A quote from a post taken from IRC blah blah blah blah...
Quote: (15:58:59) (+Maarud) when is the T3 stuff gonna be around for testing? (15:59:18) (&Oneiromancer) Not earlier than mid-February (15:59:31) (&Oneiromancer) Art is hard at work on the models
Isn't that cutting it a bit close?
I speculated a long time ago that 'surely they have all the art done for all the assets' if they're going to hit their M10 deadline.
If the above quote is true, those art guys must be freaking out right about now pulling 80-100 hour weeks if it's still not done at this point and they're the ones that CCP is waiting on before they release the patch to SISI...

80 hr work weeks used to make me sick, and it was the kind of work that could get you killed if your not paying attention either.

I think mid-February is actually kinda optimistic. I'm not expecting to see Apocrypha on SiSi until March. |

With the track record being what it is, probably this.
Massive gameplay additions/changes + nowhere near enough time to test them == recipe for win, apparently. |

I imagine they already have the shelf commitment for the boxed version though, so something will come out March 10. |

I'm not saying it won't. I'm just shocked that they don't oh, I don't know, don't even have the art done by now for a release that is due in less than eight weeks. |

It's not that surprising considering they are using Scrum software development. |

How so? Cutting it this close doesn't really leave a lot of room for mistakes.

Sure it does. You put a box on the shelf and have a patch waiting to download that day. The CDs / DVDs are probably already being stamped and packaged. If not, they will be soon. The client on that disc will not be the client that gets downloaded on the 10th of March, but it will be very close and a small patch to bring it up to date will be waiting for anyone that buys the box. That's usually the process for a boxed launch like that, well, roughly. |

I'm not talking about the retail pressing of the game. I'm talking about being able to deliver it *at all* on M10.

If it's just the art that is taking time, that is great! The game code is where the bugs would reside. They have/are testing with ****ty models probably already. Even if the art isn't 100% up to where they would like it, it can still be released in a reasonable fashion and upgraded easily without changing gameplay.
Also, art would be left to last until they are sure how many ship pieces there will be, where the ship pieces will connect etc. And that can be influenced by balancing etc.
Art is last, and it makes sense to do so. I think that mid feb is plenty of time, they can always dump the models in at the last minute without recompilation of the code and a very quick test to see that they actually load. |

I can't really remember the last time an expansion wasn't on schedule. That's not to say that certain features from expansions have always been on schedule, but the expansions themselves have stuck to schedule for quite a while now.
And this time, CCP doesn't really have a choice. The retail re-release of EVE will have the new expansion on its DVD. CCP has to have the new expansion ready before the re-release ships, and the re-release is coming sometime this March. |

My memory isn't what it used to be... Was CCP ever late at releasing extensions? I'm not talking about Sisi mind you, but the actual releases. |

The last few expansions have been on time or as near as damn it. However many items scheduled for deployment in a given release never seem to make it. I figfure this is what will happen in March.
Eye candy aplenty will be released but not everything promised will be ready, it never is.
For this release and the pre-marketing hype I will be more worried about how the server(s) hold up with the expected influx of 1000's of new players. |

It's not so fatal if the textures are a bit bonkers, but if the modules don't work as they should :) Las time I checked the texture didn't so squat to statistics :)
Also remember that there is no way the graphical designers work on code. That would be like...chaos :D |

Actually i believe it's the game designers(or designers in general) who change the values on the items.
Looks=graphics. Work at all=code. Work as intended=design.
If they have coders balancing items, well, that's rather molyneux of them |

Well they seem to have studied at his school for overhyping content. Anticipating T3 to be EVEs That Dog & the new map the bread crumb trail.

Actually if ambulation hits this year, EVE will become the "biggest expansion ever in one year" MMO out there.
"4000" "new" ships, and from one genre(spaceflight) to another(walking) is quite a feat and as such, should be used in PR.
