech 2 modules ur working on.
I want to PLAY this game without LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGG. <-- THIS STORIE WAS A HINT
spec on my comp is xp 2000+ 512 mbram ati r9700 pro. 2mbit/128kb dsl line. This computer can play alot of games without the same kind of lags
everybody else who thinks lag is to much. write plz. anybody else who is gonna whine about my comp or whatever shut the **** up.
If what not is, what is ?. |

We just had a large fleet battle in U-QVWD. This is the place where the two above are complaining about.
We had approximately 15 on 15 fleet battle. During the battle I was locked by 8 drones and 3 battleships. My frames immediately went to 0. I double-clicked to warp away and my screen... didnt move. I sat and waited... and waited... turns out I was jammed by an interceptor to warp. My ship is now so laggy that I cant warp out and I cant even tell im warp scrambelled until im at 25% shields.
I finally warped out and came back into the battle. When I came back into the field things were ok until 1 person locked me. When they locked me I dropped to about 5 frames. I commenced fire and tanked the damage from that one ship and continued to engage.
The lag that is currently in EVE during fleet engagements and pvp is so incredible that it is almost drawing some people away from the fights. I am currently running a 256mb video card... so dont tell me its my graphics. Im also running a 2.7ghz P4 with 1024mb ram... so dont tell me its my speed. I run off a cable line 5mb download / 3mb upload... so dont tell me its my connection.
The extra features that CCP is adding is secondary to lag in my opinion. Fix the lag and your current issues, then add more crap that you have to fix later.
There is no reason for this lag... it is simply unbearable and should be fixed.
While your working on it GM's, let me offer you a Tech II Tissue: So is said. |

Please Oveur, there's no point in balancing large scale PvP if the client is unable to handle large scale PvP. Put the missile and drones balancing on hold, and fix this now.
Large fleet battles have become near-unplayable because of this graphic lag.
Warring alliances have initiated cease-fire because the graphic lag was crashing/freezing so many clients that nobody could even move.
The EVE client simply cannot handle large engangements, we all knows this, and as much as CCP likes to blame the problem on other people, this issue needs to get top priority. Whether it's flag information from the scanner, the GUI interface, the lighting effects on the GUI windows, problems with rendering too many objects on screen, too much server-information being sent to the client at one time... just please find out what the problem is, and fix it as soon as you can.
We all would be very grateful if you made large fleet engagements in EVE an enjoyable experience like it should be.

I will do my best to get this issue in front of a dev. I'll also see if I can get some sort of statement about it, that they're aware of it and working on it. If you guys could run the log server before these huge battles that could be helpful. The more you help the devs find the root of the problem the quicker it can get fixed.

Agreed. MMOs have it tough and I understand that CCP has a lot of issues on their plate and that they can't just throw money around. But considering the fact that dont have a huge player base already I think it makes it even more important that they stay ahead on things. If the players want to PVP (and i get the slight impression they do) then while Shiva is going to be cool and important to EVE they also must fix some of these issues.

why don't you ask them to setup a 20v20 war of CA vs SA get us all to run the logserver ccp replaces ships, modules, and they also observe the event they will gather a months worth of logservers from that

Minimum Requirements To play EVE Online, your system must meet these requirements:
- Operating System: Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP
- Processor: Pentium III or higher, 450mhz or higher
- RAM Memory: 128MB (256MB for 2000/XP)
- Sound: Direct Sound Compatible
- 3D Accelerator: Geforce 2. ATI Radeon or better
- Microsoft DirectX 9.0 or higher (included on disc)
Are these requirements to PVP or be ganked like a carebear? Just curious... So is said. |

I agree 100% this is crazy..and i guess it is the minimum specs for maybe mining, or researching..or even building..cos I did all that and never got lagged like when I joined a PvP alliance..I have gone to battle and literally watched the drop from warp to the battle lock for at least 30-40 seconds....dropped to a screen of missiles...no ships...then 20-30 seconds later I see ships..of which 4 or 5 are targeting me and my shields are gone, armor at 50% or less...next thing i see is "ship out of control" then i wake in a new clone...surprisingly lag free finally. For this I pay for 3 accounts per month? I really dont want to go back to being a carebear..plz fix this plz :)

