I just recently looked into sinking a large amount of isk into faction blasters.
Just before I did it was brought to my attention that while they may have a larger damage mod and such they will not benefit from the blaster specialization skill and therefore will end up being less effective then the T2 ones I already have.
This strikes me as odd because that effectively makes 99% of faction weapons useless to those using T2.
I really think that faction weapons should benefit from the blaster specialization skill. Otherwise arent they just really expensive paperweights?
If I have missed something please let me know.

If you look you'll find it's considerably better than t2 even factoring the skills into account because you have lower fitting requirements for faction weapons. Chances are you'll have an extra low slot because you don't need that cpu or powergrid upgrade and you can use a damage mod instead.

I can fit a full rack of T2 Neutron Blasters without a single fitting mod.

I think T2's extra skill req's are the real advantage of faction weapons. You can get more or less T2 damage without the ultra long training times.

Then wouldn't it make sense to add a factional variant of the T2 weapons? Let 'em be 2 or 5 or however many times more expensive than regular faction weps.

No. The faction variants are there solely for the reasons Odizzido stated.

Ok, so someone is going to pay, in some cases, more then the cost of most Battleships for each weapon just so they can do near T2 damage?
If they have the cash to spend on faction weapons they probably have T2 capability.
And if that is the case, it still should be changed because faction stuff is supposed to be like uber cool elite gear, but in weapons case its just training wheels to T2.

People use CN Launchers on their ravens/etc because it's better. People use AN Tachyons on their Paladins/Nightmares because it's better. People are willing to pay that much to have that advantage, both fittings and near-t2 dps.

It takes a set amount of time to get skills for T2 weapons. It does not take a set amount of time to make money (well, at least, it takes much less time). I've made enough ISK to buy a full set of CN launchers on my missioning bird several times over... I'm nowhere near T2 launchers.

I'm pretty sure even with maxed specialization skills.. the faction guns have a faster ROF than that of T2 weapons, giving them the edge on dps.

Really
if you have ADVANCED blasters lvl 4 (+8%)
That should apply to t1 and faction guns aswell, because its your skill to operate the items that increases with that skill.
