Vaio VGN-FZ38M
Core Duo, 4GB ram and a Nvidia 8400 GT graphics card means it actually runs the premium client better than my Vaio desktop thats 6 months older.
The kicker is the 15" X-Black LCD panel and blue ray disc and good battery life. I managed 2 hours of eve- in a McDonalds Wi-Fi zone whilst the other half was shopping :)

Any laptop with half decent graphics (ie not integrated intel graphics) and >1GB of RAM will be fine, although don't expect to run premium with anything other than a good gaming laptop.

i am finding it hard to believe no one here has read about the nvidia 8000 series mobile GPU defective cards?
Even Nvidia has annouced it on there site some time ago and Dell extended the warrenties to notebook users who had a 8400 or 8600 mobile GPU as well as HP, there is even a huge recall movment going on at dell forums although it keeps getting deleted, My advice is to stay away from 8000 series nvidia cards..... or you will be sorry in the long run.
You could also pay attention to what Mahj is saying as he obviously has quite a few clues on human behavior. |

I'm running a XPS with dual 8800 GTX cards (OC), and have done so for a year without any problems so far, if it breaks down I'll prolly have to get a new one cus my warranty will soon be up ;p.
To go back on topic, the XPS is great for eve, but not mobile at all (5kg and 60mins battery life in SLI) as well as a powersupply box the size of a milkbox.
The asus eeePC will handle eve classic with some effort (don't try to do fleetcombat) but works for changing skills and hauling stuff around, and it doesn't get anymore mobile than that at the current point in time. And it's cheap.
There's only one sig that matters... and that's Radius. |

I got a 1.6 GHZ celeron, 1gig ram, integrated graphics, runs classic no prob. Spent about $700CDN a year-and-a-half ago.
So, you dont need much of a computer to play eve, part of the reason I like it.

Old news, like REALLY REALLY old news - everyone's heard of it but no one cares. Why? Because IIRC it was fixed with a driver update and the ones that actually were defective were replaced ages ago. And it wasn't every OLD 8000 series cards btw.

I guess you didnt read the 100s of posts that i did at dell, the "fix" was a bios upgrade that simply made the fan run faster and longer to get rid of all the extra heat that was burning up the cards,
This did not fix anything it simply extended the fail time on the cards to past warrenty and made alot of noise and shortend battery life.
The problem was unstable base material on the cards that would sepperate after reapeted heat/cool cycles and as notebooks put out more heat they more often showed the defect. also as these cards were sodered into the mother board if the card went bad you were s.o.L
The new 9000 series cards and ATI cards dont have the same base wafers..And that is why i wont buy a 8000 series card

I play on a Medion.... something. I got it in Aldi for ú500. It has a core2Duo processor, an nVidia 8600, 3Gb of RAM and runs on Vista.
I'd play on my desktop, which is somewhat more powerful, but that thing's come down with a horrible barrage of fail right now and I don't have the time spare to spend a day fixing it.

Play on a Vostro 1500 with 4gb of memory (aftermarket).
Runs fine, 2 clients it can run, but it lags a bit. I have the dedicated video card option. Should run you about $700.

I ordered a custom gaming laptop from www.ibuypower.com and I am very happy with it, it was a bit above your desired price, but they also have other laptops that are cheaper then mine was with really good power, I know they can customize a 15" screen laptop with good power for under $1000, check it out, maybe you find what you are looking for. Dell Inspiron 1400 with Nvidia 8600G w/128Mb Video Ram and 2GB Mem and Vista (I know but I couldnt get XP with it :) - Sad panda  ).
I bought it solely for playing Eve (Yup, dedication!) and it cost me $1200 Australian dollars - so translate that to whatever you want....
Thats the chepeast I could find with a decent name and return policy - you dont want to fork out $1k to not be able to return it if its faulty.....
What others have said is fine. Get a decent Graphics card in it, with 2GB onboard memory and you should be fine.
NOTE: I HAD issues with running it prior to the last client update but now it is sweet as. It now plays exactly as I expected it to play! I'd thoroughly recommend it!

I use HP compaq nx series... pretty good, I used to run 3 accounts and it was working pretty good... you should be able to get something like that for about 700 bucks now but no premium graphics, hell it doesnt even support it let alone running it with under-performance...
its gonna be off your restrictions but I just switched to hp hdx, a bit over! that budget and is like a desktop that weights a little over 7kgs! but it definitely worths it

I just got a new laptop yesterday. Core 2 due 2 gig 2mb cache, 2 gig ram, 9300 nvidia with 512m. runs eve great and told me i can have premium so im downloading it now. just try and get the best graphics card you can afford on the laptop, if it only has 1 gig of ram or somthing you can allways get another 1 gig stick or a 2 gig stick pretty cheap.

Just about any laptop in the 1k range will play eve perfectly fine.
I just picked up an HP HDX18 and really loving it. Got one of the newer cpu's in it (P8400 by default, step it up if you like), bluray, DVDRW, eSATA, SATA2, firewire, hdmi output, wireless B,G,N, and a 9600m with 512 dedicated which is a nice step up in the laptop world for not much more money. Comes with 4GB memory and a 320GB 5400 drive, but you can customize it all on their website and order dual drives in raid if you like. It 'feels' like a really solid unit both in terms of performance and in quality of materials. Personally I love the 18.4" screen, but I know it's not for everyone, especially in a laptop. Bare bones version is just a little more than 1k, or you could step down to the HDX16 to save on weight, screen size and/or cost.
It's sick, but I play eve on my 52" plasma screen through it's HDMI output and I just can't go back. =)

I'm also on vostro 1500. A bit higher end one, but it can be configured around 1000 $ also quite oksih. Trick is to put good enough gfx card in there. Mine has the bigger one and can run 1 clinet quite ok with premium, altho with 2 at premium I have to downgrade either resolution or color depth considerably to get acceptable performance.

Been running EvE Online on my laptop (HP Pabilion dv6600 with 4 gigs of ram)for good 7 months now. I tend to get around 40-50 fps depending on what I am looking at. Once and a while, It will slow down blow 30 when there is intense particle on the screen. I also run War, CoH/CoV, LOTRO, and TF2 without a hitch. The laptop itself ran me for around $660 before I bought an 60 dollars ram upgrade. The integrated sound card is decent. And the wifi run's pretty well on the laptop (good amount of detection). Thou, the downside to the laptop itself, it comes vista and the drivers for xp is somewhat scarce and hard to find. Also, it uses a 55/mm slot 1 expansion. So, kinda hard to find an optional sound card or wifi card. But, there is now an adepter for the slot now.
