Me and some corp mates of mine have recently been gate camping in 0.0 space and have made a pretty good killing, getting about 20 a day between the 4 or 5 of us. But I'd like to know if anyone has any tips or targeting the people who insta jump it, or warp in with fast ships.
I find myself having to keep re-locking until it finally allows to me complete a lock (when someone warps in they are on scanner but when you click them to lock it just locks for half a second then stops and gives you some excuse about your sensors) I find sometimes when someone instas I don't even have a chance to complete a lock whatsoever so you can't slip in a wrecking shot or something to take a frig out.
Also, is there any tips people have for getting around people using instas, (other then smartbombs and mobile warp disruptors which take WAY to long to put up or take down)
Thanks Eldar

yes, this is a great idea; pirates please post all your tips and tricks to gatecamping so we gaterunners can be more effective at whizing all over your tactics and counter them.
honestly on a more serious note, i wouldn't expect any real advice other than what is already common knowledge, and you seem pretty effective so far and gatecamping usually gives you plenty of time to brainstorm and daydream better plans

Yeah, but the BIGGEST problem me and my friends have is constantly having to re-lock someone until it wants to let you complete a lock, making it practically impossible to prepare all your modules to fire as soon as locked.

Fitting a battleship up with loads of L smartbombs would be the key, I think to getting them sneeky insta-jumpers. When you see them come out of warp start up your bombs, and you will be the very proud owner of some biomass in short order.

Well you have that 10 second no lock rule when someone undocks or jumps into a system I think, but I think the reason you can't lock them when they warp to your gate, and click several times is because they havent finished their warp yet, I find the same thing.
The only way to stop the insta jumpers is to set up the mobile warp disrupters every where, a well placed one should stop everything, but they are buggy as hell at the moment.

Enabe show velocity on the scanner, when the ship that warps in approaches his cruising speed, lock from the scanner.
Quit clicking on them square things on the screen =]

As waagaa says getting them jumping in is the best way not when they are jumping out.

seriously gate camping is so dead ... with the release of the POSs it is almost impossible to get anything good from camping a gate.
This is what i mean ... you mine the good ore say 3 or 4 jumps away from the refinery ... the indies take ore to the refinery ... after you get enough ore for say 25k mega and 50k zydrine you load it into your BS that has fitted 2 MWDs and at least 4 WCS. Then using your insta jumps you proceed past the gate campers.
the only real way to get a insta jumping ship is with a MWD positioned approximately 60 to 80 km from the gate. now any big time miner worth his weight in mega has a spy alt in the popular pirate blocade spots.
the problem with gate campers is that you have to stay near empire (example: p3e, a2-, ecp ... etc). since you need to be able to run for the protection of empire when someone with a small laser mounted on their ship starts firing at you.
my advice to you if you really want to pirate is to go to a mining op and hold up a ship.
and for all you people out there bashing people for using insta jumps ... i say this: you can not have reward without risk. and that's the problem with gate campers ... there is no risk involved. you only attack ships that cant fight back and usually have overwhelming odds for someone that will fight back. and you flee to the safety of empire if a force that is able to combat you shows up. which btw makes you leave the highly overpriced MWD abandoned for the routing force to destroy.
anyway, i have much respect for pirates that actually pirate. I think they are needed for the economy. what i dont respect is the carebear pirates that only fight noncombatant ships and then go off on "carebears" that dont like to fight seeing as they are in the same boat because when faced with a equal and even lesser combatant force i have seen many "pirates" turn tail and run like cowards. To me that is a carebear. Director, Divine Retribution

i think its kind of funny that your corp members with cruisers run from my frig, and we dont leave when forces come we fight them, anyways, gate camping is really the best way to make money since most of the people you try to ransom try to run anyways, they never leard, camping gates in empire space is where its at ----------------------
