I've had an account in nearly every major mmo since the days of eq1. You know what? Everyone of them is cancelled. Maybe my standards are just higher than your average mmo player, but after 5 years you would think that Eve could at least handle 100 vs 100 by now with all the so called upgrades and lag monster quests. Game is a slide show most days with just 20-30 npc rats in a mission. The game plays like beta and feels like beta to me. My opinion. Good day.
*shrug* There was a thousand people fight in VNG not too long ago, lag wasn't perfect but it was, according to those I know who were present, ranging from good to excellent. Personally the largest fight I've personally witnessed post-QR had a couple of hundred per side, and there was zero server lag. Client lag was mitigated by having effects turned off, and it was to the point I could fly my interceptor around while zoomed in with no issues at all.
If you're getting crap fps with only 30 rats in a mission, you've got other issues. Not the least of which is that it doesn't seem like MMOs are for you.

Why fight someone who repeatedly beats you when you can r4pe these guys AND get some sweet tears out of it?

To be fair to him, he forgot to mention he's been using the same computer he has since EQ1.

There have been some major announcements today regarding fleet flights for both major engagements as well as small gang and roaming gangs.

Almost sprayed my coke :P
and the whole OMG I NEED UBER EXPENSIVE PC TO PLAY EVE is far from correct, a "decent" graphics card and cpu are fine for eve, again why should the rest of eve suffer because of your slow pc? my average pc has no problems with 500+ fights -----------------------------------------------

TLDR;
CCP still needs to changing the way the client loads the grid. When the client warps in, there's a bit from the server that says "end of grid". After the client loads the data, it should then send a bit to the server saying "I've finished loading the grid". The server should then send a bit to each client that says ship x is on grid (as it must do now) then and only then, should the ship show up to everyone else on the grid.
It's not clear to me why this hasn't been changed yet.

Id say this was karma for you bringing 120+ to take on our roaming gang of 40ish earlier. Also, its not like your side was the only one to have lag. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

100+ each side = no 150+ each side = yes
This battle would fall under the "do not notify CCP" category. Maybe next time you should actually read and understand the stipulations for dedicated blade server
fleet fights before you make stupid comments?
Yeah, but nevermind the OP.
You know who I feel sorry for?
The corp who gets their requests ignored by CCP for persistantly holding 299 man battles because Dave has a nextdoor neighbour who's gone on holiday and he's feeding their cat.

There is a trick if you are warping to a POS, or non gate.
Send in a covert ops that is on grid but not in strike range, 300, then warp the fleets there to load the grid.
That is a tip that is worth billions.
Your welcome

Because quite a few people will misteriously lose connection before allowing the confirmation of arrival package to be sent by their 'custom firewall' if they dislike the amount of data or the contents of that data

Those improvements sound great. Can't wait to test them.
One important thing tho. Please consider putting in some "less resource intensive" effects that, while maybe not as visually impressive, allow us to get some sort of visual feedback from the client on what's going on. Disabling everything doesn't just cut out eyecandy, but also makes it really hard to quickly gauge what's going on in an engagement.
