I'm switching to a windows phone shortly and I'm wondering which apps are available for EVE. All i'm coming up with is Evolution. Are there any others? Is evolution worth getting?? Thanks. I plan on living forever.......so far, so good. |

Thank you for the reply but I'm getting a WINDOWS phone not an android :)
You'd be surprised how many android apps I've been told about whenever I ask about apps for my new Windows phone.

There really isn't anything decent for the Windows Phone. There were a couple good ones before CCP changed the API keys but they've not been updated. Here is what I'm currently using.
EveLet - Simple character monitor. Not much to speak of but it works. Eve Ship Browser - Browse the ships of the game and view stats. Some of the models are even in 3D so you can ship spin on your phone!
The Apple and Microsoft business models aren't really conducive to free apps and CCP isn't going to like you charging $$ for apps on these phones. Does CCP have that $99 fee if you want to charge for apps? If so you are looking at $200 a year to put something on iPhone or WP7. You'd be hard pressed to create an app for Eve that you could break even on. WP7 now has side-loading for hobby apps but you have to be pretty technical to make that work; further reducing your audience. Android is really the best place for free/hobby apps. I'm hoping WP8 changes things for us. |

What sort of apps would you guys be interested in for Windows Phone 7.x / Zune HD?
Have been meaning to start a project for the platform, so if you guys have anything particular in mind let me know :) |

Something that sent push notifications when Eve sends notifications or mail to any of my characters would be the most useful for me. I've got EveMon for monitoring most everything and I'm usually on a PC at least once a day so character monitors on the phone aren't that useful. Knowing immediately when a tower is under attack however would be priceless. |

Something similar to the Xbox Live / Windows Live App, should be fairly simple to do that. |

People are not developing on WP because of the LIMITED API (compared to WinCE), they are all focusing on Android because it is not intentionally limited and closed off. I don't know the API story on iOS but I would imagine it is more accessible than WP is.
If you want to use anything outside of XNA/Silverlight, Isolated storage and Windows App Market, you are basically screwed on WP.
I hit this problem and had to recommend Android for this very reason, WP closed off the API making it a no go in the systems I have to develop.
I STRONGLY recommend you get either Droid or iOS, WP is not a good developer story in its current form and will not be for a while, especially with Balmer's attitude.
There is no local database in WP, there is no side loading in WP, there is no NFC, Bluetooth etc API access. These are VERY important if you want to develop apps that use "alternative" interaction , such as augmented interaction (great for blind people and people on the move, or in the field etc).
As for eve apps, well, if you want a local database, you are out of luck, for a simple HTTP REST query, probably ok, bit expensive to get a phone just for Eve apps though and useless on other apps. Isolated storage is the only other option for local storage on WP, if you just want that basic stuff, you can just do a HTTP query into REST and save it as a bookmark on any mobile device, but getting a Windows Phone just for basic stuff, is just a waste of money given the current state of it, it effectively is a dead brick when it comes to useful app development.
It is so simple to develop apps on droid, you can do many yourself in no time using Eclipse and java and the Activity XML designer. Beats wrestling with Visual studio and compact framework, Silverlight and other stuff. In fact you might be supprised how easy it is to develop for.
The reason there is very few apps for WP, bad bad dev story. Most are avoiding it. Well actually that isn't true, most got pushed away from it due to no API access for much functionality. |

Strange....most of the interviews I have seen from larger dev companies building top 100 Android/iOS apps say that WP is much better to develop for.
WP7 has 7 of top 10 phones rated on Amazon for a reason. _____________________________________________________ Power is not something that is granted - it is something to be taken.

I ended up sending the WP back and getting an android. I prefer the windows OS but as it stands right now there are hardly any apps available and zero available for the uses I was after.
So we'll see if windows can catch up on apps, if it does I don't see why it won't compete well with the other two but as of right now, bleh. I plan on living forever.......so far, so good. |

Really, before you open your mouth, go try to develop for it.
If you can access bluetooth, let me know because I can make you VERY VERY rich :)
I have, I am, and WP is a terrible developer story for "real world" applications.
I worked at MSFT for a decade, I had to recommend Android for this very reason, lack of API access, that is why droid is the number one platform for mobile device interaction and pretty much EVERYWHERE on EVERY DEVICE imaginable.
Droid access to NFC, Bluetooth, Sql database, etc etc... WP cannot do that, at least not on public API's.
WinCE was the last really programmable mobile from MSFT, Windows Mobile was killed off, WinCE is end of life, Windows Phone is the new API, Windows RT is comming, Windows 8, sometime, MS is currently forcing developers of "real world" field/embedded apps to go to Windows Embedded (overkill for field apps that are just data acquisition and sending back to base over the air) and WP is not recommended for such applications and no other platform is available. |

There is hardly any apps for the reason I previously stated, terrible developer story, lack of public API's, most key functionality is private and locked out.'
If WP is such a great thing to develop for, where are the apps? That speaks volumes. |

If WP is such a great thing to develop for, where are the apps? That speaks volumes. The only reason apps will start to appear is 1) MS "partner" with companies to get them to do apps 2) they develop them themselves or 3) they make more of the API public and accessible to external developers. Until that happens, its as useful as a dead brick to developers such as myself. If Skype etc (that they purchased) and have released a WP app use internal API's then MSFT are straight back into court for anti-trust :) The API was INTENTIONALLY locked down, Balmer wanted to do an Apple iTunes app store copycat and thus we get a limited API.
Thanks for the info.

I recently got a WP nokia 800, I bought it primary for work. It connects well to my hotmail account, I use the GPS. The main reason I got the phone was for it's durability it is very sturdy and can take a beating more than other smart phones. However the APP scene is abysmal and there are literally none compared to I android or apples phone. For me this is not a problem but if you want apps do not get a windows phone. |

Actually had this phone for a few hours now and I like it very much. I have found some great apps that do pretty much all I want and more. I was bit worried about browsing the net via windows phone due to adds and the likes but windows explorer on the phone has a built in ad-block which is ace. Not seen a single advert once while browsing. I don't know why all browsers do not have this as standard now a days instead of having to download 3rd party ad blockers.
Anyway I will be up for downloading any free EVE apps for the windows phone. SO feel free to message me if you have any. |

I got a Nokia 800 from work and I've been using it for about 6 months now. I really like the industrial design coming out of Nokia. My only complaint about that phone is there is no way to change the battery.
I hope WP does well. In my opinion it has the best developer experience of any of the big 3. Just need to convince developers to create more apps on it.

WP has the potential to be much more then it is, but the devs are being stunted. I love my phone, but untill they make the devs happy and alow the platform to foster ingenuity like android does we will not get the app base.

My 1st WP app should be published in about a week. I wanted to do something simple since this was my first time working with Silverlight and I ended up creating a calendar reader for Eve. I'll probably add email and notification support in the future. Once Microsoft approves the app I'll post a link to it. |

My app has been waiting for Microsoft certification for almost three weeks. They've bounced it twice because they didn't understand how to use API keys. With any luck it should be in the marketplace this week. |

It also depends on what type of dificulty u want cause i have a couple of suggestions for WP7. I dont mind the monitoring apps for character, but if there is a way we can get an app to monitor corporation information, or even a possibility for planetary development monitoring, that would be great. |

In order to get someone to develop an app for corp management they also have to be a corp manager which further reduces your odds. I may make a WinRT/WP8 app for corp management so I can keep an eye on things eventually but my next app is going to be something I can make money with. CCP's rules against charging for applications severely limit what people will develop in their free time. I think in app ads make your app ugly so I don't like using them yet that is the only avenue CCP affords us developers. |
