I'm still here, been almost 2 years. I'm planning to stick around for tech5 Paradise cruise missiles, remember those?  That means I'll be around a long time.

Kind of yes. Well I joined one of the most highly respected and oldest corps in Eve after beta, played for six months then quit Eve (it got seriously boring). Recently returned to see what its like again with a new character. Still just a huge real-life time sink.

I am an old beta vet. Did take 6 months off not too recently bc real life got the better of me then computer games. i missed apocaplypse day or whatever they called it.

Joined Beta in feb/mars with the introduction of beta Phase 6, took a 2 week vacation after Armageddon day and then started up in retail.
I might have taken 2-3 week's of vacation since then, but otherwhise I'm ingame 3-10h every day...
Our corp was born in the old betadays and we are still sticking together, with some newer members/addicts that have joined our ranks

Armageddon day! When I flew my apoc all the way to minmatar space, mindlessley shot everyone, then self-destructed in a blaze of glory, 10 seconds from the end of everything!
And actually, CCP lie about the first character created. It was me, creating a character illicitly, after logging into the brand new resetted server before they had a chance to sort it out properly.

Memory Lane:
1) No man's land between every region? Made inter-regional a adventure, going AFK while traveling (sans auto pilot and highways in those days) a seriously stupid thing to do.
2) Pirates at almost every gate, can't remember if it was every gate below .9 or .7?
3) Near the end of beta the day they put cruiser pirates at all the gates of low sec systems. Being stuck in a system for 2 days with no stations and 1 gate, because my little probe couldn't make it past the 4 NPC cruiser.....LOL

From beta 5. Got an account a week after launch. (kicks UPS)
I quit for a while for 2 or 3 months, but let a real-life friend maintain my account. Came back a few months ago.
I plan on staying until they stop maintaining it. Unless they just screw it up beyond playability. I've already got alot invested in my chicky, and it's still the best MMO on the market IMO. I still play other ones though. 
Also has the best community as well. Sure there's the ****-heads and morons, but they just add a little comic relief. The devs have begun to communicate more, and I have a feeling they'll keep it up. That's more than I can say for any other MMO I play.

Retail wasnt avaliable in Australia so i went away for over a year, now back and nearly 3 months in.

For all it's flaws/shortcommings (and which game hasnt), EVE is *the* most 'versatile' game around - this is where EVE truly shines.
Nothing comes close IMO.
If you disagree, I'll venture the opinion that its not the game, but your imagination that is lacking.
Will EVE ever be 'perfect' - Hell no. There will always be something 'not quite right' (or plain broken) - But this is by far overshadowed by the things that *are* 'quite right'.

Armageddon day was sweet, it was so laggy trying to join it, actually got in an the funny thing was you were given 500mil well I bought tons of items an my alt had another 500mil more w00t!

Took a few months off after that and came back before xmas last year.
i still remember fighting on armageddon day and then trying to head all the way to New Eden just before the servers closed. Then i hoped onto the dev server and completed the journey

Too bad there wasn't a reseller in The Netherlands from the start, I missed most of the first week becouse the CD had to come from England... But I plan on staying around for a while longer

Anyone remember when they first put in rogue drones and they spawned in mass numbers, and I mean mass numbers, like into the hundreds?
And when concord was first put in, and they killed anyone?

Yeah, there was some extreme lag involved too, apparently it was overloading the server and they had to shut it down to manually remove them.

Yeah, there was some extreme lag involved too, apparently it was overloading the server and they had to shut it down to manually remove them.

Beta 6, then took a loooooong break until after Castor. It's MUCH better now. Can't wait till Shiva though.

Tested under the forum name half_face with characters bob, bob1, bob2, etc. Beta teting became a very strange obsession indeed, particularly as I work in IT anyway and then came home and started testing for fun! |
