And strangely enough, that is a defense for copyright infringment in some cases.
But I'd assume they have this covered somehow. It's a little too obvious a copy job for a company to rely on the 'nobody will notice' chance.

I'm no lawyer or even an internet lawyer, but what do you do? You can't get any money because they don't charge so do you go tell them to give you credit for some of the pictures that may be just placeholders? If they charge players or get advertising dollars then it is a entirely different deal.
If I were CCP, I'd let them use whatever images they wanted as long as they kept an EVE advertisement on the site 24/7. --

CCP should contact them and let them use them for exchange to a quick splash screen on launch that says "eve-online assets used in this game" or something. Free publicity is never a bad thing.

Given that CCP developed the graphics, the artwork within the game is owned by them- using that artwork is still illegal.
Plus, that Sins map looks like they maybe ripping off more then the artwork from EVE, possibly even the underlying engine.

Problem is that at least in the US if you don't fight for copyright infringement you can lose your copyright protection later on.

As to the freebieness, I imagine they currently are trying to make money through it for advertising or otherwise, if not subscriptions, so there's probably some argument to be made for infringement _____________________

Oh I'm not trying to legitimize it I'm just saying that the temptation is very strong as artwork is the thing that can make or break a game no matter how fun the gameplay it and its also the thing that eats up the moast development time and budget. By filching others artwork they probably saved a year minimum on getting the game from idea to implimentation. Too bad all that will have went for nothing after the legal eagles swoop in.
