Originally by: Qordel Edited by: Qordel on 07/01/2009 10:55:53 Why would hot chicks play EVE? If they were hot, they wouldn't be wasting their time playing eve. They'd be out doing stuff and getting stuff. Same goes for hot dudes.
The only exception is WOW, which is almsot so universal now that it doesn't count. I know multiple suicide girls (including an ex girlfriend) and a couple Deviant Nation girls (including an ex girlfriend) who all are quite addicted to WOW - but would not be caught dead playing any other type of game anywhere under any circumstances... except maybe The Sims.
I don't mean this as any offense to the women who do play eve. I think we can all just admit that it is essentially the flat out truth. If you were a smoking hot babe, you'd be out partying with your hot rich friends. If I were a hot stud, I'd be out doing the same and getting laid by your hot friends. But none of us are, so we're here playing internet space ship pew pew. And that's just fine.
I'm a hot female gamer. I play EVE because I enjoy it, I found the game via space.com, thought it looked interesting and got addicted. If you don't believe me you can ask my corp or alliance mates who have seen pics, or I could just link you to the pics for a donation of isk. :) After all I am a college student and can't spend too much time on here mining. I have proof that I am what I say I am but I am not going to go out of my way to prove it to you without some sort of compensation since I don't really care wether you believe me or not. However, I can provide the proof given compensation ;) All the males in my corp and alliance seem to enjoy the proof
Not only do I play EVE, but I also play on the Xbox360, PS2, other computer games and PSP. I enjoy the Xbox 360 the most, gears of war, mass effect and oblivion would be my top games. However, games are not my life, I frequently take breaks from gaming since I do have rent to pay and etc..
Maybe EVE will be at Dragoncon this year and you all can see me there. However I do have pics of me last time I went to Dragoncon, pictures of me with the Stargate SG1 and Atlantis crew and even R2D2
Pay up boys!

Edited by: Qordel on 11/01/2009 02:31:46 I think the best part of the above post was the sequence of my response:
First, "Holy ****, Chris Judge!" Then, sometime later, "Wait, there's a cute girl, too".
Reminds me of the time I accidentally left my girlfriend stranded because I was pre-occupied with the chance to meet Bruce Campbell. But really, who could blame me for that? Anyone else would have done the same...
And please tell me that hairband was yours and you made Judge wear it... |

btw, you stand corrected about hott girls playing EVE, when I got to meet Chris Judge, he looked up at me and said "oh my god, well aren't you a hott ****er" kind of rude in a flattering sort of way. but then again my top is a corset backed victorias secret little number, my costume was a cowgirls outfit, however i did take the hat off for the pics |

Maybe I'm just in the "Classy" alliance and my experience is not the rule, but I've found EvE players to be far MORE mature than most of the other online games I've played.
I have to agree with you. I'm a woman playing eve and tbh, other than the "is that a girl?" comment followed by a 5 seconds silence I got a few times on TS/vent in the past 3 years, I never felt any disrespect from my corp/alliance mates. |

When I got on teamspeak in my alliance and spoke, I got the silence, followed by one of the alliance leaders who shall go un-named, telling me to get my 12 year old little boy butt out of there in not so nice of words... I had the pleasure of correcting him and being backed up by a few of my corpmates who had heard me on TS before. |

I don't stand corrected. I made a generalization and a handful of exceptions in no way render that generalization inaccurate. And as I mentioned, it also goes for us guys, to a degree.
Quote: when I got to meet Chris Judge, he looked up at me and said "oh my god, well aren't you a hott ****er" kind of rude in a flattering sort of way.
Right, because he is used to doing a lot of sci-fi conventions with a low ratio of really attractive people in attendence (which is not to say none of them at all).
Quote: the hairband was his and he had it on because the day before he had something done to one of his eyes, he was wearing sunglasses indoors, i think he had to have it to keep his hair out of his eyes.
Bet he had lasik surgery. The hairband would be more epic if it had ponies or hearts on it, though. :D |

The surprised response further supports my statistical claim. But it's refreshing to know that people do treat each other better in EVE. While I have witnessed a few exceptions in other games, the reaction is usually far more juvenile and a complete game destroyer (again, pre-pubescent idiots being distracted by something a thousand miles away on voice chat that purports to have female parts and all).
In general, that's one of the things I find most compelling about EVE. Setting aside all mechanics, the level of discourse and interaction among the players is a real draw. It's one of the few gaming experience (that wasn't in person) where I thought I could quite easily look forward to having a beer with a bunch of the other players.
There are rare exceptions in chat on EVE - but they're minor and usually (thankfully) not tolerated. As far as the homophobic, racist, etc stuff at least.
Of course, these numbers WILL continue to change in the next decade. The general population is still being introduced to gaming. Just like technology is no longer the domain of the pocket protector and you can trust that not every person you meet online is the most hideous creature ever (like you could assume a decade ago), the growth of gaming among women (who are slowly catching up to men) will eventually mean that there is no distinction between people who play games and those who don't. When an eventually 90% of the entire male and female population both play games, it'll all be moot.
I'm sure the demographics with regard to what games are preferred among them may remain different, but they'll still be gaming. :) |

Quote: didn't sound like a generalization to me, but ok... it doesn't matter, now you know there are some hott girls who do play
Already knew that, but with perhaps 15,000 to 30,000 playing EVE, these are rare exceptions. And since I was addressing a large group of people, I didn't initially think I needed to clarify that I was generalizing. If you're speaking about a large collective, you can't possibly be aiming your comments at individual deviations. And for the record, the same goes for us guys. Most of us are ugly or just passable. The only difference is that there's also about ten times as many of us (for now).
Anyway, I finally caved in -- pressured by the quasi-gf -- and posted a pic in the Dude's thread. If it makes you feel better, you can go ridicule it! -- What's your EVE New Year's Resolution for 2009? |

Well, if you play GoW then you don't need to be told how horrifying the experience can be if you're a female on there. I suspect there are a lot more girls playing those games than we'll ever know, because they don't want to deal with the majority of a-holes and their comments that will start all over again each time they play with a new group of people.
And for the record, I'm going to try Hello Kitty MMO for a few days and I have no shame in admitting that. And if I did, I'd just blame it on the girl anyway and say she made me do it. -- What's your EVE New Year's Resolution for 2009? |
