Where do people keep coming up with these $1500 pc and laptops? A quick browse of newegg found at least 20 laptops of all kinds from $400 to $600 that would simply cream any eve client version regardless of shader model and sm4 dx10 pc video upgrade cards for a wide variety of bus types like agp, x16, 2.0 x16 for well under $25. Hell even a brand new gaming pc with all new parts that will totally pwn Crysis is around $500 if you stick to current/last years hardware and don't go overboard on all the spanking brand new tech that costs $350 per part but only give a 5% increase in performance over last years now heavily discounted 'new' tech. |

Well considering that sm3 is a years old tech and ccp are still using it as the prime shader for its top of the line premium client means that you never will have to upgrade 'every 2 years'. About the only people people who are going to be forced to upgrade are the ones with the truely dinasaur sm1 graphics and tbh you should thank ccp for stretching out your piece of junks lifespan.

Look at it this way. You will have a whole year to put back money on a new laptop that realisticly should cost your around $400~500 that will totaly own your old laptop and should last you for at least an additional 5 years if not alot longer. Thats only ten dollars a week you need to save and who can't nicker a measly $10 a week off of their exspenses. Also if you say that you really can't afford to put back $10 a week then you have some serious financial issues that need to be dealt with that far overshadow your future abilty to play eve. |

Originally by: Dr Sheepbringer Also the point is that it works now, but in future it won't and you need to spend at least 400-500$ and that's far from being a good runner for it. Basically you paying 500$ for crappy performance just to be able to play a game that works now.
Not true. I was out shopping and on a lark decided to look at some laptops for cheap mobile internet connectivity and every one with the newer intel 4500 graphics chips ran eve premium just dandy with no issues. All of the ones I looked at also never topped $550 after tax. Plus after this big push ccp has done to modernize the eve client I doubt they will be undertaking another leap for years to come that will outdate anything you buy now that has at least sm3 support though all the brand new laptops seeem to offer dx10 and sm4 as standard now.

I don't think its so much the 'bawww over everything' as the 'omg someone(ccp) has told me to upgrade my pre 2000 aging piece of shiat laptop/pc that can barely run eve classic and furry pron at the same time or gtfo of eve' and we all know what type of threads those type of people make.

See that the thing about progress and change. There is always an annoyed hermit who refuses to acknowledge lights and running water in every group. Besides if ccp was invalidating current hardware I might see your point but the fact is they are requirering users to drop a 10 year old graphics standard for a 5 year old graphics standard. Yes sm3 was current when eve was just sm1. I can't imagine in any situation past that annoyed hermit where a significant part of the playerbase is still stuck on sm1 level hardware. |

I'm not a technophile as I thoughly research my future needs when purchasing hardware and not just go buy the lastest overpriced gear every year for a miniscule performance gain. My 2 year 'old' pc will easily last me anouther 4 years because I made sure the tech was current enought to last but not so current as to fall under the lulz overpriced brand spanking new item that will be 1/4 of the original price but still within 5% of next years top performers. You are getting caught out on your laptop and yeah it sucks but really just put back the money so if ccp decides to axe sm2 off the lite client you will be prepared and if not then wow there is a nice little pile of money to go buy something else shiney with or maybe your christmas bills or some school training for a better job.

Indeed. Be thankful that ccp is giving you a whole year to save up for something you might not need as the sm2 cut is currently an option they are thingking about not a certainty. |

Well if you have good credit then take out a small personal loan from your bank then they can take the $10 a week out of your account as your use your shiney new laptop instead of saving for it then buying. Personal loans always have a decent interest rate so you won't won't get ****d on all the extra fees that seem to pop up with having the seller give you a credit line. Plus banks won't play catchup games with you that ruin your credit if you try to skip on payments so you won't have a chance to stray. Bonus goodness is that you can wait till ccp makes its descision one way or another so if they keep sm2 support you won't have needed to put any money back.

Hey Rufus. Here is something you can do in your spare time till ccp nerfs sm2. Its a hack to get sm3 support for certain ati cards of which your 9800 is one.
