Hi'yall!
I'm not sure why I haven't suggested this before being a long time IRC-user (e-peen: non-stop since 1993);
Text highlighting, preferably configurable.
Being able to activate highlighting when your nick is in a line of text would be awesome. Tbh, I've missed it from the start but never really been a forum dweller in combination with being lazy.
If there also were some option for this, like text highlight color and (extra) words to trigger highlighting EVE would actually remotely start being as modern as IRC!  ... and ever MOAR awesome than just nick highlighting.
If needed/wanted I can do a settings and/or chat window mockup, but I guess an actual designer UI-person are 1000x better than me on visualizing this ;)
(Didn't find this in the 10k small things or any of the other linked threads, sry if this is a repost)

well, not really.
But let's say yes, but in reverse. If someone types either your nick or one of your highlight configurable words that whole sentence/line/text block gets highlighted in a configurable color.

If you for example are stuck in +10 Channels wich alot of people are in this game, a highlight function is crucial unless you want to be stuck browsing thru channels all the time. |

I totally love this idea.
The number of times I've gone afk for 30 minutes (to eat / cook / work) and come back to a chat window that's a mile long which I have to skim read in case someone tried to talk to me is enormous. Being able to highlight text with my name (or truncated versions of my name) would be truly awesome.
Making it configurable so I can also add in keywords for topics I'm interested in would also be amazing.
Not often I read a genuinely good idea on here. Good on ya. |

Don't think there is any nead to discuss why this is wanted, its just a plain improvement in the user interaction field, and shuld be strived for... as long as it don't deviate from the EVE setting to far (pink glowing text with puppies dancing around it)

Indeed this.. and as many IRC features possible..
I would really like tab through nicknames with autocomplete like in irc..
Those that dont know what I mean.
If you start writing any characters name, say Bumse here, you would simply writ bu, and then tab through all current users with that in the begining of the name..
It would also be nice with a visual aid to show moderators/operators in channels..

might possibly be more awesome if you had a "highlights" meta-channel that would just have all the highlighted stuff in it.
winsauce icing: add links to the collectet lines in the highlights window that open the corresponding chat tab scrolled to when a line was uttered, so you can easily read the context. |

The hilighting you guys implemented in 1.3 has no visibility what so ever if you're running on text-only mode, which to speak frankly is a MUST in intel channels ... or otherwise busy ones. Portrait needs to be visible in left pane in order to get some hilighting effect at all.
Nice first steps but lets get intel and chat some Usain Bolt legs :)

I don't understand why this kind of change would take so long to implement. This is a very useful feature in IRC chat, i can think many reasons where this feature would be embraced. ie flagging FC, flagging of war targets using intel channel, knowing when people are asking for your attention, etc.

This was brought up on a few occasions at fanfest with devs and among them at the scandinavian round table where both CCP Soundwave and Seagull attended.
There were no objections at all from CCP, they even thought it was a good idea but there are no plans to implement it in the near future, mainly due to how the chat mechanics works and that it wouldn't be a good idea performance wise (wat?).
So, let's get more attention to this thread to make it happen! Share amongst your corps, alliances or what have you! :)

IT's GENIUS! +1 from me, even though I'm maybe in the minority for not having 10+ chat windows to deal with it would help.
And nearly no negative comments (apart form people who have CLEARLY played WoW).

I'm asking this a serious question btw, but what is the reason we cant have a proper implementation of a chat system, that can exist like IRC, so that even third parties can make a program like mIRC? Players could have all the power they want in making filters, capturing systems that grab information from Intel channels and stick them in charts, etc etc.
People already do many thing with outside programs, so why not try and keep as much as possible in-game?
I suddenly woke up thinking I had a nightmare, then remembered I can't even fly Amarr Battleships.

Indeed. That's a suggestion I posted several years ago as a petition but was shutdown both swiftly and fast.
It would be an AWESOME addon/service ... just being able to keep tabs on whats happening ingame when at work or while traveling etc.
But, I guess one would have to create a new thread since it differs quite a lot from this, from my viewpoint, smaller initial step :)

This highlighting is a fantastic idea.
I also like the concept of being able to listen in and chat while outside the game client.
We should be able to do that with all channels, since chat content does not rely on being logged in to have value.
Imagine the noob help chats where offline players can give hints and tips from their IM client or cell phone IM.
Corp CEO or alliance directors who are always logged in and can monitor official channels.
System chat where players who are logged off can relay details about mining and ratting concerns, or warn about hostile threats.
Intel channels where players can report details to each other and communicate information about battle plans.
Many already use jabber or other offline chats to duplicate this, I believe we should level the playing field and make it available as a game feature, and connect us to each other more effectively.

Fine. As long as there is a ten minute timer for being docked in a station. Also, you can't stop moving in the game. Just add in a way so every ten minutes you are randomly warped to the nearest other player. Keeps people from going AFK. |