Well i dont have any problem with graphics lag in eve, but i do get alot of normal lag, mainly because im on 56k and a crap phone line, so i know that im the one lagging not the server, but have you considered maybe your video cards are too good and new for eve, im on a radeon 9800 -se- and have got no graphic lag, i know its not and old card but it isnt too new either, maybe the eve client has a certain problem with something in newer video cards, also have you guys tried changing the screen resolution?
Anyway just my 2 cents, im a bit annoyed atm because my char seems to be stuck invisable outside a jumpgate lol

I don't have the best connection (isdn64k) but, since this last patch my lag during combat has been atrocious. When I started, I could fight in small fleet battles & small engagements with no noticeable slowdown, but since the last patch if I engage one other frigate, with nobody else in the system & few people on the server, my modules take 5 - 10seconds to activate & my ship starts jumping around all over the place. I've heard loads of people say they're willing to setup test battles, all we need to know is that someone from CCP is actually going to be paying attention.

Given that this game has been around for over a year now i would be majorly concerned not only with the massive lag during battles, but with the number of exceptions being generated throughout the game when doing just the most mundane of tasks like opening a window..
I would suggest the developers of eve might actually want to do some serious testing on patches and releases before the deploy them to the gaming world.
If you want evidence of this.. ask any eve player too look in there log folder.. I've been playing a little over a week now and i have over 30 text log documents with more than 1 exception in each of them. I'd say that was pretty dire!

Correct me if i am wrong but wasn't the new castor patch meant to solve this lag problem?? if yes then i don't see any changes at all. Right now i prefer mining to combat. ================================================== Its not the size of dog in the fight but the size of fight in the dog which matters ================================================== |

I usually try to avoid fleetbattles, but lag strucks sometimes anyway. I have a friend he was playing on modem line before and he didn't experience more lag then me. This points to a server preformance issue, not local isp's.

The server issues at the moment go way beyond fleet battles. Even mining is becoming increasingly awkward and tedious with corp members getting booted, stuck and unable to open/gain access to cans. All we try and do is get together on a sunday evening (peak time, i know) and do a little bit of quiet mining whilst having a bit of banter. This has not been possible for the last month *at least*. Needless to say I am having to work very hard to derive enjoyment from this game at the moment and I am now on the brink of cancelling my account even though I am an EVE-addict.
Quite frankly, there is no point in investing more of my time and effort for a game that, although great in concept, is desperately flawed at hardware and software level.
Please CCP, could you at least issue some kind of statement admitting knowledge of the poor performance issues and an assurance that you are dedicating more resources to fixing it than making the graphics prettier or tweaking combat stats/systems. Surely, all that can come later once we have a stable base to build on.

Question did anyone do the Frigate March earlier this year? I did, there were a hell of a lotta other players that did too, when we were all i the same system the lag was noticeable, but we are talking 200+ ships flying round a station. Even tho the lag was noticeable, you could still fly about with, ease, even gate jumping wasnt a problem. What has changed in eve to cause it to lag like a ***** now?

Lag for me isn't a problem, I just log on change my skill and log off, it takes me so long to get out of the station that I don't bother with the rest of the lag - sorry game. :-) Don't try to be a great man, just be a man and let history make it's own judgements.

CCP: Obviously you realize that this is a problem from the posts here, even though they are few. Perhaps its time that you start working to correct it for us. I am fully prepared to wait a few more months for player owned crap if you could just fix the problems we have now. Fixing these small problems would mean a crapload to everyone that plays. So is said. |

Right, I agree, this lag is bull****. I was in the middle of a kill mission, which was a bit difficult but I was almost finished. Then the game decides to slow down to frame-by-frame... no, more like 0.2 frames a second. It was ridiculous, and I lost my ship and some good named equipment because of it. Fix the random lag... |

So far we ve had a lot of problems with this game, but no real way to push through our complaints.
All one hears is "stop playing if you dont like it" and other $hite like this. I suggest we find a way to voice our opinion better, unless CCP hears us soon.
Anyone with me ? I m willing to build a site and -given a few ppl help me with a few hours of their time a week - find a way to at least TRY making them listen.
I m thinkin a top list of bugs, with FIX date, state and so on posted on the site. Maybe also a way to find out how many ppl wanna see some things changed by a simple vote and such.
If a site doing constructive critiszm like this exists already, please apologize and point me to it.
Cheers so far, IOI

i doubt that would help. i do think that a mass walkout would show them what people are taking about.
or a login strike. something they will feel, and not have to see.
for example: on a ceartai day, on a ceartain time, make tranquillity be with 10 players logged MAX.
or, i'm sure that even 10 people canceling their subscription would get their attention. im willing to stop my pay for a while just for lagless play later for me and other players.. anybody else? -Orky |

