Edited by: BOBERR on 25/12/2008 22:21:51 I have to say, the Gallente have some interesting methods.
Interesting too is that we don't really get to see what happened to the Amarr fellow, Im assuming the star has something to do with it.
Will we see more about the newly freed slaves sometime in the future?

Even in that moment, against the greatest history in Federation history, Foiritan could not bring himself to give the order or press the button. The method of execution speaks volumes about the nature of the President, I'm impressed.

Instead of impressing people with the poise of the President, I rather think the intent was to portray the fearsome and dangerous spectre that is mob justice...a public hating as well as execution, 1984 references not coincidental.
Kasroth's death by comparison was almost humane.
Meanwhile, Sarum's emancipation proclimation is just "holy s-"....oh darn, stupid profanity filter. The occasion really calls for good four letter words.
Still, as was mentioned elsewhere, wtf happened to require "Chained to the Sky" be switched out for a different version after it was posted? (Minmatar main character was originaly a Ni-Kunni, the line about the generational cap I don't believe was there...) -----------------------

Great stories. This shows how the gal's passion is their downfall, I mean burning someone to death is an extremely immorale thing to do. You wouldn't see the Caldari tortue by burning somoone to death, they would kill you quick and easy which is the only morale way to kill someone. I often wonder why the 4 races have such different ways of dealing with traitors. Here's my idea: Amarr Reason: God Enemies: kill the non-believers/traitors Punishment: Brutal way of killing, extreme tortue to extract the demons out of the person (exercism?) Caladi Reason: Logic Enemies: They kill those who could/are trying to bring down the state, Anyone who stops them from making the empire stronger Punishment: Firing squad, fact acting lethal drug, anything quick, fast, and painless. They see no reason to cause unnecessary pain. Gal Reason: Passion Enemies: Different opinions and those who try to enslave or take away freedom Punishment: They want the traitor to feel what their punishment is and the want to people of the federation to feel like that the amount of pain decides whether justice has been achieved. Mim Reason: Revenge Enemies:Anyone who has/are taken part in enslaving people and to get payback for being ensaved. Punishment: Savage beatings by humans or animals. I'm a little messed up on ambein but I think its pretty acurate.

A democracy without rules regarding cruel and unusual punishment? How droll... Maybe it isn't such a bad thing that the Caldari are poised to burn the Federation to its foundations.
As for Chained to the Sky, Kor-Azor's been an interesting one. Maybe its time Articio had a novel? In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

Both were good reads, but like many I am having one of those wtf happens next with the storyline.

I think you kind of have the right idea but results may vary.
The Amarr, or rather the stero-typical religious fanatic, are probably not going to actually kill the traitor until they are repentant, death will be an outlet from the pain and torture. The Empress actually determined that the Empire could not redeem the previous Chancellor and so it sounds like they were living it to God, who in the eyes of the Empire was the one most betrayed.
Traitors amongst the Caldari are likely given an option of public execution, as an example to everyone else, or death by their own hand. I do agree however that the public execution will be quick and done by professionals. Now depending on how you think killed off Heth's right hand man causing pain is not necessarily out the window; creating the opportunity for self-assessment and doubt and causing mental anguish before death is very likely. The idea that you have failed the whole in some manner and thus are being killed off.
As for the others, I am not sure.

Nay, it already was; just it normally isn't presented as such.

what struck me most, about two deaths, is the striking difference in class, the two heads of state display, in executing their respective greatest traitor ever...where the gallente president makes a circus show out of the execution, the amarr empress goes about hers, almost matter of factly...have you made your peace with god?...almost epic seems her highness empress jamyl are leages above foiritan, in terms of pure class

The Empress and the President live in completely different systems. So different that you can call them different realities.
From a democratically elected president you expect showmanship. He has to stay in minds of the people all the time as the provider of both bread and games. Gallente people do not generally witness or take part in voilence - yet predisposition to violence is in the basis of human nature. Thus, this execution was sort of catharsis, a safety valve to let go of the anger and hate that the people accumulated, especially after the events that happened on Caldari Prime recently. Isn't it better to have people hate just one individual instead of entire nation? Comparision to the machine of hatered that Tibus started is left as exercise to the reader...
Jamyl is as close to godhood as a mortal can be. She does not need to show herself much, nor make theatrical gestures. It is better for her to act quietly, almost behind the scenes. The empress only needs to be present as a distant, yet constant, voice in the back of each of her subjects head. Only the result of her will, in form of information that something happened is availible to the normal folk. Who are the people to meddle in the affairs of a god?
So, both of them did what they had to, in only way that was possible for them to do it. By using these, and not other methods, they have shown that they are truly of their people.
