How massive a scale are we talking about here? Planetside did twitch/FPS gaming reasonably well on a 500-players-per map scale.
We need to pour out a 40oz for Planetside.

Meh, I did the twitch space combat routine in Star Wars Galaxies. To me, the controls don't make the game, its how those controls are used. For all the hideous flaws in SWG, their gunboat crew set up was an absolutely brilliant sparkling gem. A separate pilot, gunners, player repair crew and co-pilot/operations officer. You ain't played a kick arse space sim until you've literally flown in combat as part of an actual ship's crew. All I had to do was announce in guildchat that I was taking the Nova Courier up and I'd have two gunners and a guy with a repair kit jumping out of their seat ready to fly.
Give me something original or unique about the system to sell me on it.
SWG had the player crewed gunboats. EVE gives me epic scale combat and the ability to fly the REAL heavy ships I always wanted in SWG.
Thus far, no matter how pretty the skins and backgrounds are painted, JGE looks like the same kind of space shooter we've had available since X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter with network support. In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

The problem was you had to do all the horrible (especially considering how good X-wing, TIE Fighter, and XvT were), PvE crap to get to the PvP area.
I really doubt jumpgate is gonna capture XvT, SWG certainly didn't.

500 people in the same world sure, but when I played planetside I was never on the same battlefield with more than 16 or 32. I'm pretty sure that if a hundred tried to cram themselves into the same base things would become extremely unplayable (except maybe for a bomber high above said base ). ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

Eve does not turn over that much money comparing to other MMO's out there, probably one of the lowest profitable MMo's.
seriously, are you high?
EVE is consistently the #2 MMOG in the western world. other games may peak around launch and temporarily beat EVE (AoC, Warhammer online, you name it) but over a five-year timespan, EVE is arguably the second most success MMOG to date.

srsly, throw one person with a ping over 100 in a nice little server and its quickly a lag hell, and if your ever daft enough to mention it the high pinger is like "My ping is only 125, its fine."

I was in the beta and we enjoyed both small skirmishes for towers and massive 200+ people at a single base battle.
Afterburning a Galaxy into Reavers camping a tower with your squad mates in it and pushing them into a tree so they explode never got old .

I remember I had a tool that would log players deaths during each base capture, routinely saw 1000+ unique names.
Loved that game. First time I played in Beta, got a Galaxy and tried to fly it. Hit the ground, trees, buildings, gate pylons, and everything else on the screen. After a few days I could circle my Galaxy inside the base wall and NAP the earth with ease.
But I enjoyed Planetside, esp when i got command 5 and orbital strikes. But like most games they made a fundamental game play change and lost alot of players (giant mech things).
I usually play FPS games for my twitch itch, and will probably check out JGE, when it comes out. Thanks to the OP and this thread for pointing out another game to waste some money on.
I will still keep my Eve account due to the challenge, depth, and fun I have here. I good game like Eve fills my (minor) obsessive compulsive gaming urge. And I have many good friends here.
I would shill out some moolah if Eve created a twitch shooter flight sim, but not a FPS... Hmm could be based on the Jove/Sisters/pirate factions...

37 hours. The amount of time required to go from Novice Pilot to Master Pilot. Not that bad, especially if you were halfway decent at twitchfighting. That time is based on my guild leader actually starting his toon and running on caffeine and adrenaline to the Corvette run in a single setting.
I will give you this, it was pretty horrible, except for passing time taking down the ISD Lagstar until someone popped into the system. In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

I would love to be able to manually fly a rifter using the mouse, but I understand the server-load would be unacceptable.
Even just an optional first-person-perspective would be great.
Having said all that, what I love about EVE is the single server which makes alliance wars possible, so I'm not sure jump-gate would be for me.

I wont join that game no matter how good it might turn out. Simply because I hate anything that can be associated with FPS, twitch and WASD.
Besides EVE Online have caught my interest for 3 years! I see no reason to swap out a game I am still happy with after all this time!

Oh yes…
The sheer awsomeness of a full flight of Lodestars carrying fully-crewed Prowlers, Galaxies loaded with entire drop squads; escorted by wings upon wings of Reavers and Mossies and with Libs clearing the way before the drops.
Rather lousy tactic, but hellalot of fun…

I think the most off-putting aspect of JGE is the fact that it is a sequel.
With Eve you get a game for life (hopefully), they will not drop it and develop a sequel. Imagine if you really like JGE, but it is not massively popular/profitable. Instead of developing it and making it better, they will just move onto another version.
