Yuu have to be a bit more specific on what type of support you are interested in.
If it's Warfare Links which give passive buffs to your gang then you want to get a Fleet Command Ship. For Minmatar this means the Claymore.
The you need to get most skills in the Leadership Category. You can focus on one specialization if you want but long term you probably want them all (or all but information warfare at least).
If you just want to upgrade from the hyena then you should take a look at the Huginn and Rapier. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Information Warfare is less obvious than the others, but is probably the second best after Skirmish in PvP.
However I agree that really you want them all.

If you are limited to minmatar vessels then using the hyena is a good choice. It can get expensive really fast though.
Other ships that might be worth it are the lowly Vigil or Bellicose for target painting, Rifter or Interceptors for tackling (gangs always need more tackle) etc.
It would be better to ask the people you fly with what they generally need the most and go by that.

Getting leadership 5 should be highest priority. Next work on getting all the basic warfare skills to 5: armored, information, siege and skirmish. Then work on the XXX Warfare Specialist skill (lvl 4) that works with ship bonuses (Command Ship skill lvl 4)you are going to use. Then get Warfare Link to 4. Finally, if you really enjoy being a booster, take the final lunge and train Cybernetics 5(XXX Warfare Mindlink), Command ships 5, XXX Warfare Specialist 5, and Warfare Link 5.
Maybe somewhere in there work on Wing and Fleet Command skills.

First of all, I think what it comes down to what do you want to be doing? Each of the sets of warfare links are generally geared towards their specific race: Armored Warfare for Amarr, Information Warfare for Gallente, Skirmish warfare for Minmatar, and Siege for Caldari. In addition each of these links are most effective with their corresponding fleet command ship (which I highly recommend learning how to fly). Obviously this is all fine and grand but you may also want to look at these further in terms of what they actually do.
If you are looking to stick with your Minmatar race in terms of ships then the Claymore would probably be the ship for you. It works best with skirmish warfare links which boost the speed of your ships and lower sig radiuses of your fleet members. One of the more versatile fleet command ships, the Claymore is usually best with smaller gangs. Before the nano nerf this ship would often be seen boosting Vagabonds to make them go over 13km/sec while lowering their sig radius; however, the nerf doesn't mean they will be useless as other gangs (such as the emerging AF gangs) could still benefit from the ship, and the ship still as the ability to not slow down the AF fleet too much.
I might as well also give a quick summary of the other ships here so you know what each role is generally like...
Armored Warfare works best on the Damnation, the Amarr command ship. These link are all about armour tanking and any armour tank in your fleet will thank for you it. The Damnation itself has a good tank and is even better when boosted by it's own links. Don't expect it to do a lot of damage but if you're role is to boost other people then damage is a secondary goal anyway.
Siege warfare works best on the Vulture. These links work pretty much the exact same to your armored warfare links expect they are for your shields. The Vulture also arguably the best tank out of any command ship as well but lacks dps as well; however, it can also be used as a sniper boat despite it's lack of damage.
Information Warfare is for the Eos. Another of the more balanced ships in terms of gank and tank. The Informatiion warfare links themselves boost Electronic Warfare, increasing the range and effectiveness of each. In my opinion, this is probably among the more versatile set of links as they affect a wide variety of ships of different races by increasing the effectiveness of Tracking Disputers, ECM, Sensor Dampeners, Webifiers, etc. Very handy indeed.
So overall it's up to you. I say take some time to review to see what's right for you. Keep in mind all of these ships can use any of the mindlinks, just the ones that are specific to that race happen to get extra bonuses from your command ship.
Hope this helps.

Assuming you're headed for command ships:
Keep in mind that the "racial" bonus for a given set of command ships is the primary focus, but it doesn't prevent you from also mounting an armor/skirmish/info gang booster on your Vulture or Nighthawk.
Command ships are difficult to get into, since the fleet command requires logistics, and the field command requires heavy assault. (Unless my memory is totally shot on the subject.) If you're closer to or already have HAC, then the field command can also fit the mid slot gang mod that allows additional gang mods to be run at once. So if you can fly the Nighthawk for example, and fit it for 2 or 3 gang mods, you can work on Logistics and end up in a Vulture at some point.
Even the plain battlecruiser ships can fit multiple gang modules with that mid-slot module, other than the obnoxious cost to CPU and the skill requirement to use it... Remember that you're there for the gang mods, not obscene DPS/tanking. (Well most of the command ships are rock solid tanks too, but it's still not your primary mission.)
