I actually have the whole series on here someplace, what better things to do during downtime? Let's see, season 1 episode 8.
Being able to hold your fleet between systems till they've all loaded the next one should be an option.
Should/would/could have, HAVE you chav!

Edited by: Sevarus James on 10/12/2008 14:49:40 I wasn't sold until the final episode of season one. The president assassinated, and everything seeming to turn on its head...I knew then that I was watching something special.
Delenn and Lennier leaving the isolation chamber after all within succumbed to their race's version of aids... and the look on Lennier and Delenn's faces...that sticks in my head even years later.
People didn't win at the end of each episode...victory had a price. People grew and changed...and sometimes not for the better.
And....G'Kar. The most amazing character arc of any film or television show I think I've ever seen.
R.I.P. Andreas Katsulas, you are missed.
Oh, and everytime I see a cyno field and a ship coming through....I think of B5 and smile. Ubuntu 3d Beryl-Linux Desktop+EVE |

Babyon 5 was a diplomatic station in neutral space, it's purpose was to help maintain the peace.
In Eve the nearest equivalent would be the Concord station at Yulai I guess.
There'll peace in Eve anytime soon.
Yes B5 is still the standard against which I judge SF TV, I just need to spend the time to re-edit some of the story arc out of the rubbish episodes and into the good ones. No sense watching some of the awful episodes like 'Infection'

Originally by: Karrade Krise B5 was good. Graphics/cgi was well done for tv for its' time. However I still feel Farscape was a hundred times better. :D B5 is mostly serious with a handful of laughs. FS was a good mix of both.
But yea, def a great show!
(Oh, and the FS movie Peacekeeper Wars was crap compared to what it SHOULD have been)
I'm a fan of Farscape too. However, I'd have to say that B5 had a much tighter plot with far less inconsistencies.
*Spoiler Alerts*
For example, the wormhole "science" in Farscape was awful. At the beginning of season two, in the two part episode where Zhaan dies, we see Moya and her crew stuck in a wormhole when an alien ship crashes into her. Yet, in season three it's revealed, through Scorpius' experiments, that Sabaceans turn to goo when traversing a wormhole. Also, when John has to return to Dam Bada (or whatever that planet is called) Furlow, the mechanic we met in season one, has sold a working copy of John's shuttle (with a device which allows someone to travel safely through wormholes) to the Charrids, friends of the Scarrans. So clearly some device is needed to travel through wormholes safely (with the exception of John) and yet, throughout the rest of the show this rule is disregarded as John and his friends travel through wormholes several times throughout the show. Furthermore, it's revealed in PK Wars that John can't actually make wormhole weapons (which was somewhat implied beforehand but never fully revealed until now) until he gets the knowledge by taking a quick visit to an Ancient. If John had told this to Scorpius explicitly in the first place then I wonder how different things would have been.
Despite these plot holes I still loved Farscape and it's my favourite Sci-Fi show so far. It's the humour that keeps me watching it; some episodes are hilarious. And of course, there's Aeryn. B5 didn't really have any attractive females in it.

The first season is alittle slow, but it lays the ground work for the next seasons to be awesome. I Love B5 its is by far my favorite Scifi show. It truly pioneered how special effects could be used for a TV show. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. Edited by: Farrellus Cameron on 11/12/2008 18:04:00 Babylon 5 set the bar for future sci-fi shows. Dark, with an ongoing storyline spanning multiple episodes and entire seasons, almost space operatic. It was one of the first serial drama sci-fi shows.
Season 1 was slow to set up the characters. Then it started going and 2, 3, and 4 were awesome. I thought 5 was pretty weak though.
That first time seeing the shadow vessels appear to destroy the Narn outpost gave me chills.
Also, a corp is my alliance is called "The Vorlon Empire." ----------------------------------------------------

I too find season 5 to be a little disjointed, however it redeems itself in the last few episodes, and then in this scene:
Final Moments of B5
you see the station decommisioned and whats left of a fragile nerd heart comes crumbling down.
Oh and a last B5 quote:

they were called the Vree, on the show they were the little telepathic sterotypical "grays" that are supposed to come from flying saucers.... in one episode they were getting sued by an human because one of the Vree`s ancestors had abducted and probed the mans grandfather.

I only really watched the movies, "In the Beginning" being the first B5 thing I ever saw and I loved it. I saw Thirdspace too which I liked somewhat, but didn't understand much of the story...
I suppose I should actually watch the series at some point

It's JS himself pulling the last plug at the end.
And as said before, the network was planning to cancel B5, so JS had to write everything important from seizon 5 into seizon 4. By the time the idiots in suits changed their mind it was to late. Last episodes did leave way to many questions behind. What the heck was Bester doing in the end, for example?
And my thanks for the link to the in memory link of G'kar. Pierced my guts.

I miss B5 so much
B5 did so much for Science Fiction and changed the genre forever. It forced Sci-fi writers to put more emphasis on character development and the story lines of their shows and forced them to throw away the old taboos of the day.
Minus BSG, depending on how this last season works out, their will never be another sci-fi show like it, ever.
And I don't know who else will agree with me but I think if it wasn't for Peter Jurasik and Andreas Katsulas superb performances Babylon 5 wouldn't of been the epic story that we know it as today. Owing to lack of Eve-related content, signature removed. If you would like to discuss this, please mail [email protected] - Mitnal |
