The interesting thing is I can run two clients just fine when one of them is my test server client and one is the live server client. It seems to only be when I have two clients going on the same server that the lag sets in hardcore.
Could the others in this thread test that please? Try to run two clients with one on Singularity and one on Tranquility. See if the bad lag persists with the clients set up that way.
If we confirm that the lag is only when the multiple clients are attempting to access the same server (and thus, the same install of EVE) then we're a step closer to figuring out what the problem is. Or rather, CCP could be a step closer. Every little bit helps.

Vista Ultimate 64-bit Core 2 Quad Q6600 4GB DDR2 RAM GeForce 8800 GTX
First couple of hours of play is fine, but after that performance begins to degrade. At first I get about 1/2 second total freeze every few minutes - no big deal. But it quickly becomes more frequent and for longer. Pretty soon it's 5 to 10 seconds total freeze every 1 to two minutes. The game essentially becomes unplayable.
However, I don't have to reboot to fix. I just quit the game and let it close out, wait maybe 30 seconds for the hard-drive to stop churning, then restart the game and it's fine. And then the process repeats.
It boils down to me having to just restart the game every 2 hours or so.
I suppose it's not a horrible thing. I use that opportunity to get up, stretch my legs, and generally take a 10 min break from the game. So maybe CCCP has my best interst at heart and is forcing me to take breaks!!
EDIT: Forgot to mention... I played the game for about a month a couple of years ago using XP SP2, crappy video card, etc. The same thing happened back then and I eventually completely quit the game because it got so annoying. I figured with a entirely new computer, O/S, video, and the fact 2 years had passed might fix it. Alas. I hope it doesn't drive me to giving up again, because I really enjoy the game.
Your problem sounds more like a memory leak than anything else. Try checking your RAM usage while you're in the game, and see if it slowly creeps up over time. It's not quite the same problem we're having here with the absurdly low framerates but it might be related.

Alright, I have a tentative workaround for this. So far I've been running stable for about 30 minutes with two accounts.
For my alternate account, I copied my EVE folder and used the copied folder to log in. Using a different install of EVE for each client open seems to eliminate the horrific lag issue that I was having. I hope this information helps CCP figure out what's going on, and helps you guys to run multiple accounts while they fix it. |

Well, I don't know what to tell you. I ran two clients for over six hours last night smooth as silk using a different install of EVE for each one. It seems to have eliminated the lag problem completely. |

If you're running milti-client on more than one monitor.
Make sure no client windows (INCLUDING BORDERS) are on more than one screen, this can induce MASSIVE lag, if it happens on my PC I drop from 40FPS on a pair of prem clients to about 2 FPS and massive lag on the client who's window is spanning more than one monitor. ---O-H--S-H-*-T---

I have the same problem running 2 clients at once. Infuriating is an understatement.
PVP in EVE is fast paced and I cannot afford to have lag like this for NO bloody reason midway through combat. |

Edited by: Solant on 13/01/2009 02:20:03 This is a *big* problem, and needs to be addressed THIS PATCH.
I have been plagued by this since I returned from the game. It "feels" like a memory leak, and it "behaves" like a memory leak too, because it gets worse the longer you play. Since realizing this I have gotten into the habit of quitting both of my clients and reloading them any time I am engaging in pvp combat. I don't know about anyone else but 5-10 seconds of video lag (or at least what appears to be video lag) every time I Show Info a pilot, load the starmap, move my camera, hover over a dropdown item in space, etc etc the list of triggers goes on and on. ESPECIALLY showing info on pilots seems to cause massive slowdowns in this regard. Please explain to me why loading information so simple from the DB is so taxing on my machine? How has this changed from EVE Classic? Why is it so bloated now? Why is it, honestly, that I order to see what corp someone is in and what their sec status is, I have to load up their huge portrait file and wait 2-5 seconds for the game to stop dry heaving the data in order for my video card to catch up?
This issue is easily duplicated for me; I play the game for an hour, then I try to "Show Info" on any pilot, and everything just goes to hell for 10 seconds. Another easy trigger- MARKET Market Details tab. It really seems like this issue is based under data being sought on the database, maybe somewhere between locating the data and providing it to the client? It is defenitely NOT a directly video related issue, because other than these hiccups EVE is running at about 80-90 FPS on both clients simultaneously for me. My computer has no performance issues with this game.
Fix needed, ccp. Fix needed. |

Running two premium clients on two monitors from the same directory here.
Vista Home Premium 64 bit SLI 8800GTS 640s. dual core 3.0ghz 1333 fsb, blah blah blah....
I decoupled the cards and am running one client on each card. FPS is fine, usually hovers around 100 or so when I bother opening the fps monitor. Poster above mentioned a problem with lag spikes when opening info windows. I had the same problem where both my clients would freeze for about 15-30 seconds if I opened info or went through a stargate on either one. I cleared my cache and both clients run smoothly now (cache folder was something like 260mb).
Anywhoo, I tried running two premium clients both on the same card and on different cards. Everything works fine. So at least from my perspective there is a level of hardware where running multiple eve clients works fine.

Similar problem here, but with only 1 client. New computer with new parts running 1 eve client. The dips in framerate occur about every 15-30 seconds and last about 10 seconds. The normal framerate is at about 500, but the degraded framerate during dips can go down to around 10 or lower.
My rig:
- 2gb ram
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ (~3.0GHz) GeForce 9600 GT w/ 512mb onboard
This problem is SUPER frustrating, and I've probably spent 15+ hours switching out drivers, memory sticks, etc.
CCP, please throw us a bone here.

