Well, my case has plenty of airflow and is dust bunny free... I'm going to look at the fan on that video card. It's all I can think of. Thanks for all the input everyone!

Okay, this has happened enough now to warrant a bit of concern. In the past week or so, I've been flying around and when I go to dock (and once or twice as I jumped through a gate), my entire computer reboots! Hello?! This only happens when I play EVE. It's happened when EVE was the only program I was running as well.
Has anyone else had this happen to them? I'm using a P4 2.6, 1GB RAM & Radeon 9800 Pro if that matters.
This is your video card crashing
To be certain of this, go into you vid card options and twiddle with ATI's VPU recover setting.
This will result in the more familiar blue screen of death or general PC lockage.
I havent had this problem with Eve, but i had it loads with Medal of Honour on my 9700 pro.
I solved it back then by disabling fast-write (no noticable effect) and switching from AGP 8x to AGP 4x (also no noticable effect)
See the numerous info on the net regarding why AGP 8x and fast-write is largely pointless atm anyway

Zero problems whatsoever with my AMD. No massively catastrophic temperature fluctuation - EVE doesn't make the processor run any hotter than any other load.
Hot days are the worst? Then it doesn't matter if you use an AMD, Intel, Via, Transmeta, RandomGenericCrapFromChina chip. You need an air conditioner.
I cringe when I hear of people running their shiny new 3 GHz processors during 90+ degree (Fahrenheit) weather in tiny rooms with no air conditioner during the summer. Then I place bets as to how long it will take their CPU to release its magic blue smoke.

I only have a lowly Radeon 7500 (yeah laugh it up) but have a 9800 Pro in the post.
I get total machine freezes too when playing EVE and cannot even move my mouse, Im forced to switch the machine off and reboot.
I beleived it was a heat issue (as did a GM that mailed me) but I have heat monitors on my CPU and some other bits and see no noticeable spikes. I guess it could be the card heating up ?
BUT it seems to do it mostly when I try show info on someone, not always but seems to be a pattern. Then when I finally go to log back into EVE it fails to load my characters. I clean my cache of the portraits and EVE loads fine.
Im not convinced your issue is heat, but then again I know **** about computers.
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

it is worth upgrading cooling on GPUs but the benefits of arctic silver are over stated imo (unless you're one of those over-clocking geeks of course)
edit: i would try my earlier suggestion before you start taking stuff to bits :-) |

then when your comp crashes next you will have the old BSOD [MS remnoved the BSOD and made it reboot indead] - this will tell you what module crashed then you use the web to search for that moduels and error and get the latest drivers for it etc....
