So traveling is one of those things that I've always wanted to do. There are many places that I would like to visit. Many parts of Europe, if not all parts. Most of Asia, parts of South America and parts of Africa. But I really don't know where I would like to live. You see, I was born and raised in sunny Southern California. It's the only place I've ever thought of as home, and I've never imagined living elsewhere. The food, the beaches, the girls. It's just too nice.
But then I watched Zeitgeist. Boy was that a mistake. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but it all makes so much sense. Now, I could go into a whole novel on the documentary and it's sequel, but that's not why I'm here. Basically, I want to leave the United States. My timeline is roughly five years. Five years to save up, learn a new language (half-assedly) and develop some trade skill that can be used in my new target home.
So where should I go? I would like to be in a country that is not involved in the EU or any form that might be same on any continent. As far as my research has shown me, in Europe that leaves me Switzerland and Norway. I need beautiful women, fantastic beer, awesome scenery, cigarettes, a low(ish) living cost, and (preferably) a heavy metal scene.
So I turn to the greatest, most diverse forum on the internets. Fellow EVErs, where shall I live???

Even if you don't move at all, I doubt you will be living in the "USA" five years from now (might as well be living in the "Republic of California" by then or whatever that area will be calling itself)... so might as well stay there. Everywhere sucks right now, and will suck even more in the near future. California actually sounds like a pretty decent place to be in, just not in or too near LA - a smaller city, even a village-style town, now that would be just great - as long as you're somewhere near a natural fresh water source and there's some farmland nearby, you're going to be just peachy.
Actually, I'm afraid I was a bit too optimistic with my previous statements

Sounds like Switzerland is your only option, and that sure as hell isn't cheap.
Or if you feel like plunging yourself into degeneracy and realising how the USA isn't that bad, come to the UK for a week or two.

Lol, good point, both of you.
Now I do understand that at this current time the US is not at all that bad, its actually very nice. And where I am is not too bad either. But I'm afraid of where it is going. I don't want to be stuck here if things happen that I fear may and/or will. I'm more willing to take the chance that I didn't have to leave, rather than I should have left years ago.

Gonna be saying this.
Norway has pretty much what you wanted.
Plus freezing cold weather and everything is super-bloody expensive.
Other than that, come to the UK!

Except the lowish living costs part.
However, get trained in teaching english (In the Uk its called T.E.F.L - Teaching English as a Foreign Language- its not hard to do believe me, even I have quals in that) as it will be a good fallback for either a full-time job or a part-time extra cash job when you are there. In fact, it would be ideal for where-ever you decide to go.

/\__this.
Norway, Sweden, Denmark <- fairly expensive & interesting tax rates
Estonia <- interesting alternative
But as others have eluded too it's entirely possible that lots of places that seem good now may not be in 5 years time. I think that's why getting a good fall-back skill like the TEFL is such good advice.

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 05/12/2008 10:38:49 Every country/bank runs the same scheme or is being used in it, if you properly watched that movie you'll realise it's everywhere. Thing is ofcourse that the "consume, consume!" and "if you don't buy stuff on credit you're a wuss!" mentality now suddenly starts to make sense, thing is ofcourse that it already should have made sense.
The only way to battle it is to either fully abolish the monetary system or (if you have enough of the stuff) make use of it.

Don't move to the UK the women are dull, short, fat and grumpy.
Switzerland is expensive but an awesome place to live especially Geneva. In the summer you can hang out on the lake and the alps are an hour away.
Problem with Switzerland is getting in, you'll need a career first. I would go for one of the Nordic countries, Sweden, Norway oh yeh and visit Amsterdam thats a pretty damn cool place to hang out. /start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game four years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |

I can recommend norway, as im from Norway :) Dont expect too much of the beer tho! Its not as cold as ppl might think (at the coast), unless you go north or inland during winter. But ofc not as warm as the mediteranian countries. Beautifull women here
If you like to go fishing its perfect, and lots of mountains if your into outdoor activities. Also many places to ski during winter.

I highly recommend Afghanistan or Iraq over the UK.

Haven't seen the movie. But I did read the wiki of it. I gotta say the first part about the origins of religion are logical sense religion is made up anyways. But it seems the movie had lost the plot when it delves into the bull**** conspiracy theories and "New World Order" crapola.
It's as if people don't like the style of God in the religious form so they formulate a new God (aka conspiracy theories and big brother) in a different form.
It's very simple. They are all full of ****.
Having said that, move to Tahiti

Scandinavia is awesome, but I dunno about "low living cost"
Also you'd have to learn their funny moon languages.
Sweden would actually be top of my list but only because I've really liked the cities I've been to there. Goteborg is wonderful place.

lol I'm down South.
Go to France, Switzerland, Spain, Iceland, Canada and the US and tell me we're lucky!!!
Went to have my hair cut and the young lass cutting my hair looked like a bulldog chewing a wasp. The last time she was all sweetness and light despite having a cold. You know why? Because she wanted a Christmas tip lol A girl I know was telling her mate about me and I overheard, one of my qualities apparently was cash.
Unfortunately other qualities include accute hearing and a lack of desperation. /start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game four years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |
