Hello!
Is there anyone else out there being anoyed off the clone upgrade feature? You might forget on it to upgrade it and loose all your long earned SP. If you get podded, loose your clone and get once more podded you loose all you got. Whats the reason for this? Lets remove the clone upgrade and give us an unlocked clone from beginning is what i say.
Anyone feels the same?
Greetings, Peacekeeper

I came in here expecting a suggestion to turn off clone upgrades and leave us with the 800k clone only.
What a disappointment.

Edited by: Peacekeeper Aurora on 06/01/2009 20:12:06 Why does it encourages to PVP? Clones are freakin cheap even for my 45 million SP one. Its just nagging and you always have to pay peanuts. At least you should get a window to buy a new one immediately after dead. Even though i still think this feature sucks. No MMORPG game uses a game feature like this. You would still loose your ship (maybe worth 400 millions) so i expect thats more motivation to NOT pvp instead of a 1 million clone.

If they are so cheap then why dont you just buy the biggest clone you can get instead of upgrading all the time, problem solved!

Edited by: Peacekeeper Aurora on 06/01/2009 20:21:13 As far as i know you always have to buy a new one after you get podded. Because the new clone will start at 800 SP (or what so ever) if you get podded again without buying a new one. So you always have the chance to loose your whole EVE carrier in a single hour.

Also since no one said it yet, you don't lose all, or even most, of your SP when you get podded with a bad clone. In fact at worst you probably won' lose more than a few weeks of training time IIRC.

I've never had a problem with clones being loose. I keep them all in check.

The clone upgrade feature is there to weed out the incompetent players, such as yourself.

Feature doesn't really make sense or serve a purpose anymore, with one single exception.
Low SP clones are dirt cheap; anyone can afford them. By the time you need a high SP clone, you can easily make the money needed or bum it off someone else who can.
The only time it ever really comes into play is when you do something really stupid like get stranded deep in hostile space with no current clone and no med facilities.
It's basically just a formality; just one more button in the interface, that says "press me every so often or you're screwed". At least they finally fixed it so you can't buy a sub-par clone upgrade anymore.. I swear, the EVE GUI has some of the most illegible fonts and numbers in any game I've ever played.

It's just bad UI design, there should be a one-click solution to both "set clone to this station" and "upgrade clone" with no annoying popups such as "territorial dispute" or choosing clone level, just pick up the next one and only notify me if I don't have enough isk to pay for it dammit.
- Make something blink if I need to update clone. - Give option to auto-update clone so it happens as soon as I wake up in station

It's fine as is. The one change I would make is have an automatic mail sent when you surpass your clone's limit.

It is stupid to not have it automatically upgrade to at least your minimum skill points.(i'm fine with it automatically deducting the cost of the clone upgrade). However, the first time I forget and loose a single skill point, I'll cancel all my accounts. There are plenty of "risky" things in the game. Taking away my "REAL TIME" training shouldn't be one of them....I'd settle for the option of "buying back" any lost skill points, taking them away and no option of getting them back short of re training them with real life time....mine is worth more than that.

It's not that harsh, you lose only a small part of lp, not everything. It's not like that you will be left with 800k sp after podded several times without having bought a clone, so don't panic.

In addition to all of the above arguments - removing the need to replace your clone removes a significant portion of outpost takeover fights, which is to say disabling the cloning facility and forcing your opponent to either eat SP loss regularly or move their clone and travel to the battleground. ----------------

Just for completeness sake - you lose 5% of the SP not covered by your current clone off the highest SP level skill you have, to a max of 50%.
So, even if you have millions of SP not covered by a clone, the most you lose is half a rank on one skill. It hurts, sure, but hardly something that can't be recovered from - and damned easy to avoid happening in the first place. ----------------
