First of all, you'll find no whining here. I have only positive things to say about Eve Online upon my departure.
Still here? Cool.
I've always found it strange that so many pod pilots feel compelled to deliver lengthy farewell speeches and/or air all of their grievances upon deciding to vacate New Eden permanently. Now that I'm in this position myself, the reasons are a bit clearer. Eve is what you make of it; it's a subjective experience in ways that most MMOs can only dream of. So I suppose it's natural that everyone wants to have their perspective heard one last time before clicking the biomass processor and sending millions of skillpoints screaming into the abyss.
Make no mistake. I still love Eve. But I am beginning to realize that I love Eve more in theory than in practice. I love what the game represents. I love what players are able to achieve within its grand interstellar sandbox. But over time my gaming habits have become less compatible with the game's best qualities. The way I've always tried to play Eve is a bit like trying to be married on Tuesdays and single the rest of the week; I mean, I guess it's theoretically possible to play casually, but it takes a lot of the fun out of it, at least for me.
From my early noobish days of flying a Catalyst around Sinq Laison with small beam lasers fitted (ZOMG no ammo!1!) to my brief career escorting mining ops in my Brutix; from slapping eight smartbombs on a Nanophoon and crashing lowsec gatecamps to being doomsdayed twice by the same Goon titan during a Noob Mercs op (0mega still owes me a Rifter), I'll always have great war stories to tell my friends whenever they get the idea that a 40-man raid in WoW is somehow impressive (capital blobs in SV5 say hi).
But now I just don't have enough free time to get the most out of the game. I had an absolute blast when I was able to play for 4-5 hours at a time, joining fleets, jumping on TS and lending pathetic cruise DPS to nanogangs because I was in a Raven and couldn't be arsed to refit. These days, I have far-reaching ambitions out here in meatspace, and the occasional half-hour ordeal of "log in, spin ship, hope for gang, log out because UnrealEd finished cooking" is more depressing than enjoyable. My lifestyle just doesn't mesh with Eve anymore, and if I can't spend half a day roaming Providence with a gang of drunken Eastern European madmen (PXF FTW), then I'll play something else instead.
My profound thanks go to the members of Kryomek Industries, Noob Mercs, The Sobani and Aurora Acclivitous, all of whom were excellent pilots and an absolute pleasure to fly with. Special mention goes to Comnena (who gave me my first destroyer back in 2005), Murphius (who recruited me into his wonderful corp by besting me in a duel), my fleetmates in Paxton's Prov defense gangs (whose running commentary was never anything short of entertaining) and all the members of Goonswarm who came out and met PHAIL's Epic Frigate Gang in full force for a hilarious fight whose local chatter I will probably take to the grave (FOR PONY!).
And no, you can't have my stuff, because I've already sold everything and donated the proceeds - a total of 2.48b ISK - to Chribba, because he's an awesome dude and I know he'll put it to good use.

Lord Regulus I wish you the best of luck with your future adventures. And I am honored to be thought of for your departure gift (altho I have yet to receive it, did it get lost on the way? ).
Hope to see you back in New Eden at some point, fly/walk/drive safe! |

Props to the OP.
I have to admit that I'm currently at the bottom of my deepest low with the game. Like the OP I don't blame Eve. I think it's a combination of me getting old, friends moving into areas of the game I don't like (PvP), others leaving and work becoming very busy for a while.
I'm hoping that the March expansion will rekindle my interest. It's well timed because I'll have been in the game 5 years come February. My second account is due for subscription renewal in March as well.
If it doesn't work out then I don't know. I always said I'd keep paying just to keep training but I won't do that for two accounts.
It's been a great ride for me and I hope I'll still be playing this time next year but I don't know. I suspect it hinges on Ambulation (which I know isn't coming in March). Not because I'm dying to walk around parading my fashion sense but because it will be a change.
All I can hope for now is that T3 and the Mission changes tide me over until later in the year. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

My thanks to you all for your banter and well-wishes.
With any luck I'll re-roll in a few years when CCP lets us land on planets.
