I've encountered a mission that I think may show a slight problem with the mission structuring in this game.
My newly rolled miner had just completed "Making mountains.." and relocated to a Quafe factory in the starting area. As the charcter is only 1 whole day old and had recieved a burster from the newbie missions I decided to forgo mining while I trained skills and could get a hauler.
Seeing the Quafe agent was a level 1 quality -19 I decided to do some missions. The first 3 were hauling and ratting, the fourth mission was to rescue slaves.
Aha, I've done this mission type before, thought I, and took the mission. When I got to the location there were lots of frigates, which I destroyed by flying away from and using a single long range weapon. Then it was time to rescue the slaves.
Except rather than the Bestower ships I had fought previously in these mission types I had a cruiser to fight.
My 4th agent mission had me against a cruiser when I was one whole day old and in a Burster.
I could get as close as 15km before my shields were destroyed, and then had to flee. I tried some other tactics, but eventually I gave up, docked and logged while I learned Eidetic memory.
I suppose I could have gone and learnt ecm, but I'm happy to pursue my learning and then start up on Starship command so I can start mining in a ship with cargo capacity, and then learn combat skills.
My point, however, is this; as amusing as it was to find a cruiser sitting there, and that has not happened with my alts, has anyone else had experiences like this? Should CCP examine their mission creation and allocating system?
What are your thoughts? |

I have a char in one of the noob corps and it's common to have a day old up to 2 weeks old get nailed with an L1 that you simply can't solo. Usually they involve a ship with pointless armor or shield rep. The last one I helped in involved the new guy in whatever he was in and me in a daredevil unloading around 300 light missles.
The point in it all? Time Sink. |

Yeah, eve missions really really suck. Not rewarding enough to do in groups, but sometimes to difficult to do solo. Really need to find friends that are willing to help you out for free (i.e. join a decent corp should be first priority).

There should really be agents which are sort of level 0.5 for rookies to mission for until they get into their race's top tier frigate. This is a common enough problem that I think taking the easier level 1 missions and separating them from the harder ones would be worthwhile. Also, it would allow the players in decent ships to face actual challenge in level 1 missions consistently instead of getting a single Worlds Collide among many worthless little missions.

Jazerus has a good idea there!
So CCP, could you implement the idea? I think it would help reduce the games new player turnover, increase the games revenus and make the game more fun.
Thinking about it, you may also want to install agents that hand out fleet only missions. However, not to waste time and resources, perhaps fleet only missions should be located at trade hubs.
Oh, and a little more description might be useful. If you ask an agent for a level 1 mission and the description says someting like "A cruiser is being escorted by two squadrons of frigates, you need to liberate the slaves from the cruiser."; and you only have a low level frigate, the player then has a much better time calculating their mission chances and either accepting or declining the mission.

I hope they implement my mission builder some day, then the new players would really be connected to the game
But, as a related story, short one at that;
When i was two days old, still flying in my rookie ship i loved so dear(and own still i believe), i got a courier mission that took me to 0.0 from a level 1 agent. This was way back when, but it was fun as haooye

I think they need to spread out mission levels more. |

It's actually easier today than it used to be. When I started off we had less SP than people got now, and I remember one of the missions I got when I as 3-4 months (!) old was impossible to solo. Me and my brother was running missions same time so we helped eachother whenever we'd get this particular mission.
One thing that makes EVE stand out in the MMO-games of today is that there's simply missions that you can't solo. And in PvP there's no WoW-like battlegrounds where the basic idea is to have a fairly equal amount of players that face eachother.
EVE is hard, supposed to be hard, and that includes missions, trading, industrialism etc. You can't do everything from day one, and everything gets alot easier in a group.
It makes perfect sense to have it that way. Yah, it probably kills interest for some casual/lone players, but a change in this concept would be false advertisement. |

Perhaps people just starting in the game need to do some networking? You know, make friends, ask for help, that kind of thing.

Missions could see a lot of improvement across the board. They simply aren't particularly fun; missions are just a means to an end.
I'd love to see massive changes and additions to the entire PVE aspect of EVE. Plenty of room for them. |
