i suddenly find myself with lots and lots of free training time as i got graphic problems with my computer(no games work for more than 5 min at a time) and as such got plenty of time to train stuff i have focused in yet as i had more important things to train.
thats when i thought about caldari rail ships...i got pretty low gunnery at the moment. but as i said i got plenty of time...there is atlest 2 month until i can get a new computer.
anyway what rail ships do you guys recomend? the eagle is a good choise ofcourse...would it be a good use of time to train up for the vulture to? how about the frig rail ships? are the useful? do the ferox do its work?

The Rokh is the ubersniper, but it too is a niche ship. Its one of the few ships with that kind of insane range, so you really want an alliance that's geared towards using you, otherwise, you're basically sitting well within your optimal range, maybe flyswatting the occassional Falcon that isn't paying attention.
Also, don't plan on a lot of kills, even if you do keep the long range ECM ships busy, they'll just lock you down on the second go around when they warp back in. This to say nothing of your extreme range DPS being completely insufficient to kill them quickly.
Its a nice ship to fly, I swear by them, but they're really ships you want to be sure your FC knows how to use before fielding them. In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

Although common usage in some junior variants of English may prefer the spelling "spelled" over "spelt" (e.g., the cadet branch "American English"), OED, Webster and Collins all substantiate the correctness of "spelt".
I wasn't able to find "Caldari", though! I guess it's because that's a proper noun.

If you really want to be a railgun sniper, there are only a few ships really worth training for:
1. Eagle. With good skills you can scratch paint out to 200km which is impressive for a battleship but really mind-boggling for a cruiser. Since QR, engagement range is becoming more important so the Eagle is not likely to be obsolete anytime soon. As a side note, don't train the Vulture just to use as a railgun platform; although the Eagle is less durable than the Vulture, it's got the same range, more gun damage, and costs a lot less. Save the vulture for providing fleet bonuses with a side of sniping.
2. Rokh. Bar none the longest range turret platform in the game. Unfortunately, game mechanics limit you to targeting at 249km so a lot of the Rokh's potential is wasted. It does have the benefit of being able to hit out to fleet ranges (~150km) with T1 ammo and T1 guns so they're very forgiving on rookie pilots. They also have huge shield buffers so they are relatively easy to DD-proof.
3. Megathron. You'll never match a Rokh for range, but your tracking bonus helps offset the penalties of using Spike so you can at least keep up damage-wise at fleet ranges. Less impressive buffer tank, but cheaper, armor tanked, and posessing a utility high-slot. Very popular choice for pilots who have access to T2 large rails.
You can certainly use railguns on other platforms, but these three are probably the best 'railgun sniper' platforms. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

"Joke ships", ie the Cormorant and Ferox.
No one shoots at the Ferox, because it's "not a threat". So you sit there, being ignored, and shoot things at 110+ km. Flip to amat, and you can still reach 40+. And oh boy are the hulls cheap. For giggles, take your hybrid skills and fit blasters on it. You'll still get ignored, right up until the point where you drop way more DPS than anyone expects out of a Ferox. If you've got enough tackler friends to let you use all your mids for tank/MWD, things get kinda amusing for a minute or so :P
The Cormorant is a tin can. If someone looks at it crosseyed, it dies. However, it's a T1 hull with 2 optimal and 1 tracking bonus, meaning you are stupidly accurate to 80+ km. The dps is pretty crap, but it's enough to do bad things to tacklers. And it's cheap!
Btw, it's spelled "squid".

The calamari have ships now?!?! Holy crap, we're in for it now!!
By the way, are their ships full of water, or do they have serious oxygenation implants?!?!?! Cuz, that would come in handy with the fart machines I have to work with on a daily basis. How does one get a +1 or +4 fart control implant here?!?!

Actually ive been tezting railboats out with the smallest versions (e.g. 75mm on frig, dual 150mm on cruiser/bc, dual 250mm on bs), and they form quite good mid-range platforms.
Can hit with antimatter for good range and tracking, dps is not bad. However they are of course, out performed in this area by laser boats.
Still good though when u dont feel like sniping one day :) EVE history

Actually a "calamari" would outlast a human in a pod any day...it's not like we don't have problems floating in our pee and sh!t all day...or do you get an "enema" hardwiring solving that problem?
Anyways... I insist that the "stealth" dmg dealing of a Blaster-Ferox or a mid-range Blaster-Rokh are way more impressive than the sniping versions... POS sniping - Raven ftw, Apoc for no ammo usage (and we did that even before Apoc changes) Long range sniping Apoc > Rokh and Apoc > Mega - even at BS IV, so cross training from zero hybrids to T2 large makes little difference than going to T2 lasers. A blaster ferox isnt my cup of tea, as a mid-range Blaster-ferox is a paradox. Close range its too sluggish to be effective and considering its vastly outperformed here by a brutix, I see no point to a blaster ferox.
I consider anything 18-39km mid-range. Id like to see a blaster ferox reach those ranges at all (that isnt a total gimp fit for tank, other mods etc). Under 18km is short range imo. Over 39km is long-range. Over 150km is sniper range.
Note that a blaster rokh will have to gimp tank to reach mid range (481 max vs. 610 max..typical tank-with-usual-mid-mods fit). And note that a mid-range rokh has a little extra range which is always useful.
E.G. (all lev 5 skills for fair test) A nuet-blaster rokh gets 588 dps (no drones). A rokh with dual 250mm rails gets 508 dps (no drones).
Blaster used cn lead (to get to good mid-range), rail used cn antimatter (already at mid-range, so use best dps ammo).
Ranges were (with fall-off) [rail] 46km vs. [blaster] 29km. Id definately sacrifice that 80 dps for near double the range
Its a close comparison, but Ill always prefer putting rails on a rokh over blasters. Especially considering I can change my cn antimatter to spike L and hit to 127km

There is a few Sniper ships in the caldari race, ranging from. Harpy, Eagle, Vulture, Rokh, MoA, ferox, and even raptor But the problem with the Caldari Rail boats is they lack damage output compare to the other class ship's, So with that been said the main focus for them are support from long range. But you can also train for T2 Blasters as they pwn with the Caldari ships...
