"But the game is more like a benevolent dictatorship than a real democracy. Although the council is elected democratically, CCP is not obliged to approve their requests."
Which is cool by me, cause otherwise we would be flying solopwnmobiles that fart ISK.
The article is good, apart from the pic near the bottom. That made me sick.

Edited by: Chen Ling on 16/12/2008 15:24:51 Good article, but...
Why, oh why, oh why do Blizzard get some free logo space, and there's not an EVE-O logo in sight? Disgustastic.
Got to love this:
Quote: EVE also differs from online multiplayer games where players can choose to avoid interacting with other people.
"CCP calls those kind of games 'massively single player' because they end up being a solo experience that you lose yourself in," explained Mr Rossignol. "In EVE's case, the philosophy has always been human interaction."

How is that any different than real life democracy? :)

Good timing that the article about the CSM that was bought in to fix one scandel in the game comes out just as another hits the game.
I wonder if they will do a followup with what's come to light in the last week ?

We don't get to vote Devs out of a job. I imagine the collection of heads in the garbage can out back would be impressive, and depressing, after a while. In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

I doubt it. That article was probably gathering dust till a slow news day hit.
Vote for Karille next CSM cycle. Forum players need a voice too. |

Well, they put the box picture up because they are saying how WoW DOESN'T have a democracy.
But they should at least put the EVE-online logo in the picture at the top -------------------------------------

The article is a joke. If it was a democracy then CCP woukld be releasing the exploiters names today because its clear thats what the "elected" people wanted.
If you think corp is different than a guild or clan you have some insecurity issues.

Sigh... reading skills?
Quote: "They have a voice, not a vote," explained Mr Oskarsson. CCP must be autocratic because there are technological limits to what the developers can do, said Jim Rossignol, the author of This Gaming Life, who writes about the role of videogames in society.

Exactly... If it were a democracy, a call for transparency would be answered.
There is no real world democracy, no one gets to vote on everything a government does, most of us live in democratically elected republics, and eve isn't like that either. Eve is more like Saudi Arabia: A King, a royal family that make decisions, a "parliment" with no power and a devoted semi-fanatical playerbase.

Read it. Meh. Just one of those fillers, when there is nothing better to put there, grab one of these from the bin and presto, article.
Also it's not complete, or so it feels, should have better info imho and more details and some references more, people of the CSM .. you know, stuff like that.

You must be young
Only someone with the naivety of youth could think that democracy=transparency.
You think the UK government is transparent? The US Govt? The EU? You think that democratically elected governments always do what the electorate want and never what they don't want?

The US goverment (and any of the others) are not true democracies. They are technicaly republics.

^^ This
Exactly what "hot-button" issues were addressed by CCP from the first CSM? The second issue brought up I think had to do with Black-OP's. That was over a year ago and absolutely nothing has been done about it. That's why I didn't participate, voting just give credence to a council that means nothing.
