Edited by: Seleene on 27/07/2004 13:28:20 Okay, this has happened enough now to warrant a bit of concern. In the past week or so, I've been flying around and when I go to dock (and once or twice as I jumped through a gate), my entire computer reboots! Hello?! This only happens when I play EVE. It's happened when EVE was the only program I was running as well.
Has anyone else had this happen to them? I'm using a P4 2.6, 1GB RAM & Radeon 9800 Pro if that matters. -

Crash-to-reboot was a pretty common problem in late beta, but I haven't seen it in a long time. You might want to submitting a bug report.
Good luck.

I thought it was just me!
My PC has been BSOD'ing quite often too, and it only happens when I play EVE. I have a suspicion that my PC might be overheating; but tbh, I've no idea what the cause might really be.
I use a P4 either 2.4GHz with 1GB core, NVidia GeForce4 Ti4200 running Windows XP Pro SP1.
WTB EVE Online that runs on Linux.

I think you are right!! I have an ATi 9700 which has heating issues and as soon as i start eve, my system restarts or i'm getting a blank screen. Taking the side panel has helped a bit but i need a new fan. Those Ati run too hot especially in this summer time

Before I submit a bug report, I wanted to make sure it actually was a bug in the game, not my computer. Nothing else causes my computer to reboot, I've got a barely three month old install of Win XP Pro running on it and my CPU stays at a frosty 34-38 while I'm playing so nothing is overheating...
Anyone else having this "hiccup"? -

i had that problem for a long time - after losing a raven i decided to do something about it. I tried everything and solved it by taking out some of the fancy blue neon lights from inside my case. I dont know much about computers but a techie guy said it may have been sucking too much power from the power pack.
maybe you have too many devices in your case?

I bought an AC unit for this reason 2 years ago. Cost me $1000 but I have zero problems during summertime, I just switch it on and it's winter in my room.

Hmmm... so maybe it's the Radeon running hot? Everything else seems to run cool enough, so I'll look into that. -

You could also buy a Thermaltake case, they cost $150 and they have excellent airflow inside besides looking cool.

the reboot is a winXP problem I think, might be related to overheating... in older windows, you somtimes got a blue screen of dead, but in windows xp, they decided to fix this... and as smart as microsoft was, they yust let the computer reboot every time there was normaly a bsod, instead of fixing the problem that caused the bsod... you can turn it of somwhere deep inside your configurations, but even tho it won't reboot you, your eve playing session will still be ruined by the blue screen...
did you try cleaning the dust out of your case btw? that somtimes helps to
currently recruiting euro players. |

My PC is similair to one of those Shuttle cubes. I've got both side panels off at the moment, and an 8 inch fan blowing right through the opened case. It's been setup like this for the past 2-3 days and it seems to help so far. I still get a spontaneous reboot when playing EVE but it's not rebooting as often as it was before.
Shuttle-like PC case = seems like pretty crap cooling, tbh.
Another PC that I play EVE on has had no problems at all; although it's very different, it has masses of cooling.

One of the main reasons for PC crashes is HDD overheating. Maybe check that too. -------------------------------------------- Dead

Edited by: Eyeshadow on 27/07/2004 14:29:22 i think it may be ur radeon. I also have a redeon 9800 pro and the heatsink was so hot u could fry a steak on it. The solution for me was to rip off the old fan (which was fu><0red anyway [cr@p bearings]) and superglue a MUCH bigger fan directly onto the heatsink (anyone thats ever tried prizing a heatsink off a graphics card will know why i did it this way).
I used to get random crashes and strange graphics all the time. Since i replaced the fan its never happened. I would say the heatsink/fan they stuck on the 9800 pro is w@nk and needs replacing

Eve causes CPU's to fry....especialy AMD CPU's. I had this crash problem, hot days were the worst. I ended up nerfing my CPU speed to say 60% and now its stable. If you can monitor the CPU temp...just log onto EVE and watch it rise..
