Edited by: Circle on 22/12/2008 17:14:00 So I just built a Cap stable (52%) mission rokh. I am able to solo some lvl IV's and am having a good time. Now I have all my core engineering skills to IV, all my gunnery support skills to lvl IV, all learning to lvl IV, and the ships I'm using I have to lvl IV for caldari shield resistances along with decent drone skills for those pesty frigs.
Here is my delma. Do I stay in the caldari Line and invest the 54+ days it takes to get T2 Rails. Or do i head down another path like say the Amarr + beams or gallante + Blasters. I know hybrids are along the same lines as rails but once you start getting into T2 weapons they are WAY diffrent trees.
I guess the reason for this post is I dont want to spend the time to train for the abaddon and beams or the megathron with blasters just to see if I LIKE IT. I am hoping some experienced players out there would point me in the right direction. I really like the Blasterthrons, but the Nightmare really has my eye (caldari + amarr + beams)
Just so you know what my plans are... around 10million SP's i want to do heavy PVP. I know i can PvP in an EW frig or something but i still want to wait till I am decently invested in SP's. Since im a new player still learning the game I have reserved the first few months to for PvE and to create a "bank roll" to support my PvP. In every MMO i am pulled to the PvP, PvE is just a means to support it :) so now that you know what my delma is and where i want to go let me know what you suggest :)
Thank you for your time :) Testing |

train all races friggs, including gunnery/missile and try them out.
the sooner you get into pvp the sooner you will find out if you like to be a sitting rock or a fast toilet paper roll, or if you like to kill things before they come close or if you like to exchange paint with them.
no, rails and blasters are the same tree, only short or long range. both gallente and caldari gunboats have bonuses for both, as they are all hybrid weapons.

Go for t2 rails first and improve what you have.
Then start looking at what else you want, the nightmare is very nice but its going to take you a long time to get it. You might like to go for the golem, less training and very good at missions.

No other suggestions? I was looking for something a little more solid. Testing |

Go Rails + Blasters first. Once you train up the pre-reqs for those two you'll already have the pre-req's for ALL OTHER T2 PROJECTILES other than the racial turret to lvl 5.
I'd say go t2 Rails then go t2 blasters (all the way up to large for both). After you get those pre-req's trained it's easy to just hop over to the other racial turrets. At that point you won't worry about making the decision cause the training time doesn't seem as daunting.
You're already in Caldari. You can continue going that way or switch to an entire race entirely. I opted to switch to an entire race entirely just to try them out (even if I didn't have t2 stuff). You could always use T1 equipment to try it out... ---

It depends on your playing style. Rails and Blasters do have different prereqs, but the skills are useful for both weapon trees, so there is no loss of time. The hardest part of deciding what to fly is picking what YOU feel comfortable flying.
oh... cap stable and pvp don't usually go together.... you'll need a cap booster. And at 10 mil SP, why not look at going into a T2 cruiser instead of a BS? More options, less training time and considerably faster

You're going to want Sharpshooter V and Motion Tracking V anyway, so the only optional pre-requisites for the T2 guns are getting the turret variety skills to V and then getting the specializations to IV. Large Hybrid V (or Energy Turret V or Projectile V) will take a good 3 weeks or so, but the other prerequisites don't take too too long. Why not train rails and blasters both?
From another point of view, take my situation. I am an Amarr pilot, have spent about a year just on Amarr ships. Tomorrow I'll get Amarr Battleship V and will be able to fly my ships with almost perfect skills. However, I have no shield skills or missile skills to speak of, so in 2009 my plan is to cross-train to Caldari in order to work on those support skills. (Maybe in 2010 I will train Gallente stuff like drone skills and by 2011 I will finally consider myself competent to fly an Arbitrator.) My point is that training another race means more than just training different guns. If you switch to Gallente or Amarr you'll have to train armor tanking, drone, and capacitor skills that are less relevant for Caldari and Minmatar. That takes a long time, but makes you stronger in the end. So you've got to decide what you want to do.
............. Now recruiting like-minded pilots. |

Follow up to Joe Starbreaker's post - when you finally do cross train to a different race, you still have all the previous skills you trained (duh). So training time is no where near as long. All those cap skills/engineering skills etc still help you out when you fly other races ships.
I went Amarr -> Caldari -> Minmatar -> Gallente. Amarr took forever to train, Caldari took a while to train, Minmatar didn't take long (already had armor/shield/missile/projectile skill), Gallente didn't take long at all!
Support skills support all ships to an extent. ---

Edited by: abrasive soap on 23/12/2008 01:58:23 You don't need a lot of sp to pvp. You can start pvp'ing with sub 1 million sp and still win fights. Waiting for 10 million sp just to pvp is absurd.
As for what you should train for, aim for tech 2 medium guns first because you will use them the most. Aim to get into a completely tech 2 fit battlecruiser. From there, either go for hac's/recons or tech 2 large turrets. You will end up using battlecruiser and below sized ships more often than you will use battleships in pvp (seriously, who cares about missions).
I also recommend cross training gallente tech 1 cruisers if you enjoy low sec solo pvp. If you don't like this idea, you can cross train projectiles and use the hurricane with a shield tank.

Rokh is a wonderful, if expensive and bricky, battleship and yes, you should stick by it. Large Hybrid V will give you access to both T2 rails and blasters, and it excels with both.