Ok forget the post i posted earlier, i was wrong, CPU/Video Lag is no problem for me, but ****ing hell has it become hard to do anything in eve, im getting sick of watching my sheilds drop drop gone, armor drop drop, and i cant do anything, i cant move, warp, shoot, use sheild boosters, i have to quickly log off before i die, and its getting worse, like today it took about ten minutes before it updated one of my ships name's.... even this forum is buggy like i click reply and it refreshes the page, so i have to clikc it madly 1000 times to get this reply screen up
The lag is getting worse with each patch.

ORC A --a good suggestion - however NOT logging in will be welcome to CCP as it ll put less strain on the servers while we still pay for the subscription. So no option really to "poke em" with that.
Then--cancelling subscription..hmm..yes if we had some 100+ leaving at the same time this may get their attention. But we want all to play this game, so rather no real option again.
Then--In Ultima Online there were player marches and gathering at places to get attention and demonstrate and somesuch, but CCPs policy clearly states that this is not acceptable as you would wantonly put a strain on the servers. Not that I really want to defend their VERY very restrictive policy here, but I try following the rules ;(
http://www.eve-online.com/pnp/banning.asp 1. EXPLOITS
An immediate permanent ban of an account may result if: ... d. A player has engaged in activity that intentionally causes others to lose connection, suffer latency issues (lag) or to crash to desktop (CTD). ...
http://www.eve-online.com/pnp/terms.asp EVE Online TERMS OF SERVICE ... 16. You may not engage in any activity that increases the difficulty and/or expense of CCP in maintaining the EVE Online client, server, web site or other services for the benefit and enjoyment of all its users. ... 25. We reserve the right to ban any user from the game without refund or compensation. ...
So ..as we all agree to these nice rules herein.. I think this is no option either --or some of us would just get banned..

Edited by: Fortior on 15/07/2004 12:07:23 This is not a server side issue, nor is it connection. There have been posts of people who experience this lag with T3-connections. So instead I strongly suspect that it's the fact that EVE renders _all_ ship models in the grid, regardless of whether they're in visible range or not. Having a fleet battle with 150+ ships will bring any comp to its knees. The models, and texturing, in EVE is pretty complex and rendering all of the ships is probably what causes the lag.
A simple solution to this would be that the EVE-client won't render ships unless they are within 30-40k or so. Then you won't be lagged by ships that are 100k away as you are now.
That is if the lag is indeed caused by the client rendering everything. |

Edited by: Sabadagus on 18/07/2004 20:47:00 I have an old system but dont like to upgrade for Eve until I know what are the REAL requirements for enjoyable Eve. I have heard of low end systems doing good and some new hig end systems being bad. That doesnt make sence.
It would be nice if people could list theyre systems and fps (Shift+Contr+Alt+m)so we can see what kind of systems work and which dont. And what in the system is the botleneck.
For example, my system Win XP, 800mHz, 384 MB, Ati 9600SE 128MB, ADSL
.......................WithGUI..........NoGUI In station.............20...............100 Fightin NPC in belt....2-7..............2-12 PvP....................no way...........no way
fps is in my case not affected by adjusting the graphic detail, screen resolution or any other factors I have tryed.

I got the shiiite lagged out of me In a2 wasnt even a fleet battle 1 raven 1 apoc and 2 moas lagged my apoc to death I couldnt even double click jump out in my pod now I am not sure wither this is a missile issue or a gate issue as the CA boys were going backwards and forwards through the gates (but I am pretty sure it was just to keepl being cloaked) but as soon as the missiles opened up all hell broke loose fps wise

I've lost two ships due to lag issues, as in the screen suddenly freezing and nothing happening, then my ship moving forwards really fast as six missiles exploded near me. Oh yes, that was fun
I think the worse time was when it lagged while I was being podded, at which point I could still see my ship despite floating in a pod. My ship took a few seconds to blow up before my pod warped. Weird and very annoying.
