this would bring so much more to eve. Not just being in a ship, but actually being able to dock on planets in large cities. Or even owning and/or governing them. This i think would bring more people to eve and keep the people we have now in awe at what eve is capable of doing. PLEASE read and comment. I want to know if i think alone

I agree with you, but take a good look at most planets in eve and you'll notice 99.9% of them are cold and barren, with hardly any atmosphere.
Even some of the stats on the homeworlds are bad. Luminaire 3/4 are NOT nice places to live.

Well they do say EVE is a cold harsh universe for a reason.

I don`t know. Here we play space pilots, flying around and minding their... well, space business... one that ordinary people, living down there on the planets cannot. Some sort of exploring and exploiting *inhabited* planets might be interesting add-on, but I`m not so sure about the rest. Docking in large cities would probably give us the same options as docking on stations so I don`t see any real purpose in it. And owning/managing our own cities is completely another sort of game imo. I think it would be best for us (and CCP) to stay focused on Eve as it is.

from The Drawingboard
Planetary Governor
The probable first step for planetary interaction, where you can manage planets from a Station or other suitable structure.
Planetary Explorer
This would feature flying over planets and interacting with the planetary surface. This will likely follow on from Simple Planetary Interaction.
Planetary Commander
Planetary RTS or other hybrid game form. Yarr. The long-term crazy professor phase of planetary interaction.

Ok just hear me out you don't have to dock in cities if that's not your preference, but how can you say people living on the the planets would not or should not be a part of this game. I see eve as a ever growing society. And if you could actually get out of you ship walk around or just switch into a land-cruiser or boat/sub. There are already people doing contracts for money. Mining for money. Pirating for money. We do this to gain power, So why couldn't we (not sure on how you would be made eligible) be given the option to earn money through polotics and economy.

This is way offtopic, but from that drawingboard page: Mini-EVE An EVE-themed mini-game that can be played inside EVE to pass the time, and will be tied into other areas of gameplay where appropriate.
Doesn't that strike anyone as hilariously recursive? I'm playing EVE in EVE in EVE in EVE!
Vote for Karille next CSM cycle. Forum players need a voice too. |

In other words you want a new game that looks like EVE, plays somewhat like EVE, but isn't really EVE because you're bored of EVE. Yeahh.. I too, hope they expand the game by releasing incomplete feature after feature, ensuring there's no depth in any one part of the game.
Hey, maybe we'll be able to do barrel rolls.

The way to make this more realistic and difficult to achieve would be to tie the ability to land on a planet into a skill set for planetary navigation. This might allow the rest of us to laugh our arses off when mr new player burns up in the atmosphere.
I think landing on planets is useful, for resources etc, but not sure I would want something like Tabula Rasa added to the game, it would get too big and bloated.
Limitations for EVE reasons such as mining rare resources for new ships, maybe the development of new materials found on these planets could enhance the game without removing the focus from what EVE actually is.
There are lots of ways to do this, especially if you look into the technical angle.
Cheers

They were promising this since... Red Moon Rising
From RMS Revelations I - Nope Revelations II - Nope? (Revelations III) <-- this proposed update was the one where that feature was supposed to come out , It hasn't came out.
Trinity - Nope Empyrean Age - Nope Quantum Rise - Nope
I wonder when they'll release "Revelations III" ?

It is always been CCP's wish/ dream to bring EVE up to a full fledged all around sci-fi environment, including stations environments, including planet interactivity incl.... whatever.
Stop thinking so close minded. Limited within the current box.

No Karille i am simply saying lets advance eve into the next stage. Where options are endless. This update would( I think ) would give new people a chance to gain a foot hold in unexplored territory. The dream Game will consist of limitless barriers as if you were playing in a real world, but the only way to there is to step forward or in your words eve in eve in eve.

CCP has said their vision for Eve is a "sci-fi simulator", not just a spaceship simulator. Eventually this sort of thing will be possible, probably several years after Walking In Stations, which is another step on the path to "sci-fi simulator". It's coming--just don't hold your breath, because it's probably at least 2-3 years away.
I do agree anything to make Eve a richer, more immersive setting is good. Right now planets are just spheres with ugly, blurry textures and they feel like spheres with ugly, blurry textures, not planets.

I heard something about them working on a feature that would allow you to descend into atmosphere of a planet and look at stuff on its surface like cities, bodies of water, mountains, forests, and in sheriff's case, bunnies.
