How come I can't tractor beam other people's stuff? Everything is setup that if I touch their stuff I could get shot (except salvaging), yet when it comes to tractor beams its just not allowed?
Makes no sense, and yet that seems to be the perfect reason for it I suppose.

griefing purpose i guess...
at least you can (now) tractor ppl¦s stuff within your own fleet :)
sucks when they dock and there is still a big mess to clean up :P

because foom would use it to pull minier's cans from their range and use an AB and run away from the miner as they tow the can saying "catch me, cmon" in local.
Also, here are some more exploits foom would do:
1. using beams to pull peoples wrecks from em rite when they come n range and lol em.
2. you could hold onto a can while someone else pulls a can exponentially increasing velocity.

Add a aggression timer and shoot to kill rights and it's all even right?
I mean, the entire reason I'm asking is that I'm ratting right now, an alliance member came in a shot a few rats and I want to tractor them to salvage instead of ab'ing to them. I would have figured I could have with an alliance member but nooo.
But griefing as a reason? Hell, this entire game is griefing of some sort.

Tractor beams only travel at 500m/s, no matter how fast the ship it is equipped on goes.

Just remove wreck and jetcan ownership.
That would eliminate plenty of issues and misconceptions.

That's cause your using standard cans. If you use the named "Essex Girl" can you will find they go with anyone.

I agree, allow tractoring of wrecks and cans that aren't yours, but make it a hostile act to do so.

make it the same as looting a can or wreck. You get the timer action where they can retaliate.
I'm been going on about this one for years.
we should also be able to tractor secure cans, abandoned drones and corpses.
Would make cleaning up a messy grid much easier.

Would be funny to orbit a miner with his can at 3k
while he chases the can in circles, this may just introduce dancing in game, then they can put it in WIS then i can dance naked for isk!

There is no reason not to do this... if can pulling via a tractor beam is an exploit, then why is can FLIPPING legit? Seems kinda illogical, no?

pipe down about FOOM already please, you've been going on and on about them all the time. i don't know who they are and i really dont care, but the multitude of threads you made the other week have been locked and/or ignored for a reason, you know
also, I agree with the OP - tractoring other people's stuff would be really cool

I do the first one to my corp mates just to screw with them. I think its funny as hell.

and this is why CCP avoided that issue when tractor beams were introduced.....
the grief will be to no end.
as for op.... come on, form a fleet with your friend.... problems solved. the mechanic is there.
this change will only leave to kids/bored people tractoring everybody's can in interceptors XD

funny story, I was in FW for a bit, went out on a roaming op, came across a pirate gang...
We engage said pirate gang, we kill a few, they kill one of our BS, one of their ships went for the loot, but just as he was about to get within range of it, someone hit it with a tractor beam and we got it instead. They ran off shortly after that.
Meh, one of those things you had to be there for.
