I just ran a complete virus scan of my system with ClamWin. It detected a trojan in EVEMon's Uninstall.exe file.
The infection is identified by ClamWin as Trojan.Agent-65355.
I tried to report this on the EVEMon forum, but it seems to be down at the moment.
Please check your systems and avoid running the EVEMon uninstaller until someone straightens this out.

Linkage
Try scanning the file with this website. It'll scan the file with multiple AV programs and gave you a good indication whether if it's a false positive or not.

Thanks for the link! The site applied 20 virus detectors, and only ClamWin reports any problem.
ClamWin is known to be very conservative. It's PROBABLY safe to assume it's a false positive.

In Before EVEMon Programmers
I wouldnt be surprised, tbh. A whole wealth of information could be obtained on not just EVE-related matters that could be used in EVE-related matters with such a program. -

I have it installed and my credit cards were used without my permission to buy all kinds of holiday gifts for my inlaws, and EVEMon signed my wife's name to the charge slips. It not only know me and my information, but determined who she was and had some optical recognition virus to determine her signature.

Beats the hell out of expensive, crappy, bloated, slow solutions that people use that are not ClamAV. Not to mention, ClamAV doesn't subject users to the same "Symantec has deemed certain applications to be immoral and so we treat them as viruses" treatment.
Sure, it's not as great a solution as not using an MS OS but if you don't have a choice, it's a great direction to go. And if it's too cautious for you, go in and change the settings. -- What's your EVE New Year's Resolution for 2009? |
