Eaxctly what I thought of when I read this post.
Tho, I think is fist price was 120mil
Yep, it was 120m at first.
"Because they're so expensive to build, and it takes so long to build one."
"And no, I can't tell you what you need to build them. NO, I am not making much profit at all from this."
Now they cost what, 3-5m?
Oh well.

Yes, especially when you see it on the list of destroyed items on the Kill Mail

As pointed out, one probably need a Improved Cloaking device, which is stupidly high overpriced, thus the Covert Ops one is aswell.

Cloaking is a very cool trick to have up your sleeve in PvP situations - and warping when cloaked is priceless. Since when do manufacturing costs have any bearing on what a product goes for on the market? Any market. I think it's absolutely great that one can charge exactly what one wants for anything in EVE, as long as people buy at that price then why not? It doesn't matter wether it costs 1 ISK or 100,000,000 ISK to produce, it's the demand that sets the price. The latest BMW model doesn't cost $100,000 to build you know.
Personally I'll have to bite the bullet and wait for the prices to come down a bit because 180 mil is too steep for me (would bankrupt me). But most likely not for others - he should be getting enough orders at that price to set him up for life. Which is exactly what should happen if someone has the good fortune of obtaining such a rare blueprint.

Why shouldn't he be able to charge what he want? the value of a thing isn't calculated from the production cost, but what it is worth for the person that wants it... if he/she want to pay 180mill, then thats exacly what the item is worth..

Sure, unless your locked, or within 10km or an object
Suicide frigs can allready be used to web & Scramble Targets, while your gang uncloaks and waits out their 20 second sensor recalibration (with prototype cloaks) to gank the Target. Any ship can use a (20 mil) Prototype Cloak and Watch gates, or be used as a Target for their Gang to warp to.
Im not sure about this 'warping while cloaked' thing, i haven't used Covert op cloaks on the test server yet. How exactly do you cloak to warp away tho, if your locked in combat? No cloaking when locked still applys to Covert ops, and frigs usually pop soon after they're locked. So unless your Covert frig is ecm/web/scrambling 1v1 with an apponent who doesn't have FoF Missles or large Smartbomb, the benifits and features of this mod simply aren't worth 180 mil.

I couldn't agree more, I've bought Loot with mineral values that wouldn't pay for a shuttle, and am quite happy spending Big on rare/novalty items.
however, i think the original post may have been a little deceptive in order to get extra cash (come on, 24 hr build time on a module?) and the seller didn't need to make excuses to why he's charging so high.
I'll buy one when they're 25 mil and Helios are 25 mil

I remember once seeing Miner-IIs at 5M and thinking "that's cheap" - not sure what price they started at. What are they now? 100k? 50k?

Well I guess I should have expected the flames.
I have already acknowledged that the price is very high on two occasions, but at the end of the day an item is only worth what people are prepared to pay for it.
Early adopters get a game advantage but pay a premium to do so. This is just business, deal with it.
I am re-evaluating the situation day by day but expect reductions soon. I am also seriously considering BYoC deals and releasing the build list because its a pain in the bum to spend all my game time sourcing parts. Watch this space for news on that front.
Oh and I'd just like to thank my customers who 'have' bought the device this week. All nice people to do business with, and not a troll amongst them (unlike these forums). I hope you're enjoying your new toy.
ok, you can start up the flames again now, i'm done....

Yes most of what you say is very true, except the 10km thing - that's only when you start cloaking your ship, when you're already cloaked you can travel within 1 km of any object. Not that you'll be doing much moving at that speed though :p
Anyway, you're thinking along the wrong lines. The actual combatants aren't supposed to use cloaks, it's the guy scouting the enemy positions who benefit from this module. How many are there, how are they positioned and what exactly are they flying? Sure you can do this half-heartedly with a prototype cloak, but then you'd have to be there (at, say, a gate) before the enemy starts amassing as to not alert them even once to your presence. An enemy fleet who sees a scout ups its alertness manyfold.
I'd sell my left arse cheek for the ability to unbeknowst warp to the enemy fleet and act as an eye in the sky, directing fire precisely where it is needed. Sadly though, my left arse cheek isn't worth 180 mil ISK. It is however worth ca 80 mil, and when his cloaks come down to that price, well that's when I'll be playing EVE standing up.
