Ive heard alot about them, but, just what is the deal?
How do they work, who issues them? Whats a typical cost?
Time length?
Who honors them, who doesn't?
What are the "mechanics" of obtaining, using and traveling in "owned" space?
Ie:
I want to go try my luck oreing in 0.o space, i pick out a system and head out. I near the area, and find im notified im in "thier" space. I offer to buy a pass.
Are these just glorified scams?
Are they honored by the issuers corps? and thier alliance members?
Assume a non-pirate, bounty hunter or mega corp, just a few folks trying to get there hands on a bit of rares...
Assistance appreciated..

most only allow npc hunting, not mining but if u want to mine in 0.0 i suggest the following open space areas (tho no where near safe still, due to pirates/npcs/and waring alliances):
Pure Blind, Tribute, Vale of the Silent and the CFS regions in the south. Dont suggest going alone, and like i said, its open, but ur safty isnt guarenteed (but still cheaper then paying an alliance)

Pure Blind, Tribute, Vale of the Silent and the CFS regions in the south. Dont suggest going alone, and like i said, its open, but ur safty isnt guarenteed (but still cheaper then paying an alliance)

yeah they have m0o and evol and RKK in those areas and they tend to pirate. of course it is only rumors I heard, you know that m0o, Evol or RKK pirates. 
the only way to really get good mining is to dominate the system and make peace with the locals, at least some of them. Bring a Corp Battlefleet capable of blasting pirates and pay a small fee to the allainces merely beucase it cuts down on some enemies that might try to gank you.
Worse case sinario take 10 people out with lots of fire power and just go mine some where, most allainces wont really bring a war to you for that. most allainces can't with all their PvP folk already forceing them into long drawn out endless allaince wars. smart and diabolical corps can just go and take what they want as long as their blob can hold the system while they mine.
smart allainces keep to thier own space and use their PvPers to kill pirates and miners seeking to take local ore. so far Fountain is about the only "smart" allaince left. though I guess since the Venal Pheonix group was attacked they are off the hook as they are merely defending their space.

Nobody offers mining passes. If they did the passes would cost so much that you'd be better off buying the minerals in Empire.

the "CFS" regions (FA protectorates now) are pretty much the only places in 0.0 that you can mine without anyone getting on your ass about it. Other then that, as far as I know, None of the 'real' alliances offer an mining passes, since they're counter-productive, and not economical to the alliances.

the "CFS" regions (FA protectorates now) are pretty much the only places in 0.0 that you can mine without anyone getting on your ass about it. Other then that, as far as I know, None of the 'real' alliances offer an mining passes, since they're counter-productive, and not economical to the alliances.

Your best bet is Delve, Period Basis, or Querious, as they are all open regions.
Just follow the locals' rules, which usually includes not popping asteroids, and you should be fine.

mining passes can be bought in the tribute region, talk to a ceo of a corp in ganksta nation.
as to how they work u buy an alotted amount of time, the corps within that alliance space ur mining in gives ur corp a positive standing. both sides r happy

We (Evolution) arnt pirating, we are just doing what you have suggested to Akela and controlling the system/area and mining. .
I agree however that it would be a dangerous to mine in those areas. Alliances are by nature protective of there high end ores as why should they go and defend and area and let any1 mine and take there resouces.
I would recommend Delve and Period Basis areas, but you will have to watch out for C4 and CA wandering in, not to mention the NPC Battleships.

CFS space is free to use for npc hunting and mining..(querious, period basin and delve regions)
only problem is getting in.
CA, m0o sometimes and other pirates often cam pthe A2 gate, but its ok to go thru when the local alliances r gaurding it.