Well, since my last post I've been running two clients from two different directories. Two days ago I ran two clients for ~15 hours solid with no issues to speak of. This is odd, because before (as others have mentioned) it was behaving just like a memory leak, but you'd think the degradation would be even faster with multiple clients running from multiple directories if it was, in fact, a memory leak. This isn't proving to be the case, so I really don't know what's going on with it now.

Edited by: Kluten on 14/01/2009 18:14:13 So my problem is still here It happens when i run 2 clients at the same time, and as explained several times i could run 4 clients before QR patch / Speed patch:
My opinion is that this is a software fault because i dont have any problems with other games in windows mode. Dual
So this is what i have tried so far: Operating systems: Windows Xp SP3 Windows Vista SP1 WIndows 7 Beta version
What Hardware i Have: MSI P6N SLI Mother board Nvidia Geoforce 8800 GT 2 x 500 Raptor Disc 4 gig ram Quadcore Cpu 2.4 ghz
What options Tried: Only one monitor with 2 clients in full screen alt tabbing /failed Disabeled all sound inc tweaking inifile disabeling eve voice /failed 1 client in each dir on separate disk eg c: and d: /failed calssic client in each dir and on separate disks /failed Rollback on Nvida drivers to 175 and older /failed Cheked with MSi tech support for BIOS update and 100% sure of lates drivers /failed Used Nhancer and tried all trics related to that . Trien all compability optiosn /failed Reduced colour depth down to abselout bsaics etc /failed Checked that SLI is turned off and AA is of /failed
So CPP I have run out of option im sry to say What more can I do ? It must be a software fault somwhere thats my humble oppinion

My problem is SOLVED !
Well i'm a bit to tell you this but after contacting Nvida and MSI i got the this tip Please be sure your CPU cooler and GPU coller is free of dust
Well I opened my pce and i found that ps PC's cpu ribbons was clouded with dust The same on the GPU I cleaned them with air and a va****cleaner and fired up the PC
NO LAG Even runnign 2 clients in window mode !
The Nvida tech told me that the gpu will reduce speed if there is a possibillity for overheat`and it is very very sensetive to that This is also true for the cpu who also has a overheat security feature
So a simple PC clean made my lag and drop in framerate dissapear and i'm so happy
Could this be you problem too ??

I've done what did u counsel: cleaned up CPU, changed the place where my computer stood becoz the air diffuser of my PC was in fornt of partition of my table and it's work, lag and freezes are gone. I've done a mission with two client running up without any problem. Thanks a lot Kluten u found the great solution exactly where the problem is and saved my nerves... |

I have the same problem just running one client. Every minute (yup, exactly every minute on the second) the client freezes for a second or two. I'll try the cleaning guff tomorrow but doubt it'll help... I already set the GPU fan to 100% manually and all it did was to raise the noise level :P

Same problem here. Cannot tell this happens every minute, but in different time frames for me. Also, the lag is not 1-2 seconds, but maybe half a second - this does not make it less annoying.
Besides that, I still have FPS issues with 2 clients. My hardware should be very good to handle higher FPS, but what I experience is: Sometimes, not always, the FPS drops. With 2 clients, I have both at 15-20 FPS when I use the client on the main monitor. If I make the second client on monitor 2 as the active window, than this client will go up to 50-60 fps, while client 1 stays at the same FPS level.
Setup: Intel E6750, 4 GB RAM, HD 3850 GFX, Win XP. A single client runs at 100+ FPS btw. --- IGS Website | Killboard | Game-Time Cards |

Did a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit Beta and am now running EVE with 80 FPS more (140 now, 60 before) and no freezes.

This IS a eve problem no question about that Is there a solution avaiable ?
Is there anyone running windows Xp that has this problem ?

I have experienced significant lag lately on my client. I have multiple client running and could support upto four clients without an issue prior to quantum rise. Now, when I try to run just two clients, the EVE clients are very unresponsive and the mouse slows down significantly, as if I were using graphics over a very slow link for remote control of a Windows workstation. I lowered the cache size setting to 32MB as I noted that it increased in value. My clients are windowed mode. I don't play EVE much anymore, so I can't say if I expereince lag in any part of the game outside the station. I'm thinking of slapping in a better video card with more Video Ram on it to see if that helps.
Vista Ux64 XP1 4GB Ram Intel Core 2 6400 Nvidia 7950 GX2 w/ 178.13
swapped out my 7950 for an 8800u and the lag is no longer an issue on this machine. |

I tried messing around with a few settings to see if anything might improve it, but nothing does. I tried:
1. Turned off/on all premium content 2. Lowered/Raised cache 3. Played in Windowed/fullscreen mode.
None of these seem to make a difference, it still happens.
Per someone's suggestion, I also checked the memory usage when it was getting worse. The game does slowly use more RAM as time goes on, however it is nowhere near the limit. Out of 4GB it might be using about 800MB, and I'll be sitting at more than 1.8GB free.
For the heck of it, I loaded the game on a totally separate machine (laptop running Vista Business 64-bit, 2GB RAM, Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2GHz cpu, ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 video card). It also had the same issue and did the same thing after a while!

bump
This is happening to me when I run 2 clients as well. Intermittent freezes on both clients, starting after playing for about 1-2 hours and getting increasingly frequent the longer I play. Quitting both clients and starting over gives me another couple hours of decent play time.
CCP, can you confirm whether you are considering this to be an active bug? Have you been able to reproduce it?

It could be a file access problem as well. Has anyone tried to use 2 different installs? I mean have one install at C:\EVE1 and C:\EVE2 ?
