My boyfriend LOVES sins of a solar empire. I got it so we could play something together but I'm terrible at it, I tend to pick units based on aesthetics as opposed to stats and he just kicks my ass
I've not played single player so I can't really say anything about the AI but the three armies seem a little unbalanced. The TEC are pretty cool and have some nice stuff including a SPACE TRAIN (I always pick these), the Vasari have some pretty good looking units too and all in all the the TEC and the Vasari are pretty well balanced. However.. the Advent.. well, they were clearly the Devs favourite faction, they pretty much have the best of everything and a number of ridiculous special powers that will make you weep. In eve terms they can gank, tank, tackle and mine all the same time and pretty much do all of those BETTER than the other two factions.. a little unbalanced really considering they also have some of the CHEAPEST units.
Anyway, the game is great fun multiplayer even if you're getting your ass handed to you.

That¦ll be a Dunov Battlecruiser then:
Though it looks waaaaaay prettier on my rig, especially after the last patch. It¦s actually a quite shiny game:
But you wont spend much time in that view, you¦ll be buisy ordering you ship and stuff. ^^
My favourite ship is the Kol Battleship:
How much you¦d pay for it? I got it and played a few skirmishs, though the real fupart seems to be the multiplay. Didn¦t try that yet in fear of getting my ass handed to me.

Go to gametrailers.com and do a search for Sins and Sup Com. See if they are right for you. I own and play both so I like them. Sup Com can be very tense and lots of micromanaging. But very fun. Especially building Tech 3 Experimentals (nothing is cooler than having 5 Monkey Lords rampaging someones base ).

SoaSE was OK for me. Each faction felt completely identical with different skins and pew pew effects.
Got very repetitive very fast, even for a RTS. Besides, I'm never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down |

Interesting game but basically incomplete. Needs balancing and moar content. Expansions are coming, but they will be tied into Stardock's DRM service. The rumours of SoaSE being DRM-free were greatly exaggerated. -

Good game, takes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy too long to play a full match, and for the most part, the match can be decided in the early stages of the games, making the rest of it pretty pointless. ________________________________

I am gay and, luckily, so is my boyfriend. It'd be rather an uncomfortable relationship if either of us weren't.

This is balanced by the fact the entire Advent frigate line-up and half of their cruisers are complete ****e. They only excel under micromanagement, and their Culture focus is pretty weak.
You want to see an over powered faction? Try TEC late-game, a good TEC player will not lose, their economy is uber, their ships are uber, their superweapon is uber.
Edit: Although Advent late-game are pretty good. Especially Halycon carriers backed up with Radience-class Battleships. Those things rock.

I bought this when it came out as it was being hailed as something amazing, but really I didn't see what all the fuss was about - gameplay is so slow that matches can last forever, and the big fights arn't really that impressive either. I much rather Homeworld.

Ok, I just played a nice quick skirmish (just over four hours) as the TEC, got my little space train to level 6 and fully researched military trees.. it became a horrendous engine of destruction when teamed with a cloud of those Hoshinko prototype cruisers.
Also, It should go toot toot or something, that'd be nice.

IMO Sins is just way too slow. And whats worse the mistakes you make in first 15-30 minutes of the match can cost you game after 5-6 hours. I prefer faster games so when you actually make mistake you pay for it within 15 minutes and can play rematch :)
Only for people who have way too much spare time.

Incidentally, it is the EVE RTS. Moving from area to area by jumps from specific points, which then end up camped, and the AI running away unless it has an extreme advantage? It's like watching EVE from a birds eye view.
One thing I like about the game is that a lot of it is decided by strategic and tactical movement of fleets rather than the actual fight. Like EVE, the fight is more or less decided when the shooting actually begins. -

I have the game, its very long winded, smaller scale games with like 12 systems are fun, the larger games with over 100 systems gets very boring as its just constant colonization and the almost impossible task of killing the other players.
Its defiantly a multilayer game, single player is OK but doesn't have the same edge.
What are these space trains you keep talking about, I have never seen them!

I like SINS, for various reasons. First, its a 4X game similar to Imperium Galactica. Second, it uses the strategic-tactical zoom that was also used in Supreme Commander (eat your heart out Starcraft II! pfft!) Third, the gameplay can last for many, many hours. You don't have to play for 4 hours to win a match either- just play a smaller map and use fewer enemies. August Guns |

True... which is probably one of the reasons I love SINS.
Awesome graphics... Check. Enough variation on the sides to make a difference... Check. Wide-scale, intensive strategy... check.
And yeah, it's long-term, but I need something to do while being camped by 200 -A- for an hour. ----------------------------------------------
