Though I must voice my concerns over the stability of Goonswarm if they are suddenly expected to be respectful to other people (and themselves). That's anathema to the core culture of Something Awful. This will end in tears.

Well, regardless of whether this is a troll or no, you have to admit if you look at it for longer than five seconds that the Goonswarm of EVE is actually not quite the same thing as the Something Awful crowds in some other games. There is a lot of loltrolling going on, but the core of "our" GSF is not folks who come here only to troll and lol - they are actually people who know how to play the game and care about it more deeply than is probably acceptable to admit in some of the circles they move in. It would not be completely unbelievable that some of them actually wanted a reputation as people who know their **** rather than people who talk ****. |

The problem being addressed is unfunny **** being perpetually recycled by unfunny nerds.
There is no attempt to end shitting up local, comms or fleet chat, just a general move away from the (apparent) decline in originality and actual humour.
As an alliance we will ban anyone who posts 4chan chit on our forums, but not in fleet chat. Inability to parse your posts and thinking m8 is a reasonable substitute for 'mate' are other capital offences. This is simply the application of basic forum rules to the in game communal areas.
Oh, and stopping the hackneyed and pathetic OMG 'girl on the internet' ****, because it is just weak |

Ah no. The goal is wrap themselves in the flag of Good Posting so as to occupy the Moral High Ground in order to have Just Cause to attack anyone who posts anti-Mittani material (i.e. mentions fanfest, cyberbullying, etc.) and to be seen as Fine Upstanding Pillars of the Community who are being unfairly lambasted in the liberal, leftist, anti-large-corporation, anti-success, you're-just-jealous media, thus garnering Public Sympathy in order to achieve Positive Spin in any future news stories run by Gaming Press.
They have to be subtle and sophisticated with this PR campaign because a crude "putting lipstick on a pig" re-imaging PR campaign wouldn't work due to people asking why CCP devs have lipstick on their *****.
edit: Also, with a new, radical, campaign strategy, it gives Mittani the excuse to perform a reorg (due to the focus change) and thus shuffle potential rivals out of the way while keeping the masses too busy (and confused) to let any disgruntlement grow into revolt.
