Originally by: small chimp Some people like to use this for lvl4.
But how can people kill the long range rats with only t1 named pulses and without an ab?
The damage and tracking may be good? But does that advantage get lost with poor range?
I run a Abaddon/Dominix mission pair right now, and honestly, It works far less well than an Apoc/Domi pair.
The Abaddon has much better DPS, but the cap efficiency is anemic. For some missions that a strongly tanked Apoc would laugh at, I actually have to warp out then back in with the Abaddon.
Since the Abaddon / Apoc act as the anvil for the hammer of the Domi's t2 large drones, and the Domi is fitted with 5x cargo expander II's (over 2000m3 cargo, heh) and 3x tractor and 3x salvager, this gets annoying at times.
Well, having said that, the Abaddon is great for the less tank-required missions. I fit it as follows:
Highs = 4x T2 tachyon 4x T2 Megapulse
For the Tachyons: I carry Gleams for those times when I am within 30 or so KM of a large ship that has a very low transverse velocity. I also carry Multifreq, Standard, and Amarr Navy Radio. Most of the time, I just keep standards in the lasers, as they are effective at pretty much all ranges that NPC's choose to engage at.
Scorch T2 crystals do quite nicely for damage and range even on an Abaddon, if you can fit them. I use these at all times, except when within 15km or so of a target, or when killing off extreme distance targets, in which case I'll fit the amarr navy radios mentioned above.
When destroying structures, I move the ship to 15km and swap to all Multifreq - no need to burn up faction crystals on something that isn't shooting back.
Mids = 4x cap recharger 2's
Lows = Amarr Navy lg repper, 4x faction rat-specific hardeners, damage control, and Power Diag 2
Rigs = 2xCCC I and 1x SMC I This setup is almost cap stable if I keep away from the multifreqs and gleams, but nothing even close to a good Apoc fit.
The Apocalypse is a far better longterm tanking ship. This is how I typically fit mine.
Highs: 6x T2 Mega Pulse and 2x Caldari Navy Cruise Launchers
Crystals selection exactly as noted above: Scorch, multi, standard, and Amarr Navy Radio.
Cruise missile types vary by mission. The Apoc gets no damage bonus for lasers, so the cruise missile launchers with their ability to fire Kin/Exp missiles is rather nice, though less nice now with changes to missiles. They also use no cap at all.
Mids: Afterburner II and 3x Cap recharger II OR 4x Cap recharger II
Lows: 2x Amarr Navy Large Repper, 4x rat specific faction hardeners, 1x DC II
Rigs: 3x CCC I
This ship is cap stable for several minutes even with afterburner running, both reppers running, and multifreqs in the lasers. With the 4x Cap recharger midslot setup, I cannot drain the cap no matter what I do.
These setups are designs that I use in conjunction with a t2 large drone capable Dominix pilot. The Domi has craptank, but does mount a large repper in case it picks up a bit of aggro. Launch t2 large drones -> Guard <x> -> start looting and salvaging while the drones and Amarr battleship slaughter everything.
