Stand on the bridge? Dude, you're a Capsuleer, you *are* the bridge. Controlling the ship is part of your body function.

As for the play style, I've done the twitch thing. Even got damned good at it. Carpal Tunnel, baby, ain't it ****ing grand? EVE's controls aren't the greatest thing since sliced bread, more like an MMORTS, which is fine in its own way, but it gets the job done well enough.
What's funny about this is this is exactly why I came back to eve. Doctor told me I needed to lay off gaming because it was agrivating my shoulder. I tried quitting completely, but sorry, I need an escape, TV and books just don't cut it. Eve is slow paced enough that I am not in pain while playing with my messed up shoulder. I actually have the patience to figure the game out this time around too. So now I understand why people enjoy the game.
But to the OP, that's alot of crying over spilled milk, you did something dumb, suffered the repricussions and now you should learn and move on.

Eve is a free form structure as to play style... except for missions which are scripted of course. As such Eve is what you make it to be for your self. Further, it is social in that what you make of it also depend on what your corporate members are involved in as well. That said, if you don't like the virtual world you have found yourself in then change it to anything you think you would like. The beauty of a free form like this is the endless possibilities... however... it also means you have to put something into it to make it happen... its not gonna be scripted for you. So, I'd say you need some change in your world there. Best wishes and good luck.

Ah... yep, another twitch-kiddie goes away. Better that you realize this isn't your kind of game earlier than that, but oh well.
Really, this game is for people who are more likely to play Homeworld than Freespace. Or, hey, the X-series isn't too far off, is it?
I mean, I know Sundog. I loved all the classic sim games, too. But I also play strategy games, so EVE is not 'boring' to me. If you came in and sat in the captain's chair of your own starship, expecting to be a fighter pilot, then of course you'll be disappointed.
Also, could you imagine trying to get a TITAN to turn using a joystick?! My hand would get tired after a few minutes, and I'd still have an hour to get my fat-@$$ facing that battleship. I suppose it'd be neat for a Frigate, but these are warships. They do not turn on a dime.

Why do some people whine and cry about losing a single ship? I've lost near 100 ships and some to insanely dumb bugs and not even loading the battlefield and you whine about a tech 1 ship loss?
There isn't a single player in EVE that hasn't died a very embarrassing death. Get a grip.

I agree with the OP I think he should remember the good old days, download Elite and start playing that again.
From the sounds of it you wont miss all the complexities of EVE, and then you wont need to struggle trying to make sense of it all.
I think its best all round. 
Did you play the game for 8months or did you train skills for 8months.
There is so much in EVE for a soloish player to do, Become a trade tycoon, become an industrialist, invention, exploration, scam artist, missioner, pirate I mean its basically whatever youy want, every day I logon to EVE I can do something different, what oter game out there offers that much?
You think if your playing wow or whatever you have more choice because you directly control the movements of your char?
(I normally dont respond to such posts, but saying EVE sucks and then giving such utter rubbish as reasons  )

Wrong! Read the backstory. You're floating in a goo-filled capsule hooked up to wires. There are no shouted orders. There are crew, but they're in the bowels of the ship doing mundane things, not working in a non-existent "bridge".
So what you see in Eve pretty much is a simulator. Your character sees the ship from outside via a camera drone.
You are right about the ships not being controlled via a joystick like a fighter. You're wrong about them being controlled via a captain sitting in a chair giving orders to a crew like on Star Trek.

Besides most of the emorage soppy stuff, the point about not being able to fly ships properly is kinda spot on. I think most of us when we started playing were dissapointed that we cldnt even use the arrows to direct the ship.
But still, point n click allows for advanced options in other areas e.g. click orbit, control range etc. This wld be very hard with controlled flight!
